The bassist is Pino Palladino, one of the world's most renowned session players. He's played with The Who, Gary Numan, D'Angelo, Paul Young, Elton John, John Mayer, Jeff Beck, Tears for Fears, and many, many others. He's a bass playing god.
@Ian Norton you might want to grab some headphones and take another listen there bud. 😂 This is on a fretless, and almost all the notes you hear in this song, are pino. If you can grab a fretless, and play even close to this, good on ya. 👍
@Ian Norton LOL. When you become the world's greatest bassist and can transform a lame studio track into something like this, we'd all love to hear it.
Dad, why is my sister named Rose? Because your mother loves Roses, son. Thanks, dad. You’re welcome, Pino Palladino Playing Bass On Nine Inch Nails - Sanctified (VEVO Presents).
Pino Palladino really added SO MUCH to this song. The man is a beast! and makes it work and fits so well, better than the original song. best part is, once you hear it, His bass line stays stuck in your head for awhile. the smallest fill adds so much to this song.
Essentially this is Sanctified, Closer and Sunspots mega-mix mash-up. It suggests that Trent was inspired by the same pool of feelings and experiences when writing all those three songs. It makes sense if you pay attention to the lyrics.
I used to dance to this by myself at 4am in the dark inside my apartment every day. Back in the day... my neighbors upstairs said this song helped their baby sleep well. Wow, thank you for this beat, even today!
Not just his harmonics and everything else lush he's doing in this song, but oh my gosh that octave slide Pino does around 2:29 is completely delicious.
Seeing Pino play with NIN in several of these live shows has completely overwhelmed me in how fucking badass he is, that fretless groove i never figured would add such character to this song, but holy hell i dont think anybody else could have delivered it with his taste. But particularly this song, i love this song so much and ive probably played this video like 50 times just in the past week. This song is also sexy lol
This live is something above the perfection.. Everything fits perfectly, the lights, the beats the awesome bass line, trent coming through the stage and dancing, synthetizers, chorus kicks perfectly. One of the best live I ve ever seen. Hope to have the chance to see again NIN for the 3rd time
Trent Reznor and his team are simply amazing, Trent is the true genius song writer of all time, his music is just on another level, it's from other dimension, literally. Who else is waiting for the new album first single release this year? Will there be sounds like in the Gone Girl OST? That'd be fantastic and as usual in NIN's work very ahead at it time.
I love this version with Pino Palladino on bass and Sharlotte and Lisa on background vocals. The remixed "Running Version" this past year was great but the Tension Tour's Pino version is my favorite. 🖤🤘🏼
I can't enough of the bass guitar in this performance. Wish I could find a studio recording of this, but in the rehearsal version's bass is different. At lest this is a decent quality recording.
It was shot at Staples Center in HD for the BluRay release that we have yet to see...There was this giant camera on a boom crane over the crowd, it was unreal.
Kris Occhipinti because every time he tours - even on same tour- he hires different musicians depending on the hemisphere of each half of the tour.. hence every song is never played the same twice .. ever
It was recorded in high def intended for a blue ray DVD release. EVERY BIT OF THIS SHOW was high quality top notch. THe man spared no expense on this production. I'm just lucky we were there.
Great tune but Pino on bass is killer. This man is out of this planet, his basslines and how this bass sounds... Some brain and fingers . Oh maaaaaan.... Greatest bass player ever for me
To paraphrase an awesome quote - perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. Stripping the song down let that bass player shine.
Like a slow burning candle shining through the darkness which overshadows the entirety of this eerie piece. Blending elements of Techno with more traditional Rock rhythms, "Sanctified" rides a pulsating electrobeat as an elegant bassline latches on to it's energy & matches it beat for beat. Trent Reznor spins a tale of a destructive relationship which climaxes with a chilling segueway into the self destructive "Something I Can Never Have".
Sounds better on the album. Because on the album it sounds like Seinfeld. Or should i say Seinfeld sounds like sanctified since pretty hate machine came out first
Want to get sick ? Take a look at the list of people in the rock and roll HoF that Trent is not a member of yet . I mean Steve fucking Miller got on this year !! If you tell me that Steve Miller is more talented , influential or loved more then Trent then you have officially lost it . Guys a Genius . The fact that 25 years go by and I still get goosebumps is all the proof you need . This is my favorite one of his 100s of remixes
Wow. I was praying they'd play this live, and it was the first song of the encore. FUCKING ROCKS. Love those backup singers on this track. You can hear some of Sunspots near the end if you listen closely.
This magnificent live version of Sanctified (Vevo Presents) by Nine Inch Nails takes me on a fun music trip to music nostalgia lane when I was around 16 or 17 years old and originally discovering the cd version of this song. This live version of Sanctified lights up the original music collection of Sanctified in an exciting and lively way.
I scrolled down and didn't see any one in the band is the most underrated player in history so , I go first , NIN is the most underrated band in history and they really never got their dues and the radio wont play them . and they are having to fly under the radar because good music doesn't get played . Pino is the most underated bass player on earth too . there that should just about do it ! thank you I feel better now .
I've been addicted to this version ever since I heard it, I really wish I had seen it in person. Every part of it is perfection, from the bass to the vocals to the synths. The electricity! Once again I feel like I need to go take a shower, phew...Thanks for getting me all hot and bothered for 25 years T Rez...
Can't believe I'm only discovering this for the first time now. This is so great. Kind of reminds me of some of Depeche Mode's live versions of songs where they'd rearrange them a bit to give them a more modern feel.
Saw them in Seattle a few weeks ago. Pino is definitely an unusual choice for the band, but an incredible bassist. Brought some great new life into the old material for sure.
This was a mindblowing performance from copy of a all the way to hurt. I've never been able to watch a concert fully through completely entertained on video like I did last night with this set.
+Jozsef Kele HOLY FUCK! Did we just become best friends?!?1 I fucking agree so hard. The Ringfinger ending reinterpreted and reconstructed would be so fucking amazing. And That's what I get with more layers of awesome holy fuck man
RINGFINGER IS WITHOUT A DOUBT MY FAVE NIN song!!! I am & have always been a huge techno fanatic, & randomly over the yrs I've searched different DJ sets for a good techno mix of ringfinger, I'm very surprised there are not more DJ's using that song Because of its techno origin
Yeah bb, thats what an MONSTROUS pro FUNKY bass playe brings out. Pino, as one of them if not the best one, can make the heaviest Ministry song sound sexy as hell!

@Ian Norton u don't play bass,right?
I was wondering who he was... He is an absolute phenom! he's a giant too, makes Trent look like dwarf. 🤣
@Ian Norton LOL. When you become the world's greatest bassist and can transform a lame studio track into something like this, we'd all love to hear it.
@Ian Norton are you sure? Pino is one of the best
you cant really compare
I played this VERY LOUD on my stereo just 9 months before and now all my neighbors have kids...
Best. Comment. 🤣👌 we shall call it the Reznor effect....FUCK YES, LITERALLY!!!!!!
He came inside.
You, Sir conjured from me an authentic, genuine, real life Laugh Out Loud.
Mute Rales 😂
*#lolz*
Dad, why is my sister named Rose?
Because your mother loves Roses, son.
Thanks, dad.
You’re welcome, Pino Palladino Playing Bass On Nine Inch Nails - Sanctified (VEVO Presents).
Youre disowned son
Wow I have never heard of this rendition before. Definitely had my brain receptors blasting on all cylinders! So mesmerizing in hypnotic.
When your cousin introduced you as his brother to a baddie, and she knew y'alls dad was a pastor, so you behaved like a gentleman🏰
I love the addition of the Sunspots synth part at 4:20... that song is so under appreciated, imo
i dont believe there is a single nin fan that doesnt love sunspots
I thought I was having a de ja vous
I knew I recognised it
Sunspots, cast a glare, in my eyes!
This is what makes Nine Inch Nails rise above the best! Uhhhhhh
I was in Vancouver for the Tension 2013 tour. When the crowd realized it was a Sanctified version everyone lost it what a great memory
That bass tho! 🤘🤘🤘
My goodness yes...I LOVE it..
The legendary Pino Palladino. My jaw dropped when I saw him standing there. Amazing.
It's like Sriracha sprinkled with meth...
Addictive and makes everything better
THE FRETLESS #TONYFRANKLIN
@@thomaszollars4862 it's Pino

That high pitched vocal part that loops every two bars from 4:16 is from Discipline as well
@@JamieHoughton texture guys, it's the textureeee 😍😍😍
NIN definitely reminds me of Madonna...in mind. She always reinterprets her songs live.
Between Pino's incredible bass groove, the backup singers, and the lead from Sunspots, this rendition is pretty amazing
Yup, the sunspots lead synth. . so awesome for them to tease that in there.
Trust in Trent to give an old timer new legs, incredible arrangement.
I actually thought the backing sing sounded like the lady who used to back simple minds
Possibly the best performance of sanctified I have seen. NIN is amazing live.
Pino makes it tho
This is fantastic!
Pure Sex right there
What U2 should have been.
Me too
I keep coming back to this video. One of my favourite songs. Pino on bass is ridiculous. This almost sounds like a Mick Karn Japan line
Adding Lisa and Sharlotte during that tour took his songs to a level I didn't think possible. So dope...
he married R&B jazz and Nine Inch Nails in this entire presentation. its genius
Those woman really added a touch of salt to this already sultry song, perfection
Lisa is the REAL QUEEN.
Amazing
I used to dance to this by myself at 4am in the dark inside my apartment every day. Back in the day... my neighbors upstairs said this song helped their baby sleep well. Wow, thank you for this beat, even today!
Dancing by myself to this right now on my deck!
I’m dancing with you even if it’s 5 years late 🙃
it’s true, i was the baby
Trent took a timeless classic and gave it new life again here. Mind = blown
Pino Palladino re-invented this song.
Not just his harmonics and everything else lush he's doing in this song, but oh my gosh that octave slide Pino does around 2:29 is completely delicious.
Trent is insane. I can't even stand it. Everything he does is so amazing!
Those dance moves are literally hypnotic
One of the most respected leads in music. Genius mentality
best version of the song
all because of Pino Palladino

100%!!!!!!
This version is God tier. I wish they would release it. Had the honor of seeing it live a few days ago ❤️
Lucky you
I love the backup singers.
This is the best live version. God mode activated indeed.
It is though
It's better to serve in heaven
Then burn in hell
Going to this concert was the best (and most expensive [and worth it]) bass lesson I ever had. Pino is the best living bass player.
Love the soulful backup vocals. The groove after the first chorus is fucking unreal.
Love the Sunspots outro in this version, NIN live is so amazing.
NIN is one of the only bands that I seek out the live versions over the album recordings
That bassline will change your life. That is the nastiest funkiest thing I’ve ever heard.
I have only two words:
1. Pino
2. Palladino
Yup. He's the best.
Pompino
Pino Palla-fuckin'-Dino
He was alright with the bass
Noob noob gets it
UA-cam needs a "Love" button for something like this
Pino on bass and those amazing background vocalists really took this song somewhere else!! Trent is a fucking genius!!
I love when they bring in sunspots at the end. The live shows are always amazing but this tour was probably the one I had the most fun at.
I need this version on spotify so bad 😭
I always wondered if that bass part was real or synth because it sounded too perfect, and now I know it's just a legend on a fretless.
amazing bass line ... Pino is an awesome magician ...
I love this version with Pino Palladino on bass and Sharlotte and Lisa on background vocals. The remixed "Running Version" this past year was great but the Tension Tour's Pino version is my favorite. 🖤🤘🏼
Those ladies on vocals are the icing on cake
When you love the original but the live version makes you realise the potential of the artist 💜💜💜💜💛

I’m waiting for the day this video hits a million views…
Hopefully we'll get there before the decade is up
We still have till the end of the year now 😅😉

I don't see a lot of people yelling at each other in the comments. Is that what it took? This amazing song?

This is the tastiest tasty taste my ears have ever heard. So much taste. So much flavor. Taste it.
You know the whole band has a blast playing this music live.
i did ! glad u could join the performance :)
Great tune but Pino on bass is killer. This man is out of this planet, his basslines and how this bass sounds... Some brain and fingers . Oh maaaaaan.... Greatest bass player ever for me
This feels like it was done on another alien planet, especially how the back ground singers glide in through the smoke... gorgeousness.
Jazzy. Reznor is THE most prolific electronica artist of all time...never stops evolving or adapting. Artistic genius.
Pino Palladino's bass magic elevated this song to a higher dimension.
Oh wow... I didn't know this existed. My favourite NiN song with my favourite bass player. This is amazing.
Pino Palladino nailed this track. Amazing bass line, on amazing song.
Trent Sexnor.
