      Agreed, my family and I try to recycle everything possible, and we go for the more sustainable option whenever possible, but becoming zero-waste isnt going to work with my lifestyle and my current health. We recieve medications, prescription medications, that keep us alive, and they don't do that crap "package free", so I can at least recycle those containers that the medicines come in once they are emptied and rinsed out. And another thing is, I can't always carry a reusable drinking bottle, but I always make sure that I recycle my one-use bottles and cans correctly. So therefore, it is not causing as much of a waste if it is done correctly, meaning recycled correctly. So basically I can agree that even if millions of people would just be more concious of the waste they create, and be more concious of what they put to landfill that wouldn't need to actually go there, the better this life could actually be.

      @@Royalsprincess1 That's a very good start!! :) Of course, zero waste does not literally mean zero waste. A lot of people have a misconception, therefore becoming too afraid to even try it. But zero waste is actually about making as little waste as possible. And the limit for each people is different, but if everyone would just try, it will make a world of a difference :)

    I'm surprised every time composting seems to be not a big thing in the US. I live in Germany and most areas have a green or brown bin for composting waste only. The garbage collectors bring the waste to huge composting companies where they make bio gas. The bio gas is then used for energy production or heating. All the remaining composted material goes to farmlands as a natural fertilizer

    • @tf9223
      @tf9223 4 роки тому +108

      It is unfortunately not at all common in the US. A majority of places don’t offer public composting options let alone public recycling services. If people want to compost they do so for personal gardens or, as mentioned in the video, for farmers market gardens. It would be great if we could adopt some of those behaviors.

    "They all come packaged in single-use plastic which isn't recyclable really anywhere."
    It's when I watch videos like this that I realise how lucky I am to live in Sweden. We have a law where companies have to take responsibility for their packaging - meaning that they cover the cost of recycling them, and must have the recycling instructions on the packaging itself.
    Household waste is separated into plastic packaging, paper packaging, cardboard, newspaper, colored glass, clear glass, metal, compost and "miscellaneous waste".
    All of these are recycled into new packaging, except the compost (which is made into natural gas that can then be used for fuel - for example for most city buses), and the misc. (which is incinerated for energy recycling).

    • @turkeyphant

      It's not economically recyclable. i.e. it's either being sent abroad where it's probably incinerated or it's using more energy/fossil fuels to recycle than incinerating.

      nicole but she’s known for the trash jar method (and preaching it), but does it really count when you just get rid of the waste at the store you buy at just soYOU don’t end up with the waste at YOUR home/jar ???... and there were more than one rumors in the past that her (then young) business is getting rid of the (Asia wholesale) packaging before the products were presented to the customers.... yes people are very critical and judgmental with her since she’s picturing herself in such a role model position.... for example: it would have been nice to see her explaining to search for stickerless options with the avocado ... that would have been a great tip, and I have seen other ZWer teach that since there’s always some products that already lack the sticker 🤷‍♀️
