- I recently completed my 1J swap into my 2002 IS300.
My purpose was to build a car that I can drive to and from the track, after a long day of drifting, WITH working AC. The swap was straight forward but it can be hard to find solid info. So I'm hoping this video can shed some light.
Which 1j? Which engine mounts? Engine harness? brackets? how to Intercooler? etc.
Here is the way I did it. The right way.
Specs:
JZS171 Crown 1JZ VVT-i
Xcessive Manufacturing PNP Link ECU
Greddy I/C, Exhaust
295whp, 300ft.lbs of torque.

Greddy should come out with more IS300 parts! This platform is making a comeback. I've owned mine since 2004 and would love to rock some Greddy parts.

Dude this video was beyond informative. I thank you for all the time and patience you put into this video describing step by step all the important stuff. I'm going with a 1j swap in my IS300 as well. Much more affordable and all the 2jzgtes come with the 6 speed aristo automatic tranny and the 6 speed manual is like 10gs!! But the 154 most likely comes on the 1j or at least is only like 5-1500 to buy which is much more feasible and original. I know I could put the 154 on a 2j but I like how the 1j is a single turbo and i see a ton of 2js going to single turbo. Beautiful car brotha thanks for inspiration!!

Ken what did you end up doing with your EVAP lines I'm currently getting my harness built by Panic Wire and not sure what to do with those lines.

This is good technical information.. those forums have my head spinning. Gushi, after doing the 1J swap, would you prefer this route for an sc300 or a soarer import? I have a 97 sc with the na motor for 5-6 years with more than 300k miles. Ready to try something new but won’t leave the chassis. What’s your advice?
Depends on cost! If I had the option to buy a soarer before owning an SC300, then id start with the Soarer. But since you already have the platform, might be cheaper to swap it!
So with the link Ecu I see it allows the check engine light to stay off, but emissions wise what about reading monitors?
yeah you can throw proper emissions testing out the window with any sort of standalone...sadly
Did you Run the is300 trans ?
How do you deal with smog in CA? Thats the only thing holding me back from doing a swap like this or turboing the GE.
you wont be able to with any standalone ecu... So realistically, id have to non-op this car after two years. Or swap everything over to factory and try to get it smogged. lol

I think the difficulty will vary on what resources are available for you. For example, do you have access to a welder/fabricator who can build you an intercooler for a GTE swap? Otherwise, there are bolt in kits for a NA-T setup. But When done right, both a NA-T and the GTE swap will be badass!
Awesome video,Cant wait to swap in the future! I have an 03 will my factory harness work with the panic wire ecu and 1jz swap or did you have to custom pin outs/plugs or swap to the 1jzgte plugs etc.
yep, 02-05 will all work the same way! I didn't have to repin anything at all. The only wiring work i did was to extend the 2 water temp sensor wires about 13 inches!
We also have a kit specifically for using the turbo engine harness in your IS.

Stock W55, Same Auto Flywheel or 2jzGE Flywheel and clutch ? In process of figuring out the trans in my jzx100.
my car was originally manual w55 so its using a w55 flywheel and clutch setup.
Hello, my car is automatic, what harness should I have used? The one of the 1jzgte or the one of the 2jzge
they have an option for an auto platform as well! It will be the same procedure as my swap. The only different being you have to get the Auto option when you check out

Great video! How has your mpg been with the tuned 1jz? I'm thinking 28 mpg on the hwy could be possible with the smaller displacement and leaner fuel maps compared to a stock 2jzge.
haha I WISH i was getting more than 20mpg. But I average about 16. Its hard to stay out of boost.

did the link ecu come with a base map for the 1jz to start up and idle? dont wanna trailer my car to the tuner without buttoning things up to do a first start and have the car leak fluids and what not lol. appreciate the content.
No, the kit didn't come with a 1JZ startup map. It did come with a map for the NA2J though. That map will allow the 1J to idle but i wouldn't recommend driving far with it.

Kinda wondering. Since you do street in in California, how does smog checks work? I wanted to get mine BAR'd so I don't have to deal with stupid CARB laws in that sense.
Yeah that wont happen with this ECU. For every smog check, Id have to revert back to stock, and do the smog exam on the factory ECU.

what exactly did you change on the 1jzgte wiring harness so that it fits on the 300 wiring harness? do you have a chart or a listing?
I didn't use the 1J harness. I kept my is300 harness. The only thing I had to do was extend the water temperature sensor.

as long as your engine harness is not tampered, yes it will work 100%

Everything came out to about 5K without the price of the car.
How does the power feel compared to the 2JZGE?

I actually built my own at Greddy. There is no available "bolt on kit" for this car sadly...

I believe they do now, but when I first got it, it didn't. But base maps are easy to get! Its straight up plug and play. use the existing is300 engine harness and every plug will have a home except for the O2 sensors and some other bs plugs you don't need.

-With the Link ECU kit, you were basically able to retain your whole GE harness and the Link and Panic Jumper did the rest of the conversion?
-Were you still able to keep your immobilizer on the car no issues?
yep, stock GE ac compressor bolted right up with no issues at all.
yep, with the link/xcessive kit, everything is from the IS300.
yep, the car still turns on its own power with the factory key.
Where did you get your car tuned?
Congo Gaming car was tuned by Jason Oefelein of Link ECU. The dyno we used was a dyno-jet at Advanced Engine Dynamics

When you bought the 1j, did it come with the transmission? If not which one did you use?
It came with the automatic trans. I ended up just retaining my stock w55.
The bell housing was a direct fit to the 1j?
Barry Son w55 and w58 is the stock transmission for a lot of manual toyota cars along with the r154

Why not just use the Cx racing intercooler kit for a 2jz and just modify slightly?

Yep, Mauricio is right. I already had access to Greddy Performance products. The CX kit is a great kit to start off of as a base but it isn't a direct bolt on and you will need to modify a bit.
So are you saying Greddy has a kit?

i must have watched this video like 8-10 times since im getting ready to do this swap in my 02 is300. let me see if i understood you on this, your stock GE engine wire harness works just fine on the jzx171 engine along with the link ecu? if this is the case, ill be doing the same thing as you along with converting my auto to manual swap. in short from your video, youre saying the 02 GE engine wire harness works with teh jzx110/171 enigne, correct?

Correct, Im using my stock IS300 engine harness on the 171 engine, with LINK ECU. What you're assuming is 100% correct. The only difference is you will need to buy the AUTO version of the ECU from Excessive Manufacturing. And Mark Panic can assist you with that.

yep, Im using the factory w55 for now. I will be eventually swapping to a CD009, but int he meanwhile, 300whp wont be doing much damage to the stock trans.
