This is wasteful unless you are rich, live in a great year round climate or your diet is primarily beans. Maybe all three factors are at play here? The husband really needs a steak though. He looks lifeless and depressed. As long as its a boneless steak, there is no waste.
I think the main point however is that they recycle and compost. Most people just throw away.

I live in Sacramento and that appeared to be in my neighborhood right next to the American river. The co-op is a 30min drive from here
It’s easy to try, I always have my reusable cup, container and bag everywhere I go, and It’s so easy to reduce that kind of garbage
You can do it anywhere. Have been doing it for years, just buy more fresh stuff in your own containers, use the solid soap bars and a shampoo, DIY yr. own toothpaste (or just use baking soda)... Lots of tutorials online. Will save you money too.
Where are these zero packaging food stores? There is not one in my whole city.

Practically it's not possible for most people( cause firstly finding a shop like that is rare and buying jars and stuff is expensive for some) but we can still try to create " less waste" like we can less start using ur own cloth bags instead of multiple plastic ones and also reuse the plastic containers you get from maybe purchasing a product from the store etc and it's gonna really work. Idk it's just my suggestion. Have a nice day or night💜

I can’t go an hour without *being* trash!
It is important to acknowledge that this family is capable of living this way because they have enough space/live in the right climate to grow their own food AND that it is really the co-op being open to you bringing your own containers that allows them to live this way. There are no stores like this in my area (and I assume many areas in the US), so it would not be possible for most people to make this drastic of a change. I hope in the future we will have more stores that encourage waste-free purchases.
I don't have stores like that I my area. I love the planet though so I still took on a plant based diet and I buy as many biodegradable products that I can afford online. Even small changes count.
