Megalodons likely had their pups in warm coastal waters, where they could avoid deeper waters with bigger predators than them. Their young were much bigger and their whole body shape is completely different from the known sharks that are constantly being spotted and filmed in shallow waters. No baby megs = no adult megs.

But it would have to be much, much smaller and have so many different adaptations. Deep sea fish are weird. What few sharks we know of from the deepest depths of our oceans are no exception.

Think about it tho. If you see an animal that's unidentified and in terms of bigfoot, a giant man shaped beast, would you take a photo, or would you try and get away? Granted misidentifying is a huge factor, but if you think you see a Bigfoot, but you wait around and find out it's a grizzly walking on two legs, well you're dead. Grizzly bears are massive. So whether it's real or not, imagine being stupid enough to wait in the area to try and get pictures or vids. Nobody in their right mind wanna be around huge wild animals. I'm agnostic towards Bigfoot, I don't have any experience, so I can't say for sure, but I think it's an interesting topic

Can't wait for the Mammoth video. It's sort of a perfect storm remote geography and an animal that's just not that far back chronologically, compared to, say, plesiosaurs or sauropods. Mix in the Jack London short story, some frozen mammoth corpses and the Wrangell island mammoths, and boom, off to the cryptid rodeo

Indeed true, also same with mekosuchus the land dwelling and arboreal crocodile which persisted on the South Pacific islands such as New Caledonia, Vanuatu, and another species related to mekosuchus on Fiji very recently, just like the wrangle island mammoths. Could very likely be a persisting species or relative of mekosuchus on remote South Pacific islands, and New Guinea as well. Wonder if there would be any possible persisting mammoths? Mastodons? Or even Notiomastodon ?

There’s also reports of a land crocodile from South American Amazon rainforest from the country of Brazil and even Guyana from the Waiwai people.
Said to be a large land carnivore with big teeth, vibrant colors like a Jaguar, and makes booming calls. Could be a sebecid crocodile like barinasuchus.
Also suspect mekosuchus the dwarf land dwelling and arboreal crocodile likely still persists in New Guinea and other South Pacific remote islands. New species of monitors found in 2023 and giant arboreal rats have been described form the Solomon Islands in 2017, quite recently, and a survey could find a new species of dwarf land croc such as mekosuchus one day.
Also reports of the giant crocodile mahamba of the Congo is another intriguing Cryptid, as with the African aquatic saber tooth cats and semi aquatic rhinos.

One thing I'd like to know about sightings of thylacines is the number of them per year. I feel like cryptids with hundreds and thousands of sightings have a better chance of being real than ones that have like one or two.

    • @juliusfucik4011
      @juliusfucik4011 2 місяці тому +1

Sure, but we already know the Thylacine existed.
Also, we can not discount our brains playing tricks. Since we all share similar brain structures, we may expect our brains to play tricks in similar ways.
However, I fully believe bigfoots real. The photo taken of the beast of seven chutes seals the deal for me. Many many casts, some of trackways hundreds of prints long, showing the correct foot flexibility. Dermal ridges on prints. Prints taken far apart showing the same size and dermal ridge pattern.
It is just hard to believe how one could hoax that.
Megalodon? Nah. Loch Ness monster? Nope.

I live in Tasmania & have always held hope that Thylacines still exist. Unfortunately while there are huge areas of wilderness here, the open habitat they preferred to hunt in, is pretty much all farmland now. Even the Tasmanian Devil which was a common sight just a few decades ago has all but disappeared. Sadly, I think there is little hope that they have adapted to survive in the huge areas of Barron alpine habitat and the dense temperate rain forests of the west coast. The areas that even humans haven't totally exploited yet! It would be wonderful if I was wrong!

A 30 foot Green Anaconda wouldn't be a cryptid - it would be a large specimen of a known species. A 10ft Blue Anaconda, however, would be. It's not the length, its if the species is known to science.

    • @wildworld6264
      @wildworld6264  2 місяці тому +5

      Well, that's not necessarily true.
Perhaps there needs to be a stricter definition, but "cryptid" also includes:
Known animals outside their known range, e.g. Big cats in the UK,
Known animals that are thought to be extinct, e.g. the Thylacine,
And known animals of exceptional size have also been considered to be cryptids, e.g. Giant Anacondas and Giant Saltwater Crocodiles.
(Like in the Cryptozoology books 'On the track of Unknown Animals' by Bernard Huevelmans and 'Adventures in Cryptozoology' by Richard Freeman.)
Like I said, maybe we need a better definition, but I am also kind of just poking fun at the idea that after a certain 'unverified' size something can be a cryptid and trying to push that "definition" as far as I can.

Also in regards to Megalodon, we know the young ones lived in shallow waters thanks to sites that preserve an abundance of small individuals and no adults, so if they were around today we would most definitely have encountered young individuals, especially given that humans would be far more suitable prey for juveniles. Yes, Megalodon could have evolved to loose this behaviour, but... theres no real reason for it do so, a plenty of reason to maintain said behaviour. So to those pushing the idea of Megalodon still be around, never mind where are the adults? Where are their kids?
In short a 50ft giant shark living at the bottom of the sea is plausible, however it being Megalodon specifically, I think that completely goes against what we know of its ecology and lifestyle, as well as its modern relatives. Sooooo

I'd have a harder time believing that a tiger like that could survive very long in Alaska. I mean, maybe it could happen, but competition with bears and difficulty hunting big game like elk or moose make it too hard.

Only if it’s a completely new species from the currently known.
There are quite a few cryptid crocodiles, two or more terrestrial ones, semi terrestrial, semi aquatic, and marine.
Say something like the reported mahamba which is said to grow to 30 feet though has been claimed to grow to 50 feet which seems quite unlikely at that size, 30 to 33 foot seems more reasonable, since crocodiles at 30 to 33 feet were around during the Pleistocene like euthecodon of Africa.

So no they cant still be around. Its possible there is such a small population somewhere away from people but highly unlikely. So unfortunately i have to say they are likely gone fir good.

    None of these are cryptids.
A cryptid is Sasquatch, the Mothman, chupacabra, etc.
These are extinct animals and oversized animals that still exist, that's all.

a cryptid is an animal unrecognised by science but is believed to exist, so animals like the thylacine are cryptids

Thanks for the comment, but the term cryptid does include extinct animals that some believe are still alive.
The 'father' of Cryptozoology, Bernard Huevelmans, wrote what is considered the first book on
Cryptozoology 'On the Track of Unknown Animals' and the book has chapters on the Moa, Mammoths, Giant Ground Sloths and non-avian dinosaurs.
Ivan T Sanderson, sometimes thought to be the other 'father' of cryptozoology, also went in search of pterosaurs and non-avian dinosaurs.
They also both use the coelacanth ( a fish that was thought to have gone extinct millions of years ago but was discovered alive in 1938) as proof for cryptids. And trust me, a lot of people in the cryptid community continue to use it as proof for other cryptids. (Which is pretty annoying, lol)
More recent books like 'A to Z of Cryptozoology' by the cryptozoologist by Loren Coleman has chapters on Megaladon, the Moa and the Thylacine.
The book 'Adventures in Cryptozoology' by the cryptozoologist Richard Freeman has a chapter on the thylacine and "Adventures in Cryptozoology' volume two has a thylacine on the cover. He also states in the opening chapter
"Cryptids fall into several categories...the second category is that of creatures thought to be extinct, but that may still thrive".
The cryptozoologist Dr Karl Shuker published a book titled "Still in search of Prehistoric Survivors", which, as the title suggests, examines extinct animals that may still exist.
The organization 'The Centre for Fortean Zoology' which describes itself as 'a professional and scientific organisation dedicated to cryptozoology' has funded searches for thought to be extinct animals like the thylacine. In fact, the thylacine is their logo.
The international Cryptozoology Museum in Portland has exhibits on quote "living fossils".
The cryptid wiki has many different extinct animals on the list of cryptids, including Megalodon, Moa etc.
Also, there are theories that Nessie is a plesiosaur(an extinct animal) and bigfoot is a Gigantopithecus (an extinct animal). I don't really believe that, but they are popular theories. Even if you say, for example, Bigfoot is a descendant of Gigantopithecus and therefore an unknown species, you could say the same argument about Megalodon. And again, the Thylacine is almost a symbol for cryptozoology at this point.
I know critics think the term is too loose, and they may be right, but as it stands right now, the word is more of an umbrella term. The founders of cryptozoology, modern day cryptozoologists, cryptozoology organizations and museums and the general cryptid community overall all agree that extinct animals that could still be alive are cryptids.

@@wildworld6264 Still not buying it. These are all regular animals that went extinct or have strange sizes. There's nothing cryptic about them so they are not cryptids.
See, logic wins every time. :P

    Cryptid means 'Unknown' !
Most of the animals you discuss are well known.
Your video is very interesting but technically incorrect because of your non understanding of this term.
