This had me ugly crying. It's very inspirational, and I really needed it rn.
Was feeling a little inspired about half way or so, but thinking "It'll be extra hard for me because I'm trying to make my own engine", and almost if on que, you mention how you used your own engine, and I broke into tears.
Yesterday(technically 2 days ago, past midnight) I had my hearing with a judge for disability. Part of that, the strategist part of me broke, as I had to actually face the reality that I need help and can't get by in traditional pathways. Having to face that what was being said is actually evidence of my ability, and not just a clever way to get some starting cash. It hurt, far more than I could have expected.
Hanging out virtually with a game dev friend, and this video, I think are reigniting my flame. So, thank you so much.

not sure if you've ever heard of BattleBit, but it's really popular lately; a success story of a game in the making for 6/7 years, beating all its competitors and grossing tens of millions, despite being a game dev studio of 3 people. these people initially released the game, learned that it wasn't fun, then spent YEARS perfecting it until it was truly ready for release. it paid off massively
looking at your initial game, your dreams of a MMORPG and the time (3 years) you invested into it, don't you worry that your 'dream game' could've been more than a failed project? with your further gained knowledge, you could start anew, with modern graphics and smoother animations. you could even pickup where you left off and start 'upgrading' the game, bit by bit. I don't know, I just see this cool guy with a simple goal which fell apart. I wish you could've done it

It's awesome that you want to start game development! If you have even a bad laptop you can begin your adventure (although it'll be frustrating) with coding and designing! If you don't have a laptop then you could try making a board game, i know it sounds a bit crazy but you can get help from art teachers at school and use card and the printers there to make a gameboard/characters/cards! Although I know you probably want to make a video game, if you start with a board game you'll find whether your true passion is the design/art of how it looks, or the functions of how your game works and the way different things may interact with eachother. Finally if you do computing/IT at your school then they'll likely have computers that can run python which is a simple programming language (they may even teach it to you the begginings in later years) so you can start learning to code so you have some experience when you eventually come to starting game development when you're older. Basically what I'm saying is speak to computing teachers/art teachers and start trying to make a game, you might find they help you start a club where you can better use the resources available, and have other people join in and help you with it!
Good luck, and it can get difficult, just stick at it!

    Huge Crongrats!
I loved Equilinox, and love the progress on Homegrown so far.
However I would love to play Socuwan one day, Maybe not actually „play“ it but you know, just checking it out. Afterall I saw most of your devlog videos on it, and just wanna try it out myself one day, it’s like nostalgia at that that point.

Ah the good old Socuwan days. I remember that I was kind of dissapointed back then because you started working on Equilinox. But in hindsight it was the better choice to work on a game with a smaller scope. Congratulations on 10 years!

Been subscribed since January 2015! Have you ever considered returning to the Socuwan idea, but not as an MMO? A singleplayer/co-op game in the Socuwan world would be pretty interesting, provided the story was good. Keep up the good work!

When I heard and saw of your game Equilinox in this video, I felt a weird familiarity with it but couldn't quite put my finger on why I felt like this since I thought I had never seen your game before. But these movements of your character model at 12:00 made me realize that I have seen videos about your game before and that I enjoyed them a lot! It may not have been your intention but the way you made your game characters move is very iconic, satisfying and very recognizable. You have my sub.
I hope you have the best of health and a lot of motivation in the future!

I cannot recall how I found your channel, but I was very interested in your old LWJGL tutorial series. Your visuals and explanations were incredibly helpful, absolutely every line of code was clear. With a lot of programming and some for-fun game dev under my belt I was drawn into what's going on under the hood, and figured I'll try to make my own engine. Absolutely clueless. One of the best mistakes of my life, even though that hasn't really resulted in anything, I've gotten so much joy out of graphics programming, and the general knowledge of how 3D programming works has been invaluable. To this day I follow your content with endless curiosity to see what kinds of techniques you implement, whether it's cool engine mechanics or optimization, or some non-programming tasks. Here's to another 10!

What you might not realize is that although you might not be the biggest UA-camr out there but there probably are no passionate indie game developers who don't know your content. I would even go so far and say that for most of them, including me, you are a Big inspiration. You inspired countless people to try game dev (and still are inspiring)! Some of them were even successful!

damn. Damn! I really does feel like I've been a part of this journey the whole time, even though uh. I've never actually purchased a game >.>
You were one of my strongest early inspirations regarding game development and one of the first gamedev channels I would actually routinely look up by name before I started actually subscribing to things. I haven't made anything in a long while, but I'm about the age at which you started Socuwan, so. This video is providing me with a shocking amount of perspective!
Also, how cool is it that you've pushed through and kept at it through all of the difficulties (I mean, seriously, starting with a frickin MMO is some hilarious clout you have, permanently, in the community) because you now actually know SO much about game development!
I hope to learn from your lessons, too!

Thanks for this video. As someone who started with game dev "seriously" about 4 years ago, it's already been a journey - but it's hard sometimes to realize that it's only just begun and there's still plenty of time left to achieve the indie dev goal. This video is good for putting in perspective how it really is just a ride, and even working on something for 3-5 years and it not working out doesn't mean that it's "over".

Whenever I feel down I can always return to your channel. So inspiring, so motivating. I also got into making game dev videos and I enjoy it a lot. Equilinox is such an amazing game, I just love how all the animals are animated. I couldn’t help but noticing that both equilinox and homegrown are nature related, almost like they are connected. I had a tumor in my spine some time ago, couldn’t walk, scary as hell, your example helped me as well. Recovered after an operation just fine. Hopefully it won’t return. Congrats and good luck!

There was no algorithm and you didn't have to come up with seemingly nefarious plans on how you were going to trick it, you just shared stuff and people who liked it found it. I did the same thing back then and it was so pure.
