I remember as a child, my mother once told me “If somebody threatens to kill you if you scream, scream.” Listening to stories like this makes me realise how right she was. Murderers never let you go, so even if it means getting hurt or being potentially killed, never give up on that small window of time to cry out for help. There are worse things than death.

We taught our kids to fight right where they are, hit the ground with all their weight if that's all they can do. NEVER get taken away in a car. I would rather be killed where I stand than days/weeks/years later after the hell someone has planned.

Yeah and also i heard this from somewhere that if the attacker doesn't wear a mask or something that covers their identity, they will most likely kill you because they didn't care that you see their face.

Theres a channel on UA-cam called Active Self Protection that goes over all sorts of camera footage showing self defense situations. The guy who does the videos is a self defense/shooting instructor who is very knowledgeable. He always says, "never let yourself be tied up, if you do, you're most likely gonna die." Run if you can, fight if you can't, but never let someone tie you up and subdue you.

@Abdul Raheem Badayuni Glad you pointed out that "when your time is up, you die." Correct! When a psycho tries to mess with me or enter my home THEIR time will be up! I refuse to act like a fragile, unprepared, helpless being waiting to be taken advantage of. We live in a dark world and evil is lurking around the corner. I'm not paranoid, I'm a realistic, analytical free thinker. When my time is up only God the Father can decide when to take me home.

I was a sophomore at UF during the time of these murders. The palpable fear and anxiety was causing such bad dreams, I ended up withdrawing from school and leaving the state. I did eventually finish my degree at UF at a later date. This is the first time I’ve heard all the details of what happened. I hesitated for a long while before hitting the play button. It breaks my heart to hear what the victims went through. Their names have been on the 34th Street graffiti wall for 30+ years now.

All Criminals needs to be executed in a slow and painful way, like being thrown in boiling hot water in a giant pot! Execution needs to be like the Mongolians in the 12th century. Kill one person and you, your family, and relatives will be wipe out from this planet. This would make murders around the world drop. As family members will need to check who's the psycho in their family that's going to cause their whole lineage from being wipe out.

My mother was a student at UF and living with my dad at the time of the Danny Rowland killings. One weekend when he was out of town she was convinced someone was watching her. She told me that she actually had seen a head and a pair of eyes watching her from her from the emergency hatch inside her closet (essentially from the roof). A friend of theirs came and inspected the apartment immediately. They found someone’s living space in the hatch above her and my dads closet, but no person was there. They had broken in through crawl space left in roof of the Camelot apartments because at the time none were sealed off. It was easy access in and out of those apartments if you knew about it. A sleeping bag, tons of candy bar wrappers, and drink containers was inside that hatch. My mom fit the EXACT description of most of the women that were targeted.
When they called the cops they thought she would have potentially been another victim, but can never say for sure. It’s so disturbing watching this because I feel like I’m looking at my mom in all the photos of these women. I’m just glad she trusted her instincts and got the hell out of town with my dad and their friends. She said it was on of the most traumatic times in all the students lives because no one knew who could be next, and even being with people didn’t necessarily mean you were safe.

Gainesville resident here. This case still haunts the town to this day.
One of the most chilling parts I’ve ever heard about this case was that when Manny and Tracey were noticed as missing, some people got into their apartment to try and check what was going on. When they walked in, they saw blood and a black bag and immediately turned away to call the police. Once they got back, the black bag was gone. Many people think the killer was still inside when these people came in first, but once he heard them he got spooked and ran off. She wasn’t mutilated post mortem like the other victims, supporting this theory. Absolutely horrifying to think of if you were the friends to walk in

Hearing this story just reinforces my self guardedness when I’m out or even just relaxing at home. I always lock my doors and windows even if I’m inside. When I get out of my car , I always look around me. You have to be aware of your surroundings and be alert , not buried in your phone. A victimizer is going to pick an easy target.
My elderly neighbor lives alone and is a very sweet lady. One afternoon as I was about to leave my apartment, I hear her opening her door when 3 men had knocked on mine and I had not answered . I immediately stepped out and asked them what they wanted and they left. I pleaded with my neighbor Never to do that again because there is absolutely No reason to open your door to complete strangers ! My gut told me they were up to no good, and thankfully I was there to get rid of them. Unfortunately , you always have to be watchful .

I feel like some people would see that campsite in the day and ask themselves “why the heck is there a random tent a few feet from campus??” Like did no one think to report that? Personally if it was me I would report it in, I wouldn’t want some stranger, no matter the circumstance, to live that close to campus in a tent, it just gives off bad vibes and I would feel completely vulnerable and unsafe, knowing that some creep of some sort is keeping an eye on the campus at all times, which is slightly concerning and very stalkish, I’m just surprised Danny wasn’t caught quicker

I wonder if Tracy and Manny would have ended up getting married but thanks to Danny we would never know. Truly horrifying story. We still cannot find her. She was also very kind and loving and wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement . I have contacted the police, and numerous agencies dedicated to finding missing loved ones. Daily I think that she may have been murdered or forced into sex trafficking. My family has no closure and it has caused so much hate, finger pointing and guilt , especially to me, as her mother I felt that I let her down and I don't know why Vanessa never reached out to her family, if she could.
