BMW's have been hit or miss or me over the years. From a golden era of the E36 M3, to a somewhat boring modern era - I've always wondered the tuning potential of nthe F80 platform. Thanks to my buddy Ryan he was kind enough to let me drive his 800HP Single Turbo F80 BMW M3 - which was a real eye opener to the potential of these cars. With a history of tuning the N54, Ryan stepped up his game with a big single turbo, e85, air to water intercooler, and much more. So what's it like driving one of the fastest BMW M3's around? The single turbo is what makes it sound nice. I own one of these but with an equal length exhaust. If I didn't run that setup on mines it would sound horrible. His car with a single midpipe would sound insane. Sounds really nice for it having just a stock exhaust!

I run a single midpipe and catless. Much better! S55 doesnt sound so bad!
@@paulkline1522 You can't run a single mid pipe unless you are single turbo and have a custom midpipe.
E85 is so awesome.
If you had told me a decade ago that someone was running 36psi on a stock motor as a daily driver, I would have told them they were smoking crack.
Why does e85 allow you to run such higher PSI’s?
@@jesusiskingofkings4428e85 has a high octane rating, which means it’s very resistant to detonation. Higher horspower is a result of aggressive timing which e85 can handle. Theoretically you could also make that hp on 93, however the car would detonate before you made that hp. E85 also cools the cylinder in direct injection engines which cools cylinder temperature which prevents hotspots that cause pre detonation. E85 also has an extra oxygen atom which also helps with hp.

@@Twiztid_Metal It's three things... You have to use 30% more E85 then gasoline for the same air-fuel ratio. To be safe under high boost, you run it rich. With the high boost, there's more blow-by so the fuel gets by the piston rings, in to the oil.
All that fuel in your oil is a bad thing. It doesn't lubricate and it causes the oil to break down.
But on the plus side, oil is relatively cheap vs running a forged motor on race gas.
FYI those aren't factory bmw wheels, they are forged apex vs5rs, in brushed silver...pretty common aftermarket wheel on f80 platform. Sick video!

Thats what ive always loved about those m3's. they do daily driver AND canyon carver extremely well. The dual attitude that those cars have is hard to find anywhere else.

Heads up those wheels almost fooled me too. Those are actually Apex EC-7 wheels. Those wheels your allowed to use the OEM center caps for diguiese.
I have the Apex site pulled up and was just going to comment this. Those are actually the Apex VS-5RS wheels though.

Yes, they are the Apex VS-5RS ,which were designed to look the same as the BMW 763M. So cheers to BMW on the design and cheers to Apex for offering a slightly lighter variant with different colors.
There something about the BMW F series that looks so good. Any model regardless if is an M car or not is just sweet. Too bad their design has taken a turn for the worse with their G series chassis.
Looks good, but sadly that's it. G series looks awful, but is a way better experience overall, tho still nothing tops the E's

The G series Mcars have grown on my with auto IDs new front bumper….makes it look really aggressive and fast imo….but the stock grills don’t look to hot but you can change them to some that look like that front bumper
Unpopular opinion I guess I run a single mid pipe on my s55 and I love it not a fan of the equal length sound.
F80 is the most fun modern BMW there is the car feels special every time you hop in I love it have had it for 3 years

I’ve gapped many of GTRs granted there are plenty of cicio GTRs running around making 1200+ but that’s what it takes. FBO e85 GTRs and C800 Cicio cars don’t like me.

You don't need a single turbo to make a S55 sound nice. Like he said with that turbo kit, it got rid of one of the midpipes since its only one turbo. If you have twins, you can get Active Autowerkes equal length midpipes. Get rid of the charcoal filter on the intakes and get rid of the burble tune and you can make any S55 sound good.
Owner here. Definitely still have 2 mid pipes just a single downpipe. You 100 percent need to single turbo these to get them to sound good. I’ve heard many equal length mid pipe cars and they don’t even compare!
@@STM3F80 How does that work? A single downpipe going into 2 midpipes? That doesn't make sense. I know the stock twins have 2 downpipes which connects to the midpipes
@@Unicornpirate the kit is made in mind that many people installing this Turbo kit may have a factory exhaust like my self so it’s a single 3.5 inch downpipe to a Y connecting to the factory or OEM style exhaust. Even if you purchase a VRSF or AA single mid pipe they still have Y connections due to the S55 coming factory Twin turbo. If big boost made a downpipe with out the Y they would be forcing their customers to have a custom exhaust made just to run their kit.
Any idea how to make a European S55 sound good? I'm also an owner of an M4 F82 competition but here in Europe is very, very difficult to make it sound nice (like a single midpipe or equal lenght midpipe) because the police is all over cars now and of course when I bring my car to inspection, they check every inch of the car. By getting rid of the charcoal filter, you mean changing the intake system?
@@Stilo95 Not changing the intake system. There is a charcoal liner inside the stock intake. Take that out and replace the filter with a BMC one and you will get better sounds. All aftermarket intake systems are known to lose power. Even Eventuri.
And since you are in Europe, don't you guys have particulate filters in the exhaust? I guess that's why even with equal length mid pipes it sounds weird. All I know is equal length mid pipes, exhaust, and catted downpipe with a burble tune removal makes the S55 sound great

Awesome video, but got to point out the "not burble tuned" thing, BMW does actually have a burble by default - so any little pops usually aren't just "natural fuelling pops" they are manufactured in by BMW's ecu tune.
Ryan has the same spec as my m4! Loved seeing the build and how similar and different our cars are. Would love to meet up and drive our cars some time.

What turbo kit did you use?
A sleeper is a completely unassuming car thats extremely fast/quick and catches people off-guard. No f80/f82 m3/m4 is a sleeper, its literally a M car which are notoriously known for their great performance out the factory as well as high tuning capabilities with the aftermarket scene. This car is also painted that "Loud" Yas Marina blue color and lowered on aftermarket wheels. The car looks great and its extremely clean and well done with a lot of power but that doesn't make it a sleeper.
This. If it was on stock wheels and painted a common color like gray or white, then maybe it’s a sleeper.
If it doesn’t get mistaken for a rental car it’s totally gonna tip me off regardless. I’ve seen Ford Aerostars that shouldn’t move the way they do lol
@@TheAceKannon a M car could never be called a sleeper if we talking Bmw then something like a high HP/Tq 328i or 330i or something along those lines could be a sleeper no one is expecting a M car to be slow especially not a f80/f82 sure you may not expect it to make 800hp but no M car can be a sleeper. A sleeper has the element of surprise being a normal commuter car or lower model which a M car already lacks from factory being a top end sports cars for Bmw.
I've owned an E36 and E46 M3 and I agree, no one thinks they're sleepers. I think they meant sleeper for an M3. I knew who I could take off the line if we were both stock. Anyway, drag racing an M car is like taking a hooker fishing. Yes it's fun, but that's not why you paid for her.

Yas Marina Blue F80 M3 always lookss fabulous. Same with the M4. Usually I'd imagine them with a black interior. But this lighter interior looks sweet. 😎 And thank goodness for not having a burble tune. Those things annoy me so much rn. Every child with their 200hp cars and burble tunes on the road. 🙄😂

Plenty of work went into this car at this power level. Granted yes on the stock turbos you can “download 200 Hp” but to push this platform past that is not for the faint hearted!

Fair play too him for building this amazing car. What boggles me is how these younger lads afford these sort of builds.
I mean in the UK to buy a decent spec f80 m3 you're looking at £30k+ ( USD $38k) aswell then getting a single turbo kit is another £20k+ ( USD $25k) then also of all the supporting hardware you're looking well into the 60k+ or so...
But yeah just boggles me these guys are able to do this which seems to be with ease. Again fair play too them.

@@STM3F80 that’s what’s up, I knew the s55 can hold that much power if you just reduce back pressure, but everyone says like 700-750whp lol. Turbo lag quite a bit more than the stock twins?
@@MikeyG003 actually the trick is to bring the torque around 700-750 ftlbs it will get full boost around 3600 rpm so it’s not terrible

You need to drive a G80 next in regards to sound for the Fx the best exhaust setup is valvetronic🔥 def drive the G80 next a modded one not stock
S58 def sounds a lot better than the s55 imo. Sounds a lot more exotic. My friends got one with an exhaust tone is def different.

Nice review! But a couple of things to mention. The wheels aren’t stock, those are APEX VS-5RS (I have the same ones hahaha) and very rare to make 800whp on a stock motor s55. He’s pushing the limits of the motor. Otherwise nice build!
Hp isn’t a limit for anything. Torque drives limits. Torque bends rods. With the car being single turbo we have greater tuning capabilities of the torque curve to keep it relatively safe. Car has been making this kinda power for

I saw a twin turbo set up last weekend at a car show, with all Titanium piping and exhaust. Bad ass. But it sounded so Ricy... But He was talking mad shit about having the fastest car there! But there was like 3, 6 second and a few 8 second drag cars on the lot, so I just laughed.. Definity a very nice car but I beat stock ones all the time with my GT though so I don't see why they cost so much..

sleeper is a huge stretch...no f80/f82 bmw can be called "sleeper" or really any M car people know what M car BMWs are car enthusiasts or non car enthusiasts alike...everyone knows they're the top performance model being featured in various movies, participating in motorsports and even having song lyrics made about them. I remember when sleeper meant "an unassuming car that extremely fast" like the lambo killing farm truck or a old volvo 240 with a beat up paint job on steel wheels with a 500hp 350 swap or a bone stock exterior crown Vic with a terminator cobra swap. This Bmw looks great but its by no means a sleeper people call everything a sleeper now a days.

S55 is awesome. I love mine. I’ve got upgraded twins but I wish I would have went single!
I had Pures on my 2018 m4. Put down 730 WHP. I’m running stock turbos on my 2020 M4 and I love it just the same tbh. You really don’t need 730 whp to be happy Haha
