Eleanor & Franklin (1976) - ABC: Eleanor and Mlle Souvestre

Mackenzie Phillips takes some time off from playing Julie Cooper on "One Day at a Time" to portray the young Eleanor Roosevelt in this 1976 TV adaptation of Joseph Lash's biography of the Roosevelts. Veteran character actress Lilia Skala plays Mlle Marie Souvestre who ran a girl's boarding school in 19th century England, and helped to shape the character of the future First Lady.

Mlle. Souvestre was Eleanor's biggest role model and friend as her mother and grandmother were very cold toward her.

This movie was so formative for me, because my own wretched mother dressed me in the same wretched childish manner well beyond the suitable age.

Wow! I watched this first-run! Didn't remember Phillips was in it! (I wasn't a "One Day At A Time" viewer!) I said then and I say now she was perfectly cast!

@VJTOMYAZ no, actually she is Austrian actress Lilia Skala. She appeared as the Mother Superior in LILIES OF THE FIELD with Sidney Poitier.
