I really prefer the looks of the Colorado over the Canyon. I understand why people like the Canyon front end better, but for me, I like the more futuristic/modern look of the colorado front end. Canyon looks dated imo.
Why would the AT4 not come with a factory hitch? Seems strange to charge the same price when versatility isn’t the same...I do like the face lifts on both trucks but it’s hard to justify full-size truck pricing on mid-size trucks. Good video TFL, thank you.

Why don't you guys review and compare more basic models instead of high end fully loaded? Many people look at more base models due to affordability and would love to see more of those reviews.
Yeah, for 10 grand less most people won't even consider getting the at4. Not the economy for that kind of spending, and most who can afford it won't be looking at one of these anyways. This is the perfect vehicle for a young guy who wants something reliable and capable, while still remaining compact and luxurious. These things drive like SUV's, at work we have a 2018 model I drive sometimes and there have been times where the tires break free coming out of a parking lot and I just have to let out a smile
I've never had any issues with these trucks which is why I've been driving GMC or Chevy trucks for the last 36 years. Not much difference except GMC typically has nicer styling.
That all depends on what you want! The Silverado will cost more to run and buy per mile, with most cases not have more ease of parking. I had owned nothing but Silverado’s and an Avalanche before GM released the mid sized twins. The Colorado is actually fun to drive!

I bought a 73 Cadillac sedan deville, in LA, my friend had a 76 mercury marquis, with a rusted front, so i found good fender and inner wheelhouses in a junk yard in LA. We loaded the fenders, only to se that they were to long for the bed, my friend could not belive that my trunk was bigger than his truck. 😂 😂

I just got myself a 2022 Colorado Z71 with the 6-cyl and 8 speed trans brand new off the lot about a year ago. Funnily at the same time my father went and got a brand new Canyon, 2022 as well. Ours are the same level trim in their respective categories but he is always jealous of mine. Mostly from the fact that st the same price range mine is fully loaded and his has half the features mine has. Including heated seating and steering wheel, lane keep assist/warning, forward collision warning, etc. I gotta be honest I adore my Colorado, got it in the Tan option and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Only thing I regret is getting the RWD, they didnt have any 4x4 on the lot and I needed one quick so I didnt have the choice. But it's been surprisingly capable offroad, especially surprising me in all the loose dirt/sand we get here in Texas near El Paso.
Sticker price is 42. Clearly you’ll get a better deal after some negotiating, and given good timing, maybe a much better deal. Personally I don’t get all the fussing about interior. As it is, it’s clean, very functional, and durable. The more plush it is, the more amenities and creature comforts they add...the more the price rises. Love my 2017 Colorado.
Random question to the peeps: speaking cost only, is a manual transmission cheaper than a modern automatic? (Fluids, potential replacement vs. Clutch replacements ever so often) I'll keep my car for well over a decade. I'm considering the new Bronco fyi.
If you want to keep your car for a long time yes manual will be cheaper as long as you don’t abuse the clutch. Replacing an auto trans is much more expensive.
My 2019 F150 XLT also has an actual key to start it. I was disappointed about that at first, but I've recently learned how easy it is for (ALL) push button start vehicles to be stolen. The key fob broadcasts a continuous radio signal that always looks for the vehicle, it's not the vehicle that looks for the fob, it's the other way around. That signal can be picked up from 300 feet away, copied, then downloaded to a blank fob and used at any time to access and start the vehicle and drive away. Apparently organized crime is all over this. They cruise neighborhoods and particularly malls if they see a vehicle in demand they'll sit by it, wait for the owner to approach, record the signal that their fob is always broadcasting, copy it and download it to a blank. Then the bad guy simply follows the owner home, gets the address and simply waits for a good time to walk up and steal the car. They immediately drive it to a shipping container headed overseas never to be seen again. And all this time I thought (wrongly) that push button start was less likely to be stolen.
Can I ask how hard the headlight bulbs are to replace. My brother has GMC and changing headlight is an unbelievable task and $500 bulbs. I miss 1999 headlight swing clips. So easy to replace bulbs. And they cost $30
The long box is 6’ 2”. The extended cab has the long box, but most buyers want the crew cab with a 5’ 2” box. You can order a crew cab with a long box if you prefer, but will also have a longer wheelbase.
The Canyon's tires are great for stock tires - I had them on my 2015 F-150 - and I couldn't get that truck stuck in the mud, grass, gravel, and snow I drove it in. Granted, it wasn't crazy off-road stuff, but it handled it nicely!
Does AT4 come with LED headlights? I see they are projector, but can’t tell if they are LED or not. I’d hope so considering it’s the highest trim in the Canyon under the Denali.
I’m in my second Colorado, the first was an Ext Cab, so I was forced to trade it in for a CrewCab, when we both retired and needed only one vehicle. I’ve never had any issues, get very good mileage, have many miles of effortless towing, with first a 22’, 4,000 lbs travel trailer, then we traded for an all around larger trailer, that’s 26’ ling, by a full 96” wide and up to 6,000 lbs max as the heaviest we ever travel in the 4,800 lbs ready to go but empty trailer. When the time comes we need to replace it? The first place I’ll look is at the Chevy dealer. Both truck are the very same, sure the GMC is a “premium” brand😉, but there are more Chevy dealers around if needed on my travels. Looks are subjective, yes the front end looks a little more like a truck on the Canyon, but from all other angles, especially from the sides with the smooth bulging fenders on the Colorado, look so much better to me than the dimpled busy looking fenders on the Canyon! Just my $.02 worth. Oh one more issue, instead of a Z71 this time? I went with a WT, with every package available, the only items I don’t have are the “leather” seats, with heat, two tone interior and black grill. But I have everything else! For approx 6kLESS! At 33k ! Both are 4x4.
If y’all pulled out the ZR2 bison Colorado with the duramax against the canyon there would be no contest; for me the Colorado is a good looking trucking in that spec and fairly dependable for its class
Andre the only right answer is NEITHER. Great video but it just demonstrates why I drive a Tacoma. More for less. The differences are like Ford and Mercury in the past. The GMC is a tarted up version for more $$$
Which one of these truck would I have, answer neither I'm going Tacoma all the way if you really want a midsized truck, but if you want more bang for your buck just step to a full size they both cost basically the same because the full-size truck get a lot more dealer incentives, and you get some much more for your money. But that's just my 2 cents
I’m on the fence with Chevy & close to getting a Tacoma. I’m not too excited about the back seats though. I’m sure I’ll never sit in them so maybe it doesn’t matter.
It is easier to remove the chin spoiler than it is to install one that was never there. I like that they put one on actually. However, I took mine off on my 18' Z71 and installed OEM skids and sliders. LOVE IT for the first 45k miles. For the first 8k miles after removing the air dam I still averaged 23.7mpg (mostly low speed hwy commuting). These days I drive almost entirely back roads and around town. I average around 21 to 23 mpg. However, I only use about one tank of fuel per month if I don't take trips! Design your life.

I miss bumpers. Even a mild fender bender these days means $1K+ in damage.
Don’t you have insurance?
@@jeffsiemens4485 Yes, with a 500 deductible.
The Colorado is a better product but man, the Canyon looks so much agressive and masculine
I really prefer the looks of the Colorado over the Canyon. I understand why people like the Canyon front end better, but for me, I like the more futuristic/modern look of the colorado front end. Canyon looks dated imo.
Except the boxy headlights.
@@stevepowsinger733 is not boxy, is manly
How is it a better product when they are identical except for the front exterior?
@@robinsonmac tow package, bedliner, etc
Why would the AT4 not come with a factory hitch? Seems strange to charge the same price when versatility isn’t the same...I do like the face lifts on both trucks but it’s hard to justify full-size truck pricing on mid-size trucks. Good video TFL, thank you.
Full-sized trucks with that equipment about $10,000 more.
Dealer options im guessing... I got a 19 sle with tow package but no trailer break controller.
Trailer package is optional even on the Colorado at 250 bucks
The refresh on the Chevy looks great!
I have a 2004 Canyon still runs and looks great no problems I love it , for me its the GMC hands down all day long love it !!
Unless it's the ZR2, GMC Canyon hands down. However GM should have a bed liner in EVERY truck and more tech, especially in a $40k AT4.
Zr2 can’t tow as much so for many that’s a big deal
The choice is clear Colorado ZR2 v6 and neither of these. (Don’t need to tow more than 5000)
I own 2019 ZR2 and love it. The only thing I would change about ZR2 is increase its max payload. 1100 lbs is really nothing
More options on the Colorado for the same money. That’s my pick
I currently own my 3rd Crew Cab Long Bed Z71 Colorado. My first 2 were V6 and my current Z71 is a Duramax 4WD. Without a doubt my current CCLB Z71 Duramax is the very best. Window sticker on my Duramax was $42000 and i purchased it for $33000.
Same! I got mine used with 12k miles on it. Love my baby Duramax Z71!
ZR2 is available as crew cab std bed or extended cab long bed !!
6:21 Uh, you most definitely CAN get the ZR2 with an access cab and a long box, at least here in Canada!
You can in the states as well.
Why is a receiver hitch not standard equipment on the GMC. I suppose it doesn’t have the 7 and 4 pin plugs either like the Chevy does.
I've never had any issues with these trucks which is why I've been driving GMC or Chevy trucks for the last 36 years. Not much difference except GMC typically has nicer styling.
My 2020 Silverado Z71 trail boss cost less 40k after incentives, much more of a truck than these two.
That price is half ton territory; I think you'd get better value with a custom trailboss silverado (which would be almost the same price)
That all depends on what you want! The Silverado will cost more to run and buy per mile, with most cases not have more ease of parking. I had owned nothing but Silverado’s and an Avalanche before GM released the mid sized twins. The Colorado is actually fun to drive!
I'm sure it is fun to drive, just costs as much as a half-ton.
@@cnoyes72 Exactly my thought when I was looking at Tacomas and these twins. Ended up with Silverado that costed just little bit more end even the fuel consumption is comparable + I have a V8 and plenty of room for passengers and my toys...
I would also go for the Canyon. In the future if GMC doesn't make an off-road oriented Jimmy, I might go for one of these.
Weird the ZR2 only stickers out for 2k more?? That would be a no brainer.
Maybe, but you would be sacrificing 2500lbs of towing capacity.
I just bought a 22 GMC I pick it up tomorrow and its fully loaded its not the at4 its the Elevation I can paint my hooks red and put bigger tires I dont like black wheels what so ever i will be up grading them great Video .
you said they both had tow mode but why would the gmc have tow mode with no tow bar installed?
I don't care about the tires. The GMC doesn't even have a damn tow package and also bed liner. I have my own company and tow tool's and Trailer's. Hand's done 100% Colorado. For me.
Chevy Colorado for me. Not a big fan of the taillights on the GMC but the front end is nicer looking. . Other than the front end and the taillights these trucks are almost identical. Tires you can change on your own.
For almost the same price, as others have commented, I'll also take the Colorado with hitch and spray in bed liner options. Way more useful for my needs than better off-road setup of the Canyon.
I took my colorado z71 4x4 2020 to my dealership body shop and had my front air dam trimmed and it looks great cost 80 bucks now I don't have to take it off when I go off road
I bought a 73 Cadillac sedan deville, in LA, my friend had a 76 mercury marquis, with a rusted front, so i found good fender and inner wheelhouses in a junk yard in LA. Two fenders and one wheelhouse in the trunk, and the other in the backseat. When the caddy arrived to sweden, my friend came with his Nissan Navara pic up. We loaded the fenders, only to se that they were to long for the bed, my friend could not belive that my trunk was bigger than his truck. 😂 😂
Which one is the truck?.......😂😂
@@Inferno45 its obvious...in Sweden a large car is considered a truck😂🤣
I had a '72 Caddy with white leather and lime green paint. My dad got it for about $200 back in the 80s. It had a 600 + cubic inch engine!
Essentially they are the same truck just with different styling. Years ago GMCs were built better than Chevys but those days are over.
The Colorado has a spray in bedliner and hitch. I like the gmc one better but can't ignore that those are two things I would be adding so I would be curious to see how much those add. 1-2k?
Back when I was a kid (late 1950’s) asked my dad why GMC’s cost a couple of hundred dollars more than Chevy trucks. His answer was that GMC used lock washer. 😳
What are lock washers?
Who is "lock washer?"
I’d take either of these - both great trucks. Thx for the review Andre
I was genuinely interested in this comparison, and i knew you guys were in colorado, but i didnt know you were THAT close! my brother literally works at johnson auto plaza this is awesome.
I really wish they'd put the trans shift on the column...thT would make better storage situation for the center console
I love my 2020 Colorado z71 with the duramax it's a beast and 30+mpg highway easy. Midnight edition came with the duratracs and a bed liner ! Picked it over the zr2 for the extra tow rating
If you get 30+ mpg you must not be driving over 60-65 MPH. I have a 2016 Canyon SLT, 2WD and drive 81MPH in 75MPH zones and I get anywhere from 24-26mpg in windy West Texas.
@@The_Osprey yeah cruise control set at 65, never speed I spent too much ! My best is 35.1 mpg so far !
@@The_Osprey I can confirm the 30+ mpg numbers even over 65 mph. But remember, Smitty and I have the Duramax. Do you? or v6?
Thanks Andre for this review! yeap I'll take the Canyon too, but, no bedliner? No tow hitch? Wtf..😄 ok, I'll keep my crv for my restaurant 😄
You can get the duratrec tires on the Colorado. You can get a hitch on the at4.
I agree with Andre the GMC is nicer I like the front end the big tires but no to tow hitch WTF a deal breaker.
I AGREE. GMC for your reasons also!
Yes they’re the same inside but for some reason you look like you fit better in the GMC when you got in.
Too bad they don't make the GMC in the extended cab model. I want the longer bed, not 4 doors.
Great reviews as always. Keep up the good work.
Replacing an auto trans is much more expensive.
at4, no hitch? Like the at4 look but bed liner and hitch, no brainer. tires are an easy swap and paint your tow hooks red in an afternoon. haha
How is the ride on the Canyon with those aggressive tires? If I mostly drive highway, is the ride comfortable?
As always, Andre does an excellent job and covers everything that people want to know.
Can I ask how hard the headlight bulbs are to replace. My brother has GMC and changing headlight is an unbelievable task and $500 bulbs. I miss 1999 headlight swing clips. So easy to replace bulbs. And they cost $30
I like the GMC. But I love the color of the Chevy.😁
They're all 5' beds on the lots.. what's the point of owning a truck anymore
The long box is 6’ 2”. The extended cab has the long box, but most buyers want the crew cab with a 5’ 2” box. You can order a crew cab with a long box if you prefer, but will also have a longer wheelbase.
Ya and if you want larger than that get a full size...
Does the tow hitch come standard in the Chevy?
In Colorado you get extra liner and Tow Hook. Tires ? Eventually you can put on better tires on Colorado
The Canyon's tires are great for stock tires - I had them on my 2015 F-150 - and I couldn't get that truck stuck in the mud, grass, gravel, and snow I drove it in. Granted, it wasn't crazy off-road stuff, but it handled it nicely!
I found the difference! The GMC engine is cleaner!
You can configure the Colorado ZR2 with the extended cab and long box on the Chevrolet website.
“Gm doesn’t change the front end of the off road models” ever heard of a zr2?
he meant GMC not GM overall, ZR2 is for Chevy and the front end is different. the AT4 GMC's front end is identical to the rest of the Canyons.
Does AT4 come with LED headlights? I see they are projector, but can’t tell if they are LED or not. I’d hope so considering it’s the highest trim in the Canyon under the Denali.
How do they drive? Comfort or not?
Which is the best truck? That’s easy - the one with the diesel ...
Either or-just add the E locker option from GM. Do they not offer that upon customer request?
The big wrangler tires are a 500 buck option on the Colorado
If y’all pulled out the ZR2 bison Colorado with the duramax against the canyon there would be no contest; for me the Colorado is a good looking trucking in that spec and fairly dependable for its class
Dunno about the Goodyear tires. They tend to pull to the left.
Andre the only right answer is NEITHER. Great video but it just demonstrates why I drive a Tacoma. More for less. The differences are like Ford and Mercury in the past. The GMC is a tarted up version for more $$$
I want that tilt telescoping steering wheel for sure mentioned that 1 B4.
Shouldn't the AT4 be compared to the zr2?
