I'll tell you, if you didn't know it already, that line "I'd get down on my knees for you" is a heart melter. Any lady who can withstand that one is ice.
A lot will blue, my generation is cold!
Agree🥰🥰
That's how my husband got me back. While begging me to love him again. I felt so sorry for him, I had to give him another chance.
No autotune, no pyrotechnics, no overt sexuality, no frantic "dancers." Just stillness & talent. You could either sing...or not. It was a great time!
💯
This was live. One take. No Autotune. These guys were the real deal.
Their voices complement each other so well. Their harmonies are perfect.
Blue Eyed Soul at it's finest; high school classmates. So glad they found each other and touched our hearts with their talent. RIP Bobby Lee Hatfield and Carry on Bill Medley.
There are certain songs that are masterpieces that forever leave their mark in music history...this is one
No Auto-Tune and no ear piece. Straight raw vocal... unbelievable talent
I just love seeing young people hearing this awesome duo for the first time. A lot of people are surprised they are white. Amazing vocals! To be sure.
Pure talent, no embellishments, just fabulous voices. Mid ‘60’s, huge time for wonderful music.
Early on they were singing at a club and some black customers shouted that their music was "righteous brother". That is how they got the name.
This song was the most played song on radio till 2000. So more often than even any song from the Beatles!
At the end of an early live performance, someone stood up and shouted "That's righteous, brother" ... and that was when they decided to call themselves that.
When they started out they went by another stage name. While doing a show a guy in the audience yelled out That was righteous, brother" They liked it &took the name.
Are not actually related brothers......but are RIGHTOUS, brother!
“They adopted the name The Righteous Brothers for the duo because black Marines from the El Toro Marine base started calling them "righteous brothers". At the end of a performance, a black U.S. Marine in the audience would shout, "That was righteous, brothers!"
The Righteous Brothers are known as " Blue Eyed Soul" so well deservec; they're so very soulful; they're extraordinary. It's pure talent
Being a “child of the 60’s”, this brings back sweet memories. Clean, authentic music that strikes a chord with your soul. Great review!✌🏾🙋🏽♀️👑
🙏🏽🙏🏽
I just turned 69, and still love the music I grew up with, including all the Motown...
❤ I pray this Music comes back 😎🎼
When Bill leans into a lyric, it is pure magic.
No autotune in those days, just raw talent.
Can never go wrong with the Righteous Brothers. Great Boomer music!!
Love the Righteous Brothers. Welcome to Blue Eyed Soul. Everyone dressed up in the 60s!
No not brothers, no Autotune just pure talent. Bill Medley baritone n Bobby Hatfield tenor. Bobby died afew years ago but Bill is still singing, I was fortunate to be friends with Bill They are blue eyed soul. The name of group came from when they were singing at a pub( with many black people were there) They all said Your Righteous Brothers n it stuck. Soul n Inspiration is another favorite. I listened to them since the 60's n yes im old but their music keeps me young. Thank you for keeping their music alive. I'm subscribed for sure
This was done live, and I read somewhere that Cher was one of the backup singers
They got their name from a group of black Marines. They did one of their first shows at a blues bar, and when the crowd saw they were white, they started booing and throwing things on the stage. So the Righteous Brothers just starting singing. It literally shocked the crowd into silence. Afterwards the group of marines said, “ That was Righteous, brothers.” That’s how they got their band name. lol
The thing to remember this was way before auto tune or any of the other electronic cheats, this was during the time TALENT was required to be a singer.
Really got to me that sore spot. Think we all have it. But such a joy to go there with Righteous Brothers. Thanks for sharing your reaction
You sound like a gentle guy. So glad you went there with us ❤️🎶✌️😎❤️
"you know what Goose? She's lost that lovin' feelin'." "No Mav, she didn't, she didn't lose it. I hate it when she loses it!"
I hate it when she loses it...lol i love that scene!
Been listening to this for 50+ years and it still gives me chills! I believe this was produced by Phil Spector with his "Wall of Sound".
I heard that Cher was one of the backup singers.
@@deborahvretis3195 I heard that also and tried to pick her out......impossible as they're too far away.
Blue-eyed soul at its best!
Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, the greatest husband-wife songwriting team ever!
Amazing vocals and consider the fact that this is a live performance and no auto tune.
The Righteous Brothers were making a pretty good living touring up and down the West Coast singing at black clubs. A record producer heard them, and convinced them to make some records, which went bananas over the radio. I was a young teenager, and we had two radio stations in Houston that played teen music...and back then, that meant Motown as well as the white music. Almost half-and-half, so that's what I grew up listening to and loving. The Righteous Brothers fit right in with that. Back then, it was referred to as "Blue-eyed soul."
They are incredible love listening to them. Listen to Bobby singing “unchained melody” live in the 60s it’s phenomenal. This is a timeless song
@@twoofsix3b3g don't forget soul and inspiration my favorite
Blue Eyed Soul!
Not blood brothers
Phil Spector was their producer & he is known for The Wall of Sound....
Saw them 1965...incredible classy soulful singers.
"Soul & Inspiration"
"Just Want To Make Love To You."
Never Walk Alone
@@blakngoald
Mine too
@@kenbecht6892 Their Never Walk Alone is my absolute favorite. Bobby can hit that high note effortlessly and makes a great plateau in the song.
This was 1964, I was 16 at the time, this song by them was and still is the most played single on TV and Radio of ever song from 1964 to date in 2021.
Soul with a Capital "S:" Produced by Phil Spector and his wall of sound. This is why they are all in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, ( Bill, Bobby & Phil)
You dont know how much I enjoy seeing someone of your generation appreciating the fabulous music of my generation. Makes my heart sing.
Were a very popular duo in the 60s when I was in college. Not actual brothers Bill Medley (baritone) and Bobby Hatfield (tenor).
Thank you for keeping our music alive
Still gives me gooseys! You should also see Unchained Melody. A voice so pure, you think it's an actual angel!😃
Great choice!♥️
I totally agree Debbie! Unchained Melody is a must for RJ to hear.
As I'm sure everyone else will tell you, listen to "Unchained Melody".
Yes but the live one from the 60's.
Next on the list for them

The live version!
Use this link instead for "Unchained Melody" instead of the one posted above.
This has a very brief chat before the song starts...and will actually answer a few questions that you and others have.

The tall one is Bill Medley the other is Bobby Hatfield who sadly passed away from a drug overdose a couple years ago. Bill is in his seventies and still sings.
This is live & no auto tune! Pure talent & soul!!!
grew up with Righteous Brothers and LUVED every song they sang!! ABSOLUTE TALENT!! Rest in Peace, Bobby Hatfield, you are sorely missed......
When I was 21, I first heard these guys. That was 1964. We used to call them, "blue eyed soul". Now, at 79, i still get chills every time that i hear them do this song. Thank you for posting this video. It brought many fond memories back for an old man. Thank you.
Welcome to what we called BLUE EYE SOUL! There was some of the best music in the 50's, 60's and 70's! The fact that it is still selling many years later! They are not brothers! I hope you you do more from the golden years of rock! Jerry Butler and many more.
In the UK, in February 1965, two versions of this song stood at No 1 and No 2 in the singles chart, at the same time!
This is the most played song on radio and television (there was no Apple Play or youtube) in the 20th century with 8,000,000 plays from 1964 until 2000. Bobby Hatfield is the tenor and Bill Medly is the baritone. Bobby sang alone on some songs for movie themes. Ebb Tide is one. Bobby sang UNCHAINED MELODY. Bill sang the theme for the movie DIRTY DANCING, HAVING THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE, and sang the lead in I JUST WANT TO MAKE LOVE TO YOU which is a Mississippi Delta Blues song. Their catalog of music is epic. They are in THE ROCK AND ROLL OF FAME.
I'm71 years old and grew up with this great music. The funny part of the songs of my decade was I didn't know that a lot of the songs I listened to were preformed by Black Artist until Time Life had a special on the song of the 60's and 70's and showed the artist who sang them. Back then we only had radios couldn't afford records so never went into a record store I guess living in a small town has some draw backs LOL
What is a reaction, a reaction is based on if the song can bring a smile to your lips or a
tear to your eye and make a lasting memory on your soul. It is as
simple as that. You just listened to pure talent. No auto tune or other electronic BS. This was when people just picked up the mic and sang the song. Singers today with out auto tune couldn't carry, their luggage to a taxi cab.
According to stats, this was the most played song of the 20th century. Now that’s amazing, considering how many other songs that were written & played thru that century by any artists.
So glad to listen to them again with someone new (who appreciates them). They are incredible, must admit.
I bloody love this song, I'd forgotten about it
RIGHT RAD!!!...the name Righteous Brothers...couldn't be better...on so many levels. And your analysis of the lyrics is on point. These lyrics express the feelings of deep love lost...that so many of us humans endure. Quite a number of the Righteous Brothers' songs have lyrics that touch us emotionally on a very deep level. The songs Lyrics, the Musical Arrangements...and THOSE VOCALS...oh my. So unique...and so glad we can Share them through these Reaction Videos. Thanks.
I believe they got their name when they were singing somewhere, and someone called out, in amazed appreciation, "You guys are Righteous, Brothers!!" So no, they're not brothers by blood but definitely in their beautiful voices and harmonies. Bill Medley is the baritone; Bobby Hatfield is the tenor. I just love 'em! 🥰
They had a regular singing gig in a club outside the El Toro Marine Base in California. The black marines on the base liked their music a lot and after a really good show one of them called out "That was righteous, brothers" and they ended up choosing that as their group name. They hit the big time when they were on a stage bill with the Ronettes and the famous/infamous producer Phil Spectre heard them and arranged a contract deal with their small label. They were the first white group Spectre had ever signed. Their musical style became known as blue eyed soul.
“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Best Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" was the most played song on the radio in the 20th Century.
"Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965. Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree.
In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......
No, they are not brothers except of the soul, that would be blue-eyed soul! I loved your reaction! This is my third time sitting in on this one! I'm sure I will come back again to this one, great song, great reaction!
Listen to their "Unchained Melody". Bobby does an amazing job with that one. And remember this is from the 60's. Just raw talent.
Unchained Melody is a must. I think everybody loves it! ☮️ Listen to it, you know it, I am pretty sure
True raw talent..... band , microphones and voices! That's it, no auto tune, no computer mixing, just talented singers, singing! No they are not brothers, just high school friends!
When real male singers could just sang it
All God giving vocals no autotune
Not really brothers, but Bobby Hatfield (tenor on the left) and Bill Medley (baritone on the right) were definitely righteous, the definition of blue eyed soul. Next up should be Bobby's solo of Unchained Melody live in 1965 (the one where he's wearing a pink blazer). The studio version was a number one hit in 1965 and again 25 years later when it was in the movie Ghost.
This song was the most played radio song in the 20th Century.
The term blue-eyed soul was invented to describe them
“Unchained melody” was in the movie “ghost”, “you lost that loving feeling” was in the movie “top gun”
Bobby was from Beaver Dam Wisconsin
They played a club near a Marine base. A Black Marine stoodbup at the end of the set and said "that's righteous, brothers."
It stuck.
they said after one song someone from the audience yelled , That's Righteous Brother , and the name stuck
Saw them in San Diego live in 1965 with my girl friend. They were pure class. There were some Black folks there too. Lots of their songs are classics in my mind like this song.
Soul & Inspiration, Brown Eyed Women, See That Girl, Little Latin Lupe Loo,Just Want to Make Love To You, When You Walk in a Storm, Just Once In My Life....Good reaction young man.👍
Add Summertime and Somewhere and Bring it on home to me.
Many more all great thanks to Bobby who made them extraordinary and unfòrgetable.
Just makes me realize how soul and r&b have infused our beautiful music for decades.
It was called blue eyed soul. To hear Bobby Hatfield, the blonde, sing alone try Unchained Melody.
I have heard that this was historically the most played song over the radio on stations all-time (or at least the last century).
Thanks!
🔥✌🙂👍💯👏
Edit: A lot of people thought they were black until they saw them 😂
They got their name from some black marines who saw them at a gig & said, “That’s righteous, brothers!”
This was the most requested/played song on the radio in the last century.
“You’re My Soul and Inspiration” and “Unchained Melody” are 2 more good songs by them.
“everybody” was a figure of speech…not a good one, admittedly. But every reactor I’ve seen thought so. 🤷🏼♀️
That makes sense!
Then I guess I’m not “everybody “. I assumed they were white from day one. The group lead singer that fooled me was The Newbeats with their Bread and Butter song in 1964.
@@65motowngirl LOL! I remember that one!
No, they lived a mile from me. NEVER thought they were black. What ARE you talking about? Who the F is "everyone"?
You can see them being interviewed by Andy Williams in 1965 they told how they got the name and they said they were in a club down South and when they finished some guys yelled that was righteous brothers they liked that and made that their name. You can see the interview by searching Andy Williams and see the show they were on.
Great song. Great duo. An old favorite.
I once sang this at work...while working side by side with my boss. I didn't know she liked them.or knew the song....but I was singing both Bill and Bobby's lines at the end. ...
My boss got all excited... It set a good on pace... She was all "Sing it ! Darrin !"
It was a good night's work that night. Fun.
Bro I really love your reactions!!! This is one of the greatest songs ever recorded from the 60’s.
I grew up to their music. They are magic. Thank you.
Waaayyy before their time. In the late 50s and 60s, they were amazing. I was youngest of 8 girls and music was constant in my house. I actually still have their originals albums. Not vinyl…. Glass. They are not real brothers. Bobby Hatfield passed some years ago. Bill Medley, the taller, still performs. Soul and Inspiration is another hit. Also Unchained Melody was a single by a Bobby Hatfield.
And don't forget "Rock and Roll Heaven".
I love the lyrics and their voice
Time to bring back yesterday's good clean music without trickery, autotune..1964 recorded, most requested song 1965
They had just starting to perform together as a duo and a group of Black marines said “ You brothers are righteous.” so they decided to call themselves the Righteous Brothers.
The best duo of all time
I greatly loved and appreciated your breakdown of "You've lost That Lovin' Feeliin'". You spoke highly of the production (Phil Spector) and of the lyrics. The feelings embodied in the lyrics, and the lyrics themselves, were king in the production: everything and everyone was subject to them. The Righteous Brothers and the production team delivered both the feelings and lyrics beautifully and so had a hit.
Such amazing talents, both of them. They put out a lot of great music, both as a duo and also in solo efforts, which they liked to do occasionally. Bill is the tall brunette with the deep voice; Bobby is the blond tenor (or counter-tenor?) They were not actually brothers. They re-named themselves after playing a set at club near a Marine base - a Marine, who was black, called out, "That was righteous, brothers!" Along with their hits as a duet, check out Bobby's solo rendition of "Unchained Melody" - MAKE SURE to do the live version from 1965 (Andy Williams Show) - considered one of the finest live performances ever. You really get treated to his amazing vocal range (4 or maybe 5 octave range, I think) in that song. "Ebb Tide is another of his great solos-you really should give it a listen.
Not real brothers, but blue-eyed soul brothers. YAS, BABY! 🎶 🎼 🎵 ❤️
LOVE your reaction! We loved them in the 60s and still do.
Great reaction! Thank you for allowing me to sit in with you again! This is Blue-eyed soul at its finest! I loved your take on the song too, it matches my own!
It literally takes less than a second to subscribe, c'mon folks give Rad some love! It doesn't cost you anything!
“Soul & Inspiration” by these two dudes is a must reaction if you liked this one
THEY HAVE THE ANGELICAL VOICES FROM HEAVEN THWY ARE HERE ON EARTH TO HUMBLE US
Melting 🥵
Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley, the greatest duo ever. Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, the best husband/wife songwriters on the planet. Follow-up to Lovin' Feeling, is "Soul and Inspiration," also written by Mann and Weil. Unchained Melody" solo by Bobby, Live performance on the Andy Williams Show in 1965. Just Bobby and the mic with the Andy Williams orchestra. A whole nation of women fell in love that night. I was one of 'em. He will blow you away! And there is so much more of them!
Great Reaction. Great Song. Number One requested song in the 20th Century!
Bill Medley’s voice IS nasty…in a good way. see if you can find their version of “I Just Want to Make Love to You.” gives me shivers every time, it sounds so filthy!
This song was the most-played song on American radio in the 20th century. I mean, just imagine!
It has been reported in multiple sources that this song was the most played song on the radio in the 20th century.
Another funny story from their early days -- the owner/operator of a night club that catered to all-black audiences booked The Righteous Brothers -- sight unseen. He heard a recording or two and thought they'd be a perfect act, but when two skinny white boys showed up, he was mortified! It was too late to replace them with another act, so he had no choice but to put them on stage. The crowd wasn't happy...but when Bill and Bobby started singing, that changed! Before long, the crowd was eating it up and wouldn't let them off the stage! Entertainment critics invented the term "blue-eyed soul" to describe The Righteous Brothers.
Lol, such a cute story xoxo
I love how you really listened to this song! You heard what they were relaying through the lyrics. I think we all need to listen to each other with your intensity. Really listen, focus, and hear each other. Your reaction video has shown me that I need to look others in the eye, give my full attention, and really hear what people are saying. Thank you for the way you react. My first video of yours, and I hit subscribe! 👏👏👏
This style of music come from the 1950’s-1960’s. My favorite type of music!
Unchained Melody, the live version!
Great classic song. ❤️
They are both my brothers...
My Righteous Brothers...!!!
You just learned a lesson about what we called "Blue Eyed Soul". It's a reference to all the soulful white singers from the time. You just opened a can of "Blue Eyed Soul".
The legacy of Blue Eyed Soul lives on today in Michael McDonald, Rag-N-Bone Man and to a lesser extent even Rick Astley.
They got their name from a group of African-American Marines walked into a club that they were performing in California and Heard there voices and said that some righteous brothers
cette chanson vraiment magnifique , nous fait vibré jusqu'au frisson !...
You need to react to the Live version of Unchained Melody. I great song written for a 1955 B Movie about a prisoner missing his loved ones. But Bobby Hatfield's cover in 1965 became the standard. The song has since been covered by another 500 or so artists, none as good as Bobby Hatfield's version.
Next reaction for them
Yes!, the live version!
The live version!
One of the great, great songs and performances in pop music history. Nice, thougtful reaction.
Now you just have to react to Bobby Hatfield's solo "Unchained Melody"!!!
A very good in depth analysis of this song. Another good song is soul and inspiration or unchained melody. When they were trying to think of a name for themselves a black man in the audience said you brothers are righteous. That's where they got the name. I'm glad you liked them.
