Sorry for the late reply, wish UA-cam would notify me of replies. Stock vs stock the 70 is a great option over the small frame offerings 45,50,51 etc, especially with the aftermarket tuning solutions that are available. Only major issue we’ve found is E hub failure, which is why we have our billet hub for small medium and large frame 8hp

Nice video, I think the trans would be great in a older land cruiser or patrol where a 4 speed is used, the extra ratios would help the under powered petrol motors, you probably could keep the factory diff ratios when changing up to a bigger tyre and depending on diff ratio ect you could maybe have a 1st gear in low range that will just crawl.

Man it makes the cars feel like they have more power as well. The rpm drop on a shift is like 700-800rpm. Definitely helps keep them in the peak power range.
@ZeroTo60Tube any hints on getting it fitted? My r33 finally arrived and I've been restoring it since it's arrived. But I guess I need to figure out which ecu and transmission controller I need to get one to work 😅
Hey! Can you make a video about pairing the Lamik TCU with different ECUs, like Link and ECUmaster? You have covered it shortly with Haltec ECU, but it's a bit too pricey, and most of affordable BMW-platform drift cars are actually controlled by ECUmaster Black, at least in my region. I think it's also important to generally cover the topic of programming in more details to boost skills of the beginners who think that an 8HP swap in way too complex.
Im getting close to doing a 8hp70 or 75 swap in my Ram 2500 Hemi truck. The 66rfe is a junk trans just like its big brother 68rfe. Yeah i could build it like i did a 68rfe a few years ago when i had a cummins but it is almost the same cost wise as doing the swap.
Ok gents thank you for this amazing video! One part of the video cleared up a issue which is "Do I need an ECU with a programmable CANBUS for these boxes?" And with the other controllers available using a haltech it wasn't going to work but as you said in the video the LAMIK replaces the factory controller. This means I can 100% go with haltech with no worry? ;)
My dad and are I doing a modified hellcat redeye in a 70 challenger and the biggest problem with the 8HP90 is the physical size. From measurements we could get online we would have to redo the floor so significantly that the seats would be out on the door sills and there would likely be no backseat or the transmission would have to be mounted below the car considerably. No one seems to think the 8HP75 can reliably take 1000hp (including dodge). I learned a lot from your video and would consider the smaller units in future, lower power swaps.
i second this. the little 5 speed is getting old and with how much i towing i do these days its starting to struggle and a lower RPM at cruse will help a lot with fuel economy.
Would love to find a way to put one of these in my jeep crd. The 5 speed doesnt cut it for me as i do my commuting mostly highways hahah spinning at 2200 rpm at 60mph
Very good video mate, question for you- Do you know if anyone does an adaptor for Ford Cleveland. Considering a 8HP 70 or 75 behind a 351 in an XY if i can get hold of parts needed.
Hi there, Love the videos. Can you please tell me which model BMW I should look for to buy the 8hp from to put into an M2. I want to replace my DCT. Cheers
one thing you didn't say is can it be stand alone or does it need any link to an engine? I've been toying with the idea of putting one behind my 1HZ but its a completely mechanical engine it has no way to talk to a computer.
Its standalone, but it needs certain parameter from the engine in order to know what sort of torque the engine is putting in to the transmission at all times.
Thank you so much for this vid mate! I found you through the 8HP swaps you are doing for the 79 series. But i want one for my FD RX-7 haha A while ago you said your FD was in the works.. is this still the case? Thank you very much :)
Ive been a long time follower of the channel and love the content, i feel like you are defo the go to man for 8HP swaps, you should be a distributer for all swap companies to channel their products through as your way of explaining things is 2nd to none, i feel like you could offer best support for the swap companies and for us, the customers, to guide us through the swap, personally im very interested in the CANTCU as im not after a race application so looking forward to that review, keep doing what your doing, all power to you, cheers, PS do you ship swap kits internationally ? thanks again, cheers for now
Hi Finlay, thanks for the kind words. Great to hear you have been following for a while. Been so much going on off camera lately, i have even had a chance to edit let a lone film, but more frequent videos will be back soon. You'll have to let Ken know you want us to be selling the cantcu, tried to buy one from him a couple of times, but we havent chased it up enough, i guess.
I'm thinking of do a m57 swap with a 8hp in my gu patrol. I feel it would be amazing with the standard bmw shifter just need to find a adapter kit to suit
I was considering a 4l80 swap behind my turbo 1FZ but now I’m intrigued by the 8hp. Any plans to adapt to the 1FZ in the future? I haven’t seen any adaptor kits.
Hey there. Awesome videos. Keep it up. I drive a BMW M3 E46 SMG. Will a ZF HP8 fit in my car? What type HP8. Do I need an adpter plate? Will the stock TCU work or do I need an alternative TCU. The car is bone stock. No looking to make more power.
I have been thinking about something different for my xb coupe with a bigblock 460 stroked to 545 , has the usual c6 box , having an 8hp box in my bmw 650i the idea of having that box behind an oldschool.torque monster is pretty appealing - i gather there are no off the shelf adaptors to a 460 ? 😅
Yeah, i think i will wait to try cantcu until they have thier version of the 8hp maps. xHP just seems like a lot of money for something that is lacking compared to lamik trans tune.
So where I am lost at is which platform can I pull a 8hp70 out of. It seem like it’s cheaper in the states to find one out of a dodge however are they all same spec and dimension wise as the BMW’s I’m looking to put in a E90 with a 2jz swap.
As i mention in the video you need to find out what adapter plates are available for your engine, the adapter plate will determine which trans to go for. However, 2jz will be a 8hp70/75 from a rear wheel drive n57 or b57 powered BMW.
When are you free to pop up on a Saturday....... also im hoping for a decent upgrade on the software in the next 2-3 weeks. Yours is all current apart from the clutch pedal control and clutched launch control which was the main thing on the latest update.
You guys done any LS VE commodores with larger cam profiles? Was pretty hesitant to upgrade to the typical T400 auto Bogan pack, this looks very promising.
www.8speed.au/products/8hp-skyline-gtr-kit The base kit for the GTRs is here. However, we can also supply for extra the pre made drive shafts, so the entire thing is bolt in.
Great video! I really hope to see more vids like this as it anwsered alot of my questions! I cant wait do convert my defender. Soon! 1 question. The standard BMW gear selector. Do you use the standard wiring harness? Or is that harness custom built? Thanks for making these vids, they make swaps more accessible to the avrage grease monkey such as my self
So you use the secondary canbus on the lamik to connect to a factory BMW shfiter. The universal harness we have on 8speed.au allows for that, however you can add it at any point. Its only 5 wires that the lamik needs to communicate with a oem shifter.
thank you for this cool video, ı am thinking to put zf 8hp 45 to my e36 318is so ı want to make sure, can ı use original tcu of zf8 transmission, i m gonna keep engine stock as its my daily, thank you
I'm not one to normally comment. But you have just blown my mind. I've had plans for my buisness but have been stuck on a couple of things. You have just opened everything up. How do I get in touch?
Yes, we actually have the s85 to 8hp adapter on the shelf. My concern is, the 8hp being so refined, may take away some of the s85 experience. I am about to start a series on S85 to DCT. However we have 2 s85 cars in the shop, so the later may get the 8hp.
@@ZeroTo60Tube cool look forward too seeing the episode. yeah love the SMG shifts at full noise but a pain while cruising. should be a huge market in Europe for the conversion and probably cheaper than a OEM replacement including the hydraulics.
Hello everyone. Since this is now at Workshop with some decent ability to fabricate. Would you consider doing a BMW X5 and possibly others. Lift kit spacers. Not complicated to fabricate. With enough demand from BMW owners. Could be good simple product to offer.
Funnily enough we have been talking about it. However making them for less than the ECS or it being worth while for doing it beat the current options is a different matter.
So I wish someone would try that 2013 X3 8HP45 with single PT CAN without a controller, that model is like a hybrid E/F chassis. Then you could have 3 levels. Super cheap swap, medium swap with CANTCU, and then big dog Lamik for the drifters.
Excellent video! I enjoyed the explanations. One thing I have heard about the 8HP transmissions is their RPM limit. If I were to put one behind a high revving K24 what could I expect to be able to rev to? What have you seen others spin these transmissions up to without having issues? Thanks!
@@ZeroTo60Tube Do you know if that was an 8HP70 or 8HP50? I have heard some thoughts that the 50 with the smaller internals may be able to handle higher rpms a bit easier.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Also Thank you for the reply. You guys are putting out the best content on the 8HP stuff out of everyone I can find on youtube! Keep it up and I enjoy every video!
@@UltraMiata Its a 70/75. The reduced friction area on the 50 would mean it wont hold the power and rpms like a 70/75. It will just be easier for the engine to spin it. After playing with both the small and large versions of the 8hps. The 45/50 really make no sense to me. They will not take the abuse of a 70/75 they are not compareable.
really informative video! i was wondering where you guys are sourcing your transmissions from, specifically 8hp70's, ive been calling wreckers across AUS and no one has one from an n57 car, mainly as the number of f seried i6 diesels are allready so low. even a friend of mine who works at a wrecker couldnt source something for me anywhere in vic. any advice or leads would be a huge help as my 6hp is on its way out haha
I havent used one personally, but have spoken with probabaly over 50 customers who have. Not a single good thing to be said from current real customers. Which would be why videos like this exist ua-cam.com/video/bAc2TNQxGaI/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/JknKVMH2gJc/v-deo.html Phil from Driftworks was the confirmation that its a rubbish product. That man has all the money and resource in the world and couldnt make the GCU work.
Great Video. I want to mount a 2012 AUDI HP55 to a 1998 MERCEDES V12 S600, will that Bellhousing work with the V12? What Controller would you recommend to use? What Convertet should I use?
You will need a custom bell housing adapter. I really like the lamiks we have installed quite a few now. Dont over think the converter. It wont matter with a v12.
Ight so gonna need a favor from y’all. I’m tired of my tundra losing to these f150 with the 10spd. Make a kit for the 3ur-fe 😂😂 I’ll boost the truck after
Great video..Will the 8hp70 fit in my 2008 e60 535xi (xi was disabled) ? I understand that the hp70 needs reinforcing bracket. BTW I have a entire m5 rear assembly. Making a beast.🤪
I’ve got a 4.6is and I’ve seen the m62 adaptor kits for the zf8. And they confirmed it could retain AWD. Do you think it’s doable!!? Can’t find any success stories on AWD m62 zf8 swaps, but it seems possible, in theory 🤔😈
Thank you for the video, I'm happy that 8hp adoption is so high. I've been looking into doing 8hp swap into various cars I have. Was going to do a 8hp into my 335d (maybe stock, maybe tuned to stage 1), happy to see that it will work, just needs few tweaks. Would you recommend cantcu vs lamik controller in this case? No race track, no drag, just trying to improve daily driving. Also was pondering a swap into my 98 MB E300 (OM606), and while adapter plates exist for this combination, I'm unsure if the diesel OM606 makes enough power to actually take advantage of it. The M57 in my 335d starts to make 300+ ft/lb torque at only 1400rpm (if I'm reading the map correctly) and goes up to 500+ at 2000 rpm. The OM606 in my old E300 by constrast makes peak torque (240ft/lb) starting at 1600 all the way to 4500 rpm. Would you say that this would be a worthwhile upgrade for a DD vehicle? The old 722.6 is getting sluggish and tired....
Valuable information mate. I have used the HTG before and found is pretty good, turbo lamik isn’t rewritable so what was the reason behind selecting turbo lamic. Have you played with HTG of yes how do you compare these ?
Yeah we have used HTG. The Lamik was much better to work with. Had endless with problems with the HTG back in the day. Lamik is a much more retail ready product. Well more suited to put in to a customers car and not worry about anything.
Awesome infomercial. Disappointed the was no " but wait, there's more". Hahahaha. The progress has been great with these. Wish I had an extra car to try one out on. When are you doing the 8hp in the 4.6is? Are there any after market ecus that can controll the 8hp? FuelTech? Haltech?
OK, this is a left field question. I have an Iveco van with 8HP70 and my shift lever assembly is cosmetically badly worn. Replacements from Iveco are megabucks. Can I fit a BMW one? Will it plug and play? Will I need to rewire the harness? Thanks in advance.
Wow I got many questions 😁 What is fastest trans brake(breake boosted) launch or locked trans/TQ launch? I have zf 6hp28a61 now is it posible to change to 8hp? In the future I'm going for 1000hp. But starting with 700hp 900nm trying to find map for ecu and tcu with tuning tool. I have my12 Bentley CGT my14> use PDK. What is pros and cons for PDK and zf8hp? How much nm can I allow on tcu as max in my current 6hp28a61?
Thanks for the information you've provided kept me busy for the last year and thanks Alex blackham for the screen man works perfectly, on another note I finally got my turbolamik from whifbitz in the uk but a very long wait on the universal wiring loom so I decided to make my own. But upon start up I got code 33 can communication fault. I think i can tune can off if need be but the code 21 is a bit worrying. Pin 71 to pin 10 gear box the wiring is fine but I do have continuity on pin 10 on the transmission and the gearbox casing itself. Maybe anyone who has a zf to hand could see if pin 10 is grounded to the body of the gearbox pin 10 is speed sensor 2. Maybe I trapped the wire to the speed sensor putting it back together or possibly ive messed up with soldering the RYU chip, any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at a standstill, thanks for the videos
@ZeroTo60Tube thanks bud that was going to be my next step hopefully just something silly like that because the only other thing is that I have made contact with soldering the ryu chip that I have potted so new tcm module if that's the case but I suppose it is what it is

This means I can 100% go with haltech with no worry? ;)
If you check out our e46 8hp build series, that car is running a haltech. You do need a Haltech that supports canbus.
Check the Holley swap kits. They have a k-frame and crossmember that is supposed to be able to support the 3rd gen hemi w/o cutting the firewall/floor
Great video and super informative. Really want to put an 8hp70 into my turbo e46 m3. Gotta find someone who makes an adapter kit.
Awesome video I’m thinking of getting this setup too.
I would love to see an adapter for an 1hdfte
i second this. the little 5 speed is getting old and with how much i towing i do these days its starting to struggle and a lower RPM at cruse will help a lot with fuel economy.
Very interesting. I wonder how well this would do in my s13 2jz swap. Would love to have other options other than just the a340e trans.
Would love to find a way to put one of these in my jeep crd. The 5 speed doesnt cut it for me as i do my commuting mostly highways hahah spinning at 2200 rpm at 60mph
I'm sure there are people out there that have done a swap but its not something I have ever done myself, so I'm not the right person to ask.
Very good video mate, question for you- Do you know if anyone does an adaptor for Ford Cleveland. Considering a 8HP 70 or 75 behind a 351 in an XY if i can get hold of parts needed.
great information
I bought one that was slipping through gears, I swapped out the valve body , fluid & filter & it was like new again
Well im glad you got it fixed. Thats awesome.
In terms of torque converters how would the go with n/an applications with big camshafts?
Hi there,
Love the videos.
Can you please tell me which model BMW I should look for to buy the 8hp from to put into an M2.
I want to replace my DCT.
Cheers
N57 8hp70 rwd
one thing you didn't say is can it be stand alone or does it need any link to an engine? I've been toying with the idea of putting one behind my 1HZ but its a completely mechanical engine it has no way to talk to a computer.
Its standalone, but it needs certain parameter from the engine in order to know what sort of torque the engine is putting in to the transmission at all times.
Thank you so much for this vid mate!
I found you through the 8HP swaps you are doing for the 79 series. But i want one for my FD RX-7 haha
A while ago you said your FD was in the works.. is this still the case? Thank you very much :)
Yes, we have had one booked in at the shop for a couple of months now, just havent had a chance to get a start on it yet.
We can help you with that. Both the enging to trans and trans to transfer case.
@ZeroTo60Tube how do we get in contact with you to discuss the adapters i would be interested
@@ryanellevsen1284 if you can send an email to 8speed.au@gmail.com with any questions, we will get back to asap.
I was considering a 4l80 swap behind my turbo 1FZ but now I’m intrigued by the 8hp. Any plans to adapt to the 1FZ in the future? I haven’t seen any adaptor kits.
They are in the works. Should be done by now, but had tonnes of delays with nearly every part of development.
Great information mate but if we r not running crazy hp numbers is it possible to tune the stock 8hp tcu without needing for lamik I have e46 330
Thanks for everything you do by the way 👌
Please use a cantcu for your diesel 1 series daily we would all like to see the difference of install then also a xhp tune on them
Yeah, i think i will wait to try cantcu until they have thier version of the 8hp maps. xHP just seems like a lot of money for something that is lacking compared to lamik trans tune.
We need a follow up on the 135 mate , 5000klm of 8HP driving on track and street with Lamik Controller ... still on first revision of software
When are you free to pop up on a Saturday....... also im hoping for a decent upgrade on the software in the next 2-3 weeks. Yours is all current apart from the clutch pedal control and clutched launch control which was the main thing on the latest update.
soo which one is best for silvia without hacking up the tunnel as much as possilbe ? for sr20 engine . Thanks mate very helpful
You guys done any LS VE commodores with larger cam profiles? Was pretty hesitant to upgrade to the typical T400 auto Bogan pack, this looks very promising.
Brilliant video!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great vid. Anything off the shelf for the R33 GTR, driveshafts, mounts etc (the one you've already done in the shop?)
www.8speed.au/products/8hp-skyline-gtr-kit The base kit for the GTRs is here.
Its only 5 wires that the lamik needs to communicate with a oem shifter.
thank you for this cool video, ı am thinking to put zf 8hp 45 to my e36 318is so ı want to make sure, can ı use original tcu of zf8 transmission, i m gonna keep engine stock as its my daily, thank you
Yes you can use the TCU in the transmisison. But you will need to use an interface like cantcu which i mention in this vid.
@@ZeroTo60Tube thank you very much 😁😁😁
Which one of these trans can be adapted to a 4x4 transfer case, if any. Working on a restomod idea for an older Jeep.
Probabaly go for a jeep version
I’ve been tossing the idea to 8hp75 swap my 2023 Nissan Z 🤓
Can i do the swop on a gtr r35
With enough money you can do anything. However i dont think there is an 8hp that would suit rear mounted transaxle setup with all wheel drive.
I'm not one to normally comment. But you have just blown my mind.
I've had plans for my buisness but have been stuck on a couple of things. You have just opened everything up.
How do I get in touch?
What transfer cases work on the 8hp?
Would love to see some videos roll racing on the track like before with the new set up
One day!
Have you looked at using this box as a replacement for the SMG in a E60 M5? I'm interested.
This in a barra patrol would be awesome
Imagine a transbrake start........
Hey i am dropping a 8hp70 from a dodge into the e92, not finding an option for the trans mount do u know of any solution?
Not that i am aware of.
So I wish someone would try that 2013 X3 8HP45 with single PT CAN without a controller, that model is like a hybrid E/F chassis. Then you could have 3 levels. Super cheap swap, medium swap with CANTCU, and then big dog Lamik for the drifters.
Didn't Andrew try that already?
This is the video I am thinking of:
ua-cam.com/video/Mhx9cP9lNIc/v-deo.html
Wanna swap one into my c32, it’s only 400bhp so the smaller box would be ideal as I just want more gears and a much faster shift.
Any before and after performance comparisons? Drag times or rolls against similar setups but with manual etc?
Generally will pull 0.4-0.5 of a second off the 1/4 time. With out changing engine tune.
Excellent video! I enjoyed the explanations. One thing I have heard about the 8HP transmissions is their RPM limit. If I were to put one behind a high revving K24 what could I expect to be able to rev to? What have you seen others spin these transmissions up to without having issues? Thanks!
HIghest power fitment i know of is a K24 that makes around 850hp. Its revving to 8400rpm.
Any thoughts on htg tcu?
It wont matter with a v12.

thinking of doing anything with the 4th gen 8hp that's coming out soon with the electric motor integrated?
I’m sure it will happen eventually but nothing planned as yet.
Ight so gonna need a favor from y’all. I’m tired of my tundra losing to these f150 with the 10spd. Make a kit for the 3ur-fe 😂😂 I’ll boost the truck after
What's the part number on the torque convertor you use?
Thoughts on Masarati and Land Rover 8hp? same as the Jeep!?
Great video..Will the 8hp70 fit in my 2008 e60 535xi (xi was disabled) ? I understand that the hp70 needs reinforcing bracket. BTW I have a entire m5 rear assembly. Making a beast.🤪
It definitely can fit in. However it will be a bit tricky. You'll need to work out the best way to go. I would investigate a E70 N55 trans.
How do I get a shirt?
You gotta know some special people!
I want to put a 8hp70 into a 98 Mazda b4000/ranger. You know where I can find info on parts
Now this has me wanting an 8hp70 in my turbo E46 build.
Building a vq30det motor. Would the adapter plates from the vq35 bolt up?
I have no idea bout vqs. sorry.
@@ZeroTo60Tube that’s it, 1JZ it is 😂
@@V2.3AST I havent owned a 1jz in the last 20 years.... wow im old. But 2004 i have a 1jz soarer. I have never heard someone regret a 1j swap.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I think I have to try the lamik now, your videos are tempting me to get it everyday haha
Good work 👍
Thanks ✌️
Awesome infomercial. Disappointed the was no " but wait, there's more". Hahahaha. The progress has been great with these. Wish I had an extra car to try one out on. When are you doing the 8hp in the 4.6is? Are there any after market ecus that can controll the 8hp? FuelTech? Haltech?
Check out ECUmaster and Maxxecu - these have inbuilt canbus protocols for controlling the factory TCU
There are no aftermarket ECUs currently controlling the 8hp. However a little birdie told me Maxxecu may be doing it soon.
OK, this is a left field question. I have an Iveco van with 8HP70 and my shift lever assembly is cosmetically badly worn. Replacements from Iveco are megabucks. Can I fit a BMW one? Will it plug and play? Will I need to rewire the harness? Thanks in advance.
Each of the oem manufacturers have their own software on the factory tcu which locks them down to their own shifters.
Can we send the TCU to turbo lamik so they can do the install to have a cleaner n more reliable install?
I dont know what there work load is like. But there are a few people setup to do PCB installations now.
@Zero To 60 thanks that's perfect info
Love the videos with how much information you provide!! What’s the average price in Aus for the n57 8hp70 box?
Normal price seems to be around $4000-$4400 unless the wrecker isnt really sure what he as got.
Hi There, to be sure i would open the box up and pull the mech unit out. Inspect the wiring at the sensor itself
@ZeroTo60Tube thanks bud that was going to be my next step hopefully just something silly like that because the only other thing is that I have made contact with soldering the ryu chip that I have potted so new tcm module if that's the case but I suppose it is what it is
