I've noticed some people put oil on the edge of the filter, and others fill it before putting it on. Does it matter which?
Don’t need to fill up oil in oil filters… that for old car with turbo engines only …cars with turbo engines that are 2005 and less model years
Actually filling the filter is to prevent no oil circulating while the filter absorbs and then fills up to begin flowing oil up to the engine.

What’s the best oil to use on the turbo model?
It’s just all depends on your driving and weather conditions… for normal everyday driving conditions I think any brand like full synthetic brands like castrol,mobil1 ,valvoline it’s all good
I think Mazda suggest fully synthetic castrol oil so you can go with that

Is that an Allen wrench or regular?
To remove cover you can use Philips screw driver or 7 or 8 mm socket and engine oil filter plug is 17 mm … yes Mazda mixed up some years with Ellen wrench for engine oil plug

It’s not working because it’s OFF.. some people don’t want service light to pop on .. so they turn it off
