Thank you for this info. Have changed this setting, Although not sure if it’s even been working on my account, as I have been waiting for payment on some accepted counter offers, I sent in the last few days. Hopefully will yield positive results. I remember a few months ago, Zee from only cool stuff posted about issues with this policy. A big problem he was having is buyers not realising that they had auto paid and then requesting cancellations after item had been shipped. IMO, a much better solution to solve the non-payment issue would be to use the Vinted model. I.E item still remains available to other buyers until it’s paid!
This is really interesting. Completely agree with the Vinted way and it staying for sale until paid. I guess they're worried about the delay in checking out if more than 1 customer wants the same item. I'd have it so if one customer is in the checkout page, the other customer gets a push notification showing a 30 second wait, and then another notif shortly after to say the item is available still (if checkout didn't occur). We were still getting non-payers with the box ticked as I think it's being rolled out over a period of time for both buyers and sellers (in September they stated "In the coming months"). An increase in cancellation request is definitely likely, which is why weve relaxed the blocking of buyers for cancellations for the time being.
YES agreed! I did know about it, My big issue with this was the lack of initial notification from ebay as you said, however as a seller & buyer, I as a buyer have actually signed up for this as its super quicker! plus I'm a big believer in if you don't have the dosh you can't have it! So don't offer , bid or buy! It seems you have your listings mainly on offers so I don't blame you for omitting it from your ebay.
Yes that’s a good point. We have Best Offer on 85% of our listings. It’s just for this initial stage whilst buyers realise it’s an option from more sellers now to be required to make an instant payment.
Oh, yes we’ve been a bit out of touch. It’s definitely not been talked about enough. We knew it was on the way, the update said ‘in the next few months’. What was carefully hidden was the option to opt out and when it was actually being introduced.
I turned mine off around 6 months ago as i was so frustrated as a buyer over the summer. I buy a lot of stuff from eBay to sell and it was getting in my way sending offers out over the summer! There is also a buy it now box to require immediate payment which I have unchecked!
Saw it in the latest eBay seller news. Also go told month and half ago and unticked the box. Still had very small handful non payers at least 90% are paying for items.
is the buyer requirements clickable link only if you have a shop I don't have a shop and I don't see the page you're showing when I follow your instructions. THANKS
Just to be different - I welcomed the new setting and left it on. I rarely use Best Offer and try to price realistically (When I see Best Offer, it makes me feel like the seller has no idea on pricing). I was sick of being messed around by non-payers and those problems seem to have lessened, whilst sales are consistent. I never liked stuff being off the store for days whilst waiting for payment. I suppose it depends a lot on what you are selling but I'm in no hurry to switch it off. Anyway, great video - keep up the good work!
Definitely depends what you sell. If you had multi quantity you probably wouldn't worry too much about 1 in 10 non-buyers. Because we do majority Best Offer, whilst this is new for buyers, we'll keep it unticked (we often don't know about pricing for some categories on eBay as what we sell are often unique or rare and are happy for buyers to help us). Thanks for commenting, great to here the other side.
Brilliant! We knew something was up with Offers, felt like only a few weeks but perhaps it was only a few weeks since we actually consciously noticed Offers weren’t being affected whilst we were going through a growth period anyway.
We watched an American reseller video and they mentioned it and turned it off straight away and had an immediate up turn in sales and not Looked back 😊
@jpk63 that’s what we’re seeing, although it’s always difficult to tell at this time of year, plus we’re usually always tinkering with something else too.
Thanks for the advice - I've turned it off on one of my accounts and see if it helps sales. I had a look for any buyers that it had been blocking. I had 6 but absolutely all of them were no longer a registered user. Before your video, I probably would have taken that as reassurance that these people had been potentially kicked off ebay for persistent non-paying. That is, there system was working. One other thing to check whilst you are digging around is your international settings. I found a buyer in there from Germany who had been trying to buy an item but was rejected as from a country I don't ship to. I had ebay international shipping turned on, so not quite sure why this would be the case. This was my main business account that I've only recently re-activated . Half my sales (antiques) used to go overseas, but now its very rare. Going back to the topic of offers, I've had an increase in offers lately that have been really low-ball figures - perhaps that is related to your point. That is, they are just spamming loads of sellers with really low offer without any worry that they get accepted, as they will easily be able to flip. Another youtuber gave me great advice. He acknowledged that its natural to get offended/annoyed with these low-ballers. However, put that to one side and engage with them, go back with a slightly lower offer (it doesn't matter if its pennies). The algorithm sees this as an active item getting attention so will further promote it and you could get a sale shortly afterwards. I gave it a try and he was absolutely correct. I had a long back and forth with this low-baller until he ran out of offers. A few days later, the item sold at full price to another buyer. Keep up the good work - watching your videos keeps me motivated during these weird times.
Hello, yes knew about this from Badbiscuit video. Also it was on facebook and I took screen shots to make sure I had implemented the unticking of the relevant boxes. Thanks for sharing and keeping sellers updated. Some great sales there. Interesting how long things take to sell. Do you have any opinions on the recent changes to the ebay algorithm and its effect on long tail items. I realise you like quick sales we all do, but some things can hang around. Be interesting to hear your views when you have the time. Q4 is busy busy busy❤
@@Married2Reselling I got my info from Polish Pete UK You tube videos. Which has just made me think that he might not be aware of this amendment to buyers payment requirements and that might be affecting his sales. Off to Inform!
Hi Guys, stumbled across your channel, great tip. I’m finding my feet selling on ebay and the other day an agent on the phone recommend I accept Returns as the buyer will just force one if they want one so they basically said having no returns is pointless _ do you accept returns? The few sellers I watch on here both offer 14 days and the buyer pays return post but ebay insisted I should offer 30 and free returns? Whats your thoughts on returns? Cheers
Welcome to the channel. We’re business sellers so as a minimum we have to offer 14 days, seller pays (unless it’s a change of mind return). Accepting returns offers peace of mind for the buyer and will encourage sales. In the event that the item is damaged, defective or not as described, you will be forced to accept a return anyway. As standard, we offer 30 days, some items we offer 60 and with free returns for the buyer, no matter what the return reason. Hope that helps!
it's been badly implemented, a one-time setup for payment method the first time a buyer uses ebay as a guest or opening an account, clearly stating it will only be asked for this time and all future payments (with a confirmation box) will be took from this source unless changed should be enough
Yes, auctions is the one thing that I wouldn’t compromise on. When someone wins an auction, they should pay. Hopefully having the box ticked for auctions should work for you 🤞
Yes it was. We all knew that it was coming. The update said ‘in the next few months’. What was carefully hidden was the option to opt out and when it was actually being introduced. They also said they’re implementing stricter policies for non payers including account suspension, yet I’m still able to block someone who has 5 unpaid in a month 🤣 All very wishy-washy IMO.
For exactly this reason ebay has changed it about a month ago, and you can decline putting payment details while making the offer. Another thing is that Ebay is changing that process literally every week, for last 3 months, so whatever we're saying today, may not be valid tomorrow.
Good to know, we’ve seen lots of people reporting an uplift since changing it, so whatever changes eBay made to the process didn’t wholly work. You’re right about the info too, this stuff gets outdated quick 👍
It a bit like VAR in football. All the sellers moaning that offers get accepted and then the buyer doesn't pay. eBay fix it and then sales fall off a cliff!.
Great analogy. We had a £75 offer on a jumper going to the States. It was the customers first ever eBay order. Took them a couple of days to pay, but we wouldn’t have got that sale with the box ticked.
Require Immediate Payment is only for Buy It Now sales, not Auctions or Offers. We think it’s worth at least trialling, so we’d love to hear how you get on.
Hi Faye & Simon. I knew this was happening on my account about a week ago, when in quick succession, 2 potential buyers messaged me and told me that eBay were insisting on their payment details before making an offer. I got the impression that both of them felt choice was being taken away from them, and I know I definitely lost one sale because of it! I have now turned it off, let's see what happens - hopefully a few more sales.

Done it thank you , I noticed a difference and I never had a big problem with people not paying tbh. Let’s see what happens next.

We're back with more sales, and we’re discussing a change that eBay has made that’s slowed sales.
Great advice I've changed my settings thanks!
Glad to help!

Interesting, thinking about it, we've had a few more of those than usual
thanks for that - great advice

Wow, the BIN immediate payment, that takes it to a new level, do you get many nonpayers on those?
Thank you. Hope this helps my shop.

Ooh when you say ‘instructions’ like that 😱. Just trial it 😃 and see what you think 👍

Bad Biscuit talked about it 3-4 weeks ago, but I didn’t get around to do it!

No, I also have it on my personal account. It sounds like you’re not using Seller Hub. Ebay.co.uk/sellerhub
Might be the answer, not sure
Hi, really appreciate your content, i've now turned it off in both of my eBay accounts, so lets hope those sales pick up ! 🙂

It’s stretch shrink wrap. If you go to our links in the description of all our vids, or our IG, it’s the 4th link down.
