    Good to know Tasty is doing their part. As a kid that goes shopping every week, tote bags are my life. Believe it or not my whole family never uses plastic bags or containers for the last 2 years. We would shop at the bulk areas using reusable containers, buy at farm markets (not supermarkets), plant our own vegetables (we plant at our backyard cuz in front of our house, we have our giant rectangle pool), use reusable straws and more! I appreciate this video. You're doing an awesome job and I commend you for it. That being said, 80% of carbon emissions are being produced by a small handful of companies. The best way to save the environment is to rally against them and at least attempt to get money OUT of politics. Public servants were never intended to be millionaires yet the vast majority are.
    It's not cool that both sides accept billions each year in "lobbying" dollars from the exact same corporations because that means they don't work for the general public anymore. If we solve this one single issue it will give power back to the people and allow us to save the environment, our crumbling infrastructure, healthcare, and the majority of the rest of the problems we are facing.

  • @Jeremy-vu3ef
    @Jeremy-vu3ef 5 років тому +1

    I really like that you acknowledge that not everyone can go zero waste, not only is it more expensive but it's also a lot of work and not everyone can do that, either because they don't have the time or bc they're disabled. I love zero waste videos and environmentalism but there is a big tendency to leave disabled people out of this conversation. A lot of us need plastic straws or utensils. Maybe we can't lift drinks without spilling them, maybe we can't wash the dishes because the sound and feel makes us throw up. And zero waste is a lot of work and effort and energy that some ppl don't have. So yeah, I'm glad it was acknowledged tho :D

    Thank u for doing this! I am really into zero waste but I never really got into it. Although this inspired me to create a kit for going out, with tupperware, a mesh produce bag, a bulk bin bag, silverware, small mason jar, a cloth thingy, and a reusable water bottle. Surprisingly that all fits pretty well in a regular bag. I really hope in the next few years zero waste and things like that become more popular.

    I’m a near 0 waster. One tip for anyone who may find it helpful. When I buy lemons for lemonade or another recipe, I now use a peeler to take the rind from it, let them steep in vodka to make lemon extract, then I take the part left over and set them in vinegar for a few weeks, filter them off then mix with water for a home cleaner. Then compost the lemon rinds (if you can)
    I also now bring tote bags for all shopping not just food.

    I love bringing sustainability to this channel. I try to live low waste as well. I think it'd be a really good idea to make the content more inclusive to diverse populations and low income folks. ZW is very much a hobby right now online, and it's very much expensive and on many channels, about an aesthetic. If you're passionate about this, and I think you are, show people how to reuse and repurpose kitchen materials as well as using food scraps. Have BIPOC and marginalized communities take part in this channel. Amplify voice in other parts of the globe that are doing low waste in a completely different way. It's hard to make ZW content with just another white girl as the face of it, and when you can pretty much afford whatever you want for the videos.

  • @KittieKatGrl
    @KittieKatGrl 5 років тому +1

    I feel the need to respond to your comment at 0:47 (not as concerned with food waste as you are with plastic bc food waste is organic & compostable)
    I am a senior at OWU majoring in biochemistry & a few days ago i enrolled in a class called Zero Waste Methods- Food Waste/Composting. It's exactly what it sounds like. Food waste consists of 22% of what goes into landfills in America (or 39 million tons anually). Nobody really composts & the gas produced from food waste, methane, is FAR more hazardous than carbon dioxide (having taken two semesters of organic chemistry +labs, I can confirm this. I'll only go into it if someone wants to know). You didnt do anything wrong but I believe that this wouldve been a good place to address this massive problem bc people think that it just rots away & is fine.
    If you're like me & want to know how you can help:
    1. Reduce the amount of food you buy but dont eat. To help, consider leaving a shelf in your fridge dedicated to food that is close to expiring so you know to eat/use it soon.
    2. Eat leftovers!
    3. Be conscious about your portions
    4. Best things you can do is donate food to the hungry (say, some bananas or canned food that you have but dont need), or, if you have animals, BEST thing to do is feed your food scraps to them
    5. collect your food waste & bring it to a composting facility.
    Your effort will make an impact. If you do (or even try to do) any of these things then know that I love you with all of my heart & you're making the world a better place

    Well probably the most baffling thing about this video is the fact that you speak of not letting things go to waste... But when you cut the vegetables you throw / put in that bin a good part of them. For instance the red bellpeper... That was like 1/4 of it... I can agree that letting things go to waste is a bad thing. But the same can be said about cutting produce just for the big chunks that look appealing.

    You should especially wash organic vegetables because they're often fertilized with manure. I don't save vegetables for vegetable stock but I do save bones in the freezer to make bone broth. My veggie waste goes in the compost bin to become fertilizer for more veggies.

    Fantastically informative video!! More videos like this please!! Also I live in Egypt where as you mentioned it is quite difficult to live anything close to zero waste, but there is a growing community of zero wasters who are trying to find alternatives within Egypt. Could you please make another video about composting, perhaps more detailed, different ways of doing it ? We have no compost bins here!

    If you see weird fruit or vegetables (misshapen, conjoined, etc) please buy them. They often get thrown out because people skip past them thinking there is something wrong with them when there isn't. It's a great way to keep wastage down.

    NOTE TO EVERYONE INTERESTED IN SAVING FOOD WASTE: look into “Imperfect Produce”
    It is a subscription service that brings you organic produce to your door that would be wasted otherwise. They are the “reject” fruits and vegetables that stores won’t buy due to cosmetic blemishes. I’ve been using this service for a few weeks, and honestly the majority looks like produce you could get in the store. It’s very affordable, you prevent food waste and it’s convenient. They also accept snap benefits to make it more accessible to everyone. BONUS: you choose the veggies and fruit you want each week, it’s not random

    When I think of zero waste cooking I think of what I can change in my cooking to help the planet. Like tin foil. Made the swap to use silicone liners..you can use the liners to cover pans too! Simple fix that saves so much stuff out of the ozone. Silicone lives for years and years so can be passed down or gifted to children.

      @@donit. veganism doesn't make people unhealthy. Doing it WRONG will make you unhealthy, the same as with every other diet. If you're a carnivore that only eats candies, does that make meat eating diet unhealthy? NO. It's the person' decision, not the diet's.
      Same goes here. You should do a research about veganism before you just tell everyone how bad it is...
      And I don't mean watching people say what they think about it. I mean look it up online, find facts, how it helps the environment, what vegans eat, athletes that are vegan... then you'll get a real perspective.
