I watched your video “a message to game developers” and checked your channel to see the rest of your content, and it’s actually such high quality! You’re hitting 10k in no time! You earned a sub! :) 🦆
This video reminds me of when I tried to make a fps on unity with no coding and writing experience on my crappy laptop when i was 12. It was just a bunch of unity's pre made assets and code crammed together with a 3-D model of Mario and a blob bean thingy that was meant to be a gun. It's crazy to think how much I've improved since then. I also gotta say that your old pixel art still holds up. Fire vid too btw
That stuff about dialogue is so real. I was doing a game jam and decided to add dialogue, and SEVERELY underestimated how hard it would be. I got like a single conversation working and then gave up and never finished the jam.
johnny upgrade has the same general concept but it seems like it focuses on upgrades between runs and exploration more than the traditional rogue like elements
wdym your humor is bad? I love your humor. I tried ignoring this video at first because of I didn't wanna watch any devlogs rn, but youtube kept showing this to me and now I regret that I didn't click on the video sooner.
The spot at about 5:20 when you're talking about not knowing what to show on screen if you don't have footage is so insanely real, even with the stuff i record, I still struggle to do this even though i feel like i recorded so much b-roll looool. Great video!!
I literally had a similar idea where you are a wizard with there's a clock ticking down and taking damage would decrease that time even more. The prototype is still on my itch. It's so funny how multiple people can have the same base idea and do different implementations. Great video btw ✨
Some video games have levels that do something similar. I may be thinking of Zelda phantom hourglass but it’s still a cool concept for an entire game and not just a level here and there
That's a really good game concept! Came across the video today because I recently got into game development myself. You’re really good with language, and your videos are inspiring. Looking forward to seeing where this channel goes!
Every creator always feels embarrassed when watching old videos cos the knowledge they have now is just much greater than their first few vids but as someone watching from a 3rd person perspective it actually looks pretty good. Sure the voice does sound gloomy but that just comes from a lack of confidence/being comfortable when a camera is on. If you're consistent enough, after a few months you're notice a difference from when you first started like how you are now. The video itself was actually pretty informative and the editing without seeing your sub count would make me think you're a big youtuber in the game dev space
This is so cool. I have always wanted to make a game that kinda of a similar idea. I've wanted to act on it as start developing but its been really hard to start!
Love the concept for the game. I just checked out of interest and I currently have 453.8 hours spent in Aseprite... I recently participated in a game jam (the first game I've every shared) and I spent a lot of hours on that game! I think the majority of that time has just been learning and practicing pixel art though tbh
I always thought about doing this. Make a few devlog videos and upload them when i make enough and have momentum to work on my prohect consistantly... i just need equipment to record lol
The “ Time Clock “ idea is actually amazing… you should also make a mechanic that allows you to use time as a currency to buy shop items/upgrades so the risk/reward makes things intense 🤔 … You should watch the movie “ In Time “ with Justin Timberlake, might spark some more creative ideas 😛
It's funny cuz a year and a half ago I tried making devlogs on youtube but couldn't develop my game idea far enough to actually make any solid progress Seeing stuff like this kinda grounds me in a way, helping me remember that almost everybody else trying to make games is going through similar trials As of January I've been working on an entirely new project idea, and it actually has direction, so I'm staying optimistic :) I hope your projects find their footing as well 👍👍
Your game idea sounds really cool! After reading some comments, though, it seems like the game mechanic may not be all that unique, but the way in which you incorporate it is probably what matters most. What is the setting? Who are you as the player? Why is it that your life keeps getting reset after a matter of time? What is the background history of this world that revolves so deeply around time and its manipulation? Answering these questions may be what sets your game apart from other games with similar mechanics.
This is a very cool idea! you should definitely remake it or make something with a similar game mechanic, I feel like it would make a pretty fun game. I also wanna see how the world would turn out and the story behind it.
Your game idea is already in the legend of zelda majoras mask. They have a 3 day night time period, and you had to complete events to triger other events to happen later in the 3 days.
Love the blue dude. That game idea was cool. I think I've heard it atleast once before tho but it's not the most common idea so definetly go for it! And keep the look of that game it was pretty looking! Like the esthetics the blue dude needs to be the main character.
Love the self-roast lmao, the first devlogs I did for Lighthoof were made a year before I released any, and I’m sure they’re just *terrible* (I cannot look)
Amazing video! I actually have just TONS of games that I haven't finished because of what you mentioned at the end. When starting out it's hard to understand the scope of projects because you simply have no experience working with them yet. And the text box part was extremely relatable. I remember the first time I got mine to work and I thought "oh lord that was JUST the textbox" lol.
The conecpt is incredible, but one factor that might have affect your developmente maybe was the fact that you didn't prototyped the ideia, the concetp of making the life of you MC be time itself is amazing, but you just jumped the first part of development where you see if your ideia really functions and how the elements in the gameplay work together. If you continue with this idea, in my humble opinion a prototype ,with just the basic elements of the game, would be a good first step.
6:00 I feel so strongly about this, I simply must say it. AI art COULD be used as just placeholders or visual idea generators, I’m sure that nobody would be against it if they know your intention behind doing so.
Actually this video represents me in a way or another I'm working on a 2d rpg (similar to undertale) for a GODDAMN year now and all i did is a 4 directional movement system So yeah i wish if i had that time again to waist it on improving my skills
The idea of the game is actually really cool and reminds me of the rift from hypixel skyblock (it is not the main part of the game) you get a certain amount of time to be there and when you get hit you lose time and when your time runs out you get kicked out and you can get upgrades inside to get more time and it really reminds me of the idea of your game
Hey there, I am a relatively new game developer and wanted to mention that I loved the video! I also have a game in the works with heavy inspiration from Slay the Spire as well. Good luck with your creative endeavors, I hope to see more of your work.
I still have remnants of my old PyGame project that I was adamant was going to be the next big thing when I was done. I was 17 at the time, I'm 30 this year. I open the folder now and again just to have a giggle at how delusional my old self was. The current game I'm working on is the one - I'm not delusional this time, I promise 🙃
You might consider playing Outer Wilds! I can't tell you much about it, as it's a very knowledge based game, but its basic gameplay loop is very similar to what you described at the beginning.
I'm truly inspired by your content; each video resonates deeply. Your game's concept also strikes a chord with me, reminiscent of my own creation, Time Rush! on my Itch page
lotta truth in this vid, especially 10:05 a lot of the time u can severely underestimate how much time and effort is needed and it's discouraging when u add that project to the list of unfinished work but u improve w/ each new project and eventually you'll land on something that sticks
being an artist is being a good liar: don't show the backstage, don't show under the carpet, don't show the spaghetti, just let people be fooled and enjoy it, in a good way
1:26 once upon a time, I found a weird ass steamgame doomscrolling that basically does this. It's called: 600Seconds ~The Deep Church~. I have not played it yet (I've been tempted a few times to notetake n play), I want to torture someone with it though, but the moment I saw the anime chick with the flamethrower I couldn't help myself and it's collected dust in the steam library. It's entire concept from what I can tell is a level you have 600 seconds to play in, at which time's end you go through a stat check corridor of enemies or something. I love the concept of building small pathways through a forest trail in terms of game design of which lead to their own branches but never a different tree, but this game owns that and just says 'engulf yourself in this timed combat puzzle'. Other games do this untimed like Tactical Nexus (the action economy is your own mind), but in terms of your typical 'video game' there's not much except in vague resemblance to this idea, or it exists but in roguelike vabrado which steals away the bulk of the charm unless you already love the game enough to agonize over seeded runs, which contradicts the point of the roguelike elements.
The idea rocks, I think it could be turned into a pretty cool game. It might also benefit from something like the heat system in Hades which introduces new challenges after your first run completion. Just something to allow it to have a postgame yk?
Guys I am making a game. I am adding splash texts into that game like minecraft. Suggest me some cool splash texts. ( your suggessions will be added to the game )

This is such a cool concept but there is a mini version of it on cool math games called Johnny upgrade.
johnny upgrade has the same general concept but it seems like it focuses on upgrades between runs and exploration more than the traditional rogue like elements
