If you, or someone you know, are ever attacked or assaulted by someone, please never be embarrassed or ashamed to report it! By reporting what happened, you could save a life!!! AND!!!! Listen to your gut feelings! If something doesn’t seem right, turn around and get out of there!
Seriously, men need to hone their danger instincts. While it is certainly a psychological burden for women to be cautious and wary in all kinds of situations, it’s also an asset. My dudes, there is no scenario in which a plastic wrapped garage is good news.
Yes that is so frustrating bc only an idiot wouldn’t realise at the very least they could save someone else suffering the same experience or worse- which is exactly what happened with Johnny.
If a "woman" invites you, a complete stranger she met on the internet, to her home, of all places, for a first meeting, be veeeeeery skeptical. No woman with any common sense would ever do that. You should always meet in a public place for a first date.
That was definite red flags. And why no phone numbers exchanged? Not that it would matter if there is a woman in on it and they were up to no good, but in no way should anyone feel comfortable getting specific driving instructions to a shady looking place. It makes no sense. It's like, if this were legit then the guy is gonna know the address of the place once he gets there so what was the point of all that? Exchange numbers, meet in a public place, make sure friends or family know where you're at and what you're doing, and play things cautiously.
The whole explanation of "I don't want to give you my address but let me explain to you how to get to my address" ... it's just giving you the address with extra steps. So many red flags throughout
Yep, I IMMEDIATELY knew that wasn't a woman. We meet up in public places with new people and let friends know where we're going and text them when we're home safe. We know better
@@scandisnowgirl3696 Exactly, there was no logic - not giving you my address but let's meet up at my place anyway ... what? :D It's a shame nonetheless, not thinking with the brain but rather ... you know :P
To anyone who gets attacked please don't feel embarrassed or ashamed and report it! You may just save someone elses life ❤️ R.I.P Johnny and I hope Giles is doing ok x
The thing that’s crazy is if the guy had just not written the script with such detail and had altered it, he might have gotten away with it for a lot longer Making the script to be so accurate that only the killer would know is one of the dumbest things he could’ve done
No we would never have gotten away longer regardless. he got caught because the plan was terribly sloppy, he used his own garage, communicated with the victims giving directions to his property by email, leaving evidence and he let his first victim get away to be able to tell exactly what happened and where, but then repeated the exact same plan again. The script just made it extremely easy to convict him since it was literally and a confession.
he would not get away for long at all, his first victim literally escaped and the only reason he didnt get caught that same day was because the guy was too "scared" to go to the police, he would have given the address and the messages and that itself is pretty much conclusion for this guys "serial killer" career, probably the most incopetent killer ive seen.
As a female, I would NEVER follow instructions like that to meet someone. Guys, please be careful! Whether you’re a man or woman always meet up in a restaurant or coffee shop with lots of people (witnesses) around.
Exactly! Also, letting a third party know where you’ll be is only half the battle, you also need to make sure the person you’re meeting knows someone else knows. Though last time I went through that performance for a freelance work gig I forgot to ask if I was parked in a tow away zone. It’s admittedly hard to remember all the things.
I wouldn't either. Not just cause I'm cautious and that whole scenario was fishy af but also because I'm bad with directions and I'm not trying to decipher some homework ass directions to get to somebody.
What are the odds we'd both be serial killers though? I play it safe and wait until the third date, then I know we really have a connection when one of us gets chopped up.
Something you forgot to mention was that the reason none of his neighbors called the police when they heard screaming coming from his garage, is because he had gone out of his way to make little flyers and told all his neighbors like “hey I’m filming a movie so if you hear anything concerning don’t be alarmed. It’s all actors.” Etc.
this dude is so full of b/s. There was no Edmonton killer that the director based his movie on. It was all him doing it. This fallen dude just adds elements to stories which never existed or are made up. There was one murder committed by him and one attempted murder where the victim managed to run away. He was set up on a pot dating site.
I cannot express how relieved and happy I am that Gilles made it out. So sad for Johnny... but damn... the look in Mark's eyes... looked deranged indeed.
He was a fan of Dexter, yet he forgot the Code of Harry (Dexter's father). Dexter could only kill other murderers to fulfill his need to kill while also doing good. This guy even had the nerve to call himself "Harry" with the second victim in this story.
I still miss the good old days when we got 3 or 4 strange, dark and mysterious uploads told in story format a week. Very grateful we still get one. Thanks for all your hard work Mr. Ballen. It's truly appreciated.
As I had said from the beginning, he needed to stop making so many videos every week. 1. He can do better research when he only does 1. 2. He would run out of stories so quick that his channel would end up going quiet. I'd rather see his channel last longer. 3. Less is more. Too much of a good thing ends up making it not so special. It is actually more appreciated and makes people happier when they get less of a good thing. Like seeing a loved one a couple times a week vs 24/7. That person and the time you spend with them becomes more special.
Oh WOW. I was so rooting for poor Gilles, I was actually shouting "Noooo!!" at the bit where the attacker was trying to drag him back into the garage. How bad he must have felt for not reporting it at first. The whole story was unbelievably crazy, and so fabulously told by Mr Ballen. A real nail biter!! 🥺
I dont get tha though, because those directions if they guide you to the house, he could easily figure out the address so then I'd think that person is an idiot or they think I'm an idiot.
Yeah would have been entertaining had I not already seen the story in detail on dateline 48 hours and true crime daily years ago. Mr Ballen we love you but you seem to be trying to live up to some standard that most people don't care about we just want to hear stories man. Ones that haven't been overplayed on other true crime TV shows. Honestly everything but true crime is what got everyone hooked on the channel and you know that.
You'd think theyd realize if,someone is weary of mtg you the 1st time they'd do it in public. Not telling u an address, but giving directions wouldn't be safe for a person who's supposedly scared n distrustful. I'm shocked the men didnt think this. If, i don't trust u to give u my address, i don't trust u enough to be alone w u! Then again 2nd guy ignored a whole real life murder prep scene.
It sucks being a True Crime fanatic sometimes, because I already know the “twist” and the “ending” of some of John’s videos. However, NOBODY tells the story like he does, so it’s always worth it.
It’s not a story for your entertainment. People are actually brutally murdered in these cases and the way this guy talks about them totally cheapens the tragedies and is giving his younger viewers a similar mindset, seeing true crime as “stories” and they’re just entertainment for you. It’s not an M Night movie, it’s a real event that destroyed several lives.
@@Peanut_taco_muffin I’m sure you felt very righteous writing this piece of drivel Mrs Potatah Head, but like it or not, True Crime has become a form of entertainment because of its effect that it has on people. People are curious about what makes things tick. What makes people do bad things. And how to protect yourself from things like that. People have been telling stories of crimes, wars, battles, disasters, and drama for millennia. This isn’t some new phenomenon, but from up there on your high horse, you might have missed it with your head in the clouds. Oh and BTW, we can see your True Crime playlist full of Stephanie Harlowe and Unsolved Mysteries. You can pretend that you’re better than us if you want, but you’re literally consuming the exact same content, and feeding the same beast that “entertains” us.
This whole story situation is so sad and scary. Even scarier to know that this guy's neighbors knew he was an amature filmmaker and had told them he was filming a horror movie so to not worry if they hear screams or power tools ☹
Also what shocked me was that a handsome tall guy like Mark would be a serial killer. Somehow I always picture serial killers as short ugly fat people lol.
Amazing job! I’m from Edmonton and there’s another murder that I think you should cover if you haven’t already. Her name is Amber Tuccaro, she was kidnapped and murdered. The police have absolutely botched the investigation despite there being a voicemail she left that includes the voice of her killer. The more eyes and ears we have learning her story, the better chance of her finally getting some justice ❤
Yes, Amber Tuccaro would be a god story to talk about. Maybe someone would remember something, crucial information… would be great to bring Amber home to her family and friends ❤
What about Karen Ewanciw?! The police never found her killer and she was just a little girl! or what about Gordie Sanderson(Septic Tank Sam)?! a young man who was a victim of the 60's scoop, and was found murdered in a septic tank! They could'nt even determine if he was a man or woman at first because of what his killers did to him. His identity was just revealed in 2021 and he was murdered in 1977. Or even Philip Innes Fraser?! A young man traveling from Alaska through BC to Seattle and was murdered along the way and his car was found burned out in Prince George, BC. There are a lot of murders here that need more attention.
What if they have a bunch of cats in said room, and when they open the door the day "i have a cat pee problem" Would it be acceptable then? I think so. I mean unless the walls are covered... But if you see the room, its probably already too late. Theyre probably gonna be right behind you holding a weapon
That's why, despite any embarrassment, you ALWAYS have to report an incident like this to the authorities. If not for yourself, for the next possible potential victim who might not be so lucky and pay with their life. Imagine living with that guilt.
But…. The only reason mark got caught was because giles was so secretive? Soo, it was lucky he didnt report it. Plus this type of thing almost never happens lol.
The root of the problem isn't that people aren't willing to report, it's that they don't want to be retraumatized by people who ultimately won't do anything, and ostracized in their communities. This is not the fault of victims
I understand your sentiment, but we have to be careful when making statements like this because they can easily cross the line into victim blaming. Like in the circumstances of rape victims - it’s very rare for any rapist to ever be prosecuted and most rape kits go completely unchecked. It does no good to report rapists 99% of the time, so most victims choose to save themselves further trauma of having strangers poke and prod them inside and out, swabbing their anus, their vagina, their mouth, taking swabs of everything, removing and keeping their clothing, retelling and reliving the event in great detail - and then nothing being done. So we can not put the blame on victims. It’s likely that a victim could report the killer/rapist/assault and then nothing be done and the perpetrator still go on to reoffend. It is not the fault of the victims.
Thank you so much for telling this horrible tragedy. People need to know that these dating sites are not safe even for men . People are to trusting and need to be safe and smart about dating online. Thank you again ...
You are 100% correct. I have a girlfriend that I found on a dating site (fortunately she was/is real so no one died) but we both had to have 100% blind trust to meet up that first time. For me (and my soon to be wife) it worked out. Listening to this definitely got my attention because so much of it was so close to what happened with us! ....with a happy ending obviously.
HOLY SHIT MrBallen THANK YOU FOR THE HEART!!! I just recently got into your content after seeing your videos on Facebook. I've been binge-watching for several days now, you got a new dedicated fan here who will absolutely demolish the like button every single time :D
6:50 I would have just suggested meeting up at a public place instead. You know when they talk about "suffering for your art" they're usually talking about the artist themselves suffering NOT causing suffering.
This is a good example for why meeting someone from the internet should be done in a public place ,especially if the person gives shady and weird directions on how to get to their house.
Or ya just DON'T GO. It's like when people reply to fake "treasure" e-mails. Have some common sense and don't go. You know all those scary movies you watch and say "why is that person dumb enough to go in there?" - This. These people lack awareness, and Darwin had a theory...
Absolutely. I think most straight women, and many gay men, have already internalized this by now, But for straight men they may still have a false sense of security because of the dearth of women who kill on first dates. But the truth is you could get that 1 lady who does, or you could be talking to a male serial killer, or a gang of thieves or anyone at all. The false sense of security is from the mistake of thinking women are victims of this type of murder because they're physically weaker. That's not why. It's because of 1. who the killers are, and 2. how we think about gender. 1. Most date killers happen to be straight men, so if sex instinct plays any role in their desire to kill, they will naturally target women. 2. As a young prettyboy gay I made some risky decisions in my teens and 20s. Like going into online hookups blind, being a bottom. I had 1 situation where I was violently assaulted, physically and sexually, where I wasn't even given an opportunity to negotiate or consent but thrown into some kind of nonconsensual, unsafe, insane BDSM scene without prior knowlege by a guy 3x my size without a safeword. Once the point of no return had been crossed and I fully realized I had 0 power, I had to act complicit because it was the safest thing to do. I was there for hours and had to act normal. He even had to drive me to train after. He asked if I was ok. And I remember it was VERY clear to me, that had I been a woman, I would be killed. I remember thinking in that moment, Thank God I'm not a girl because girls get killed after. That's fucked up. But it's what we are constantly fed in media. Boys/men are seen by abusers (and even others) as being able to accept and move on from abuse or rape "well he's a boy, he'll be ok". Girls are seen as ruined, stained, garbage. And garbage gets thrown out. In addition I think I wasn't just making an association fed by media, I think there was truth to it, in general, and in my particular situation. It was like an unspoken sense of "you're a guy, you understand the only rules are who can dominate who, you'll play by the rules". I'm not sure I'm articulating what I mean very well. But I do think as a result of these ideas, men, and in particular straight men, can have an inflated sense of security/invincibility when it comes to a blind date situation. Men have a very real awareness they can, at any time, be targeted for an unwanted fistfight if they say the wrong thing in public, because that's more common. So public is seen more of a place of risk, (although not murder level). Men don't usually walk around with the awareness that most women do, which is if you're alone anyone with a gun can hurt and kill you. It won't matter that you're x% stronger than if you were a woman.
I've met dozens of people from the Internet since the 90s. No problems yet. Though none gave weird vibes or directions for meeting. A problem occurring is closer to 0.1%. Don't live based on fears that are essentially as likely to happen as being hit by lightning. Just don't be a complete idiot and increase the chances like these guys were.
The fact that Mark wanted to become a filmmaker so badly that he wanted to make a film about a serial killer. He became a real life serial killer. Which is very ironic. Because Mark would’ve been the exact type that Dexter would hunt down.
I never watched the show, but I remember the premise was that Dexter was a serial killer who killed other serial killers...I guess Mark wasn't a true fan after all. 😄
I met my fiance and father of my beautiful son through an online dating site but it took me months of talking to him and using video chat before I agreed to meet and when I did, I used a public place. A pub that was usually frequented by people I knew and I told him to bring a friend. My friends that were there hung out with us. My sister was working at a restaurant across from the pub and also came over. It ended up being a giant group/ night out. Super fun and I was never in a vulnerable situation. I hint it with him in a group setting a few more times before letting my guard down.
I would say it takes a certain lack of situational awareness for someone to visit someone they don’t know and just met on the internet in a “probably too good to be true scenario” following strange convoluted directions and then seeing the garage lined with plastic - carrying on inside!
If the distressing part is when the couple just leaves then Giles decides to not call the police immediately, then yes this video is incredibly distressing. RIP Johnny.
@@nicolaidesourdy9844 I can understand if they're wary it was a trap and they were about to be mugged or conned, but in that case I would have walked a safe distance, kept him in eye sight, and called the cops about the man who ran up to us claiming this dude was trying to kill him. The first guy not calling the cops immediately is what really makes me mad. I am glad he changed his mind and called later, but that was something he should have done immediately.
Scepticism is so damn important, especially in situations like this, your gut will tell you what your reaction to a situation should be. Also, not only are the strange directions dead giveaways but, if you are committed to it bring something for self-defence. It's unlikely a killer is going to expect you to pull a weapon of some kind. Or, learn self-defence, MMA (mixed martial arts), taekwondo, ju-jitsu, kickboxing, muay Thai, Krav Maga, karate, etc. All are very effective and life-saving methods of staying safe. Just because your target/attacker is bigger, stronger etc doesn't mean his going always have the advantage. If you put anyone with basic self-defence training In those situations the likelihood of survival goes up. I think Giles's approach with adrenaline and being consciously aware that he could have easily died was a major benefactor in keeping him alive. He kept fighting realising he didn't want to die. If you get to a situation where you know it's life or, death, never give up. I've heard enough of these stories knowing that once incapacitated you are in a dire situation. The fact that this man survived to tell the tale and evidently helped bring down Mark was evidence enough of why he should not be embarrassed as he and Johnny prevented this from happening to anyone else. Mark was narcissistic by the end wanting everything his way. He was so devoid of any human emotion because his drive was on making a story believable that he descended into madness; he wanted the perfect ending. Knowing that some people lack any sense of empathy or, compassion - if anyone is ever in that situation though, I wish it never to be true but, be aware of how fighting is your best chance of survival. Take any opportunity you are given. My condolences to Johnny and his family that poor man was literally just looking for love. It's heartbreaking how Johnny's pleaded for his life using his last ounce of strength to protect himself hoping for the ordeal to be over. I admire his strength to keep on fighting till his last breath.
The level of descriptive narration you put into your videos can only be described as having combined true crime with the intensity one only gets from a top-notch fictional crime writer. Both of which I'm a diehard fan of...I'm so glad to have stumbled upon your channel I'm now addicted!
I don't understand why Mark thought he would get away with this. Making a movie about his own killings would only draw attention to himself. And if he slips up and leaves in details that aren't known to the public? Well then he's pretty much caught. And that's exactly what happened.
Could it not have been passed as fictional? Typically blank spaces gets filled with fictional things that fit with the rest. Idk tho It ofc depends on how much and if someone reported what happened. Like if it’s like it was in this case, pretty clear it ain’t fiction. But if it’s something small, I feel like it can be hard to tell.
Hello from Edmonton. There were a few other details that could've been mentioned but might be too extreme. If I remember correctly, Mark said dismembering a body was easier than he thought. There should be a real photo of the garage set up plus, I believe Mark was only renting that garage, not living there. And yes, when you want to meet in person, meet at a restaurant or coffee shop. You'll figure out if each other are comfortable going further with a relationship/friendship.
how much do i have to pay to your agency to receive such comments under my videos? can i write the text and u spam it with different accounts under my vids?
Me and my lady of a long time just split and I’ve been really depressed and moping around about it, like couldn’t be worse. This story snapped me out of it. I’m not in a garage covered in plastic about to die. I’m good now, thanks Mrballen.
One of the first pieces of advice sites give about dating is that the first date should always be in a public place with plenty of people and "escape routes" and to never be alone with your partner for a long period of time.
Mr. Ballen I'm truly amazed, you must do a heavy amount of research, your stories are not only very interesting, and to include it you add such passion and entertaining. Thank you for story telling. Strangely enough I have not only learned much but I have new appreciation to stories..
Giles was absolutely insane for following those instructions. At least his bravery saved his life. Please guys no matter how desperate you are for companionship, don’t fall for things like that.
I know, seriously! Guys, if a girl actually likes you, she will meet you at a public place. Never meet anyone in a dark garage or a field or anything. No woman will ever actually ask you to do that. It’s a trap.
I try not to victim blame when it comes to these stories, but yeah. Johnny especially was bad given how many weird things popped up ("Harry", the weird directions, etc.) and him refusing to put 2 and 2 together.
Everyone should read "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin De Becker. It teaches people to trust their gut feelings and instincts and to not simply dismiss them as being paranoid.
I have lived in and around Edmonton most of my life. While I never heard of this case until now, the area of this garage doesn't surprise me. That area is known as Millwoods, or "Killwoods" and "Millhood" as some of us call it. It was a horrible area of the city for decades, but has somewhat cleaned up these last few years.
Hearing this story many times now, I still can’t help but feel so upset with Giles for not reporting this murderer. Had he done so, Johnny would never have met such an awful fate. Thanks for the upload, Mr. B!
He explains this in his book. He was really embarrassed. Remember, we didn't know the circumstances surrounding Johnny's disappearance. (At the time, it was just a missing person report. Nobody knew where he was.) Same with the couple who didn't help him. They were convinced it was a set-up. (The area is a gang area.)
I went from thinking he was stupid for doing so many risky things, to genuinely disliking the guy, the hell with "feeling embarrassed", his cowardice got a man killed.
You Sir make living alone as a single adult scary. 😂 Your stories are a good reminder to tell someone where you're going, that is if you have no one home waiting for you.
Did he think he could publish a script detailing murders perfectly without anyone wondering why they were so similar to real life murders but with even more detail?
Probably, he was dumb enough to send directions to his property by email and think somehow police wouldn't be able to work out where it was without the exact address so...
I loved the show “Dexter” and dexter was a guy who murdered awful serial killers who were able to slip through the justice system. This guy was someone Dexter would’ve hunted down.
Police police police, see we "NEED" police in our society because they "HELP" us. What would we do in a society without police. Well we would have to form tighter communities because there's no police to call and we would always be carrying some type of weapon into risky scenarios (Because there's no law preventing this common sense carry). Hmmm just think about how much "help" the police were in these scenarios as opposed to how much help a tighter community / tighter bonds with neighbors would be, paired with carrying at the very least a taser at all times. Do you see how police protection is a fallacy and that we would literally be safer WITHOUT police. Yes that's actually the reality of it. Police are an evil cult that need to be abolished all they do is arrive AFTER a crime has been committed to satiate vindictiveness. They don't protect us AT ALL, they only prevent self protection though reliance on them. Abolish the immoral police cult!
@@adammada511 True, but it's a long road to that ideal from this point. There are very few communities left that are willing - much less capable - of policing themselves. And really it would eventually boil down to gang warfare, which ironically enough is why the police were invented 200 years ago.
I have to say, I've been watching all of your videos the past few days and I love your storytelling. I love writing and making up stories, and I love seeing someone do it so well to so many!! Love your content!
I heard this story before and I remember how pissed of I was at that first guy that he hasn't reported it and told something like this to anyone.. effin coward he could've saved someone's life!!! but her thought his attempted affair is more important to hide than reporting a damn serial killer!!! people like this literally perpetuate evil in this world.
Exactly! He has a lot of defenders aswell. It makes me sick. I've seen him accept praise from journalists on TV for being "brave". He was just a creep who made a stupid decision because he was desperate to get laid, then didn't report a DEFINITE serial killer whose address he literally knew!!!!
Fun fact: I live in Edmonton and my teacher for my visual effects program was invited by this guy to help on his script, he had askd my teacher to meet him at his house but refused, probably saved his life, they ended up meeting a few times in public.
This is why if you're going to meet someone from a dating site, you should always do it in a neutral, public location where there are plenty of witnesses. At least that way you can confirm they are who they say they are and not some random dude.
I learned that the hard way when I ended up getting drugged and raped by a man who I met online. We had been chatting for a couple of months. He was a single dad of an 8 year old boy as his wife died when their son was six months old. One night we were supposed to meet but then he said his babysitter cancelled. I had a rule that I always met in a public place but I felt safer this time because of his little boy who ended up being a real little sweetheart. It was right after Christmas and he had to show me every one of his gifts as well as his cat. After his dad put him to bed he made me a drink and we sat on the couch and visited. He was a gentleman. I finished my drink and he said that he was going to make me another one that would be extra tasty. He brought it to me from the kitchen and I took one sip. Immediately after that I had difficulty keeping my eyes open. He took me by the hand and told me that I had better go lay down. That was my last memory until 4 am when I woke up in a bed with no clothes on.
The strange directions were already sketchy, the date could've suggested to meet at a public place if she wasn't comfortable sharing her address on the app. The dark garage would've been the last straw for me I don't know if I'm just paranoid or I've watched too many of Mr Ballen's videos🤣
It is good to be wary whenever you meet a stranger. If I sell something I want to meet in public. Never used a dating app but I would think the same rules apply. Catfishing is a weird thing. I have a social anxiety disorder so the thought of meeting someone for a date I didn't know is terrifying. I'm already anxious when I meet someone to sell them something.
Take a weapon. Tell someone exachtly where your going. If you dont let them know your ok within a certain period of time to call the police. Maybe keep your phone on speed dial to emergency services too with an address you can immediately give.
I had heard about this on This Is Monsters but to hear it via his script offered a different perspective. So glad that guy went to the cops and that the other guy gave his location to his friend. Had they not done that, there's no telling how much more killing he would have done. He was also a married man living a double life. His wife was completely in the dark about all of this. She thought he was going to work. His lies were elaborate.
I love this guy so much, this video popes up on my feed and I was shocked that he has videos that I didn’t watch yet😂 God damn I can’t wait for the graphic novel
Dexter didn't "lure" his victims anywhere-- he ambushed them with a syringe full of animal tranquilizers. He targeted other murderers, not innocent strangers looking for a hook up online. This guy wouldn't be Dexter, he would be one of Dexter's victims.
Yup, the only thing dexter about this is the kill room, everything else is anti dexter and thus would be the target of dexter. But I don't think that Mark was actually trying to imitate dexter outside the kill room, killers killing killers doesn't drive fear or real suspense in movies but doing it to innocent people and with such a common thing as dating sites would have made for a great horror suspense type film. Didn't need that reality part to get there though. It would also be interesting to see the writers of dexter use this story, given how dexter is often conflicted with admiring a killers work with stopping the killer having someone use his exact methods of evidence prevention and killing would create a very interesting multifaceted plot over several episodes. Dexter was one of those shows that was well written, maybe too well written as it covered the mental and physical issues in pretty good detail as if the writes were writing about their own fantasy and mental illness. Just not taken it to the level mark did.
I briefly considered skipping this one cuz I've heard about this case several times, but I'm glad I didn't. It's really a testament to how damn good of a storyteller you are that I was engaged just as much or even more than the first time I heard about it.
Me too! I already know this story, but I thought Mr Ballen has such an enthralling gift that I'll give it a listen. I was on edge! This man is a master of storytelling!!
This is my favorite case! It’s so crazy that people almost wouldn’t believe it. Whenever I talk about this to someone, they think it’s just a bad movie idea. They always look it up and I love it!!!
When the woman wanted to give basically clues to her address it reminded me of the office when Dwight was going to host Angela and Andy’s wedding so he gave out a map. I instinctively was waiting for “go to a bees nest on West Point of a well known raccoon population spot”. Anyways, these people are sick and my condolences to the victims’ families.
If I got very odd directions, got to where I was supposed to go, looked under a garage door and saw plastic covering literally everything, pretty sure I'd realize I don't wanna meet anyone bad enough to go inside.
this dude is so full of b/s. There was no Edmonton killer that the director based his movie on. It was all him doing it. This fallen dude just adds elements to stories which never existed or are made up. There was one murder committed by him and one attempted murder where the victim managed to run away. He was set up on a pot dating site.
I went to buy a mattress once, had linked up with a lady off Facebook. I followed directions to the address, a supposed mattress store…. It was a warehouse with no lights on, door was chained, and the “lady” refused to meet me outside and kept telling me to just come in (I didn’t even see an entrance that wasn’t locked!!) I just left and blocked her. No mattress was worth that hassle
@@tiranecat6865 trusting your immediate gut feeling can save you from a lot of trouble and who knows what you saved yourself from but you were absolutely right. if they aren't willing to meet outside somewhere public, huge huge red flags. always do this while armed. preferably with someone else armed in the car as well. I was looking to buy some rings off of facebook and found someone with a cool collection, BUT minutes after I had told them I was on the way with an ETA they had responded with OK and once I got there, they weren't answering calls, they just sent me a text to come in. I said no, come outside, they tried convincing me more to come inside through their door and I just dipped outta there. my gut was screaming bad bad bad bad.
If something feels odd don’t do it. Usually you should trust your gut instinct. That’s why things like Craigslist or dating apps are a cautious endeavor.
I recently discovered this channel and have become absolutely hooked on Mr. Ballen's videos. I have watched almost all of them and they are fantastic. This is the first video though that literally made me gasp and cover my mouth with my hands. My heart goes out to those 2 men. We never really think things like this will happen to the men but clearly, we have been proven wrong. When I meet someone I NEVER EVER meet at my house or theirs's. Always, always, always in a public place with lots of people and I ALWAYS tell a friend where I am going & send them the person's phone number and picture and I have to call them when I get home. I'm incredibly blessed to have friends who care about me so much to make me do this plus I share my location with them so they can track me.....just in case! Guys, please don't ever be embarrassed to come forward. By telling the police you will have saved another victims life!
Poor Johnny but how clever he was to have sent the details to a friend just shame he still walked into the creepy garage. But he did save other potential victims from facing the same fate.
No. CLEVER would have been to insist that his "date" meet him AT A PUBLIC PLACE (like the restaurant or theater). CLEVER would have been to ALWAYS carry a Flashlight so you would Never have to enter a dark place. CLEVER would have been to be Armed so as to Not be an Easy Victim.
Unlike Giles. He could have put an end to it but his pride cost other people's lives. Fuck your embarrassment, if there's a killer loose, contact the authorities...
He’s not clever at all he’s stupid may he Rest In Peace but literally it couldn’t have been any more comical how the scenario played out like a bad horror movie how the fuck do you walk into a garage covered in plastic with a masked man and then come back later and enter it in the dark like oh my fucking god how naive and unaware do you have to be
@@Bamiyanbigasf took the words out my mouth, tragedy but how bad of a coochie drought do you have to be in to fucking ignore that many red flags and then just say “police!” like some officer is gonna just jump from out the corner
That was very smart of Johnny to let his friend know where he'd be going, instructions and all. And his friend was a true homie for alerting the police once they realized something was off. What a tragedy. R.I.P Johnny
Yeah if only GILES hadn't been so protective of his ego to report what happened to him, then Mark would have been in jail before he could keep catfishing.
I just read the script. Turns out, the loser chickened out and told johnny to go home. The man came back the next day and got killed! Of course, Mr ballen left that bit out, probably to make the story more concise.
If you ever make the dumb choice of meeting someone you’ve met online and never seen their face or have a phone call with them, make sure to meet them at a theatre or restaurant or any public place so there are people there to see the encounter
This is much more than a story of a wannabe serial killer. The need for approval, acceptance… has one man hiding in shame from being attacked, and another willing to commit horrific acts in search of fame. A terrifying and sad story indeed.
Mark didn’t need approval or acceptance from anyone. He was getting off purely on terrifying and killing people. He could have picked any subject material if it was about getting approval and fame. He chose a serial killer because he wanted to torture and kill people
Wannabe serial killer???? who in their right mind wants to be a serial killer? no one unless you are a serial killer. No one in their right mind would kill anyone for "acceptance and approval" Mark was already a serial killer, no one becomes a serial killer over night.
@@socialmedia2674 normal people do not want to be serial killers that doesn't mean no one does, and the greatest shame is that we make serial killers celebrities encouraging other people to be so, so yes in fact there are a lot of wannabe serial killers, it's sad and it's sick
A few years back, while Dexter was still on the air (I was a fan) a friend of mine went out of town and I agreed to drop by his house and feed his cat. I couldn't find the food so I went into the garage, flipped on the light and holy cow there was all this plastic sheeting hanging up, just like one of Dexter's kill rooms. Startled the hell out of me, but it turns out he was making a clean room to rebuild the engine in his Porsche. (Or so he claimed. He did have an old Porsche).
I would've left the whole bag of food out for the cat, so I didn't have to come back! I used to watch Dexter, too, and that set-up in the garage would've scared the crap out of me!!
Holy hell that's insane! It's sad that those guys didn't just arrange to meet somewhere in public. No real woman would invite a stranger over to her house.
Right? Why would anyone go to a stranger’s house? Meet at the restaurant or better yet, a coffee shop. In the afternoon, not at night. During a semi busy hour so there’s lots of people around.
I know exactly what he meant when he said he felt a surge of adrenaline. I was the victim of a home invasion and attacked and told I would be killed. On hearing that I just thought to myself if I'm dying, I'm dying fighting. I actually managed to fight my out of the house. Still got the scars on my face.
Oh wow. Thank you for sharing. That must have been so scary. Hope you are ok, now. Mentally so that does not affect you for years to come. Take care of your self.
I have been in three dozen true crime TV shows (IDTV, Oxygen, etc.) and none of them come close to being as fascinating, or as well told as anything Mr. Ballen does!!! I love your story telling, and sometimes I fall down the rabbit hole, and I watch for way too long at night lol.
"He wanted to become Dexter in real life" Well technically Dexter may be a serial killer but he's essentially a vigilante that only targets other killers. He doesn't go after innocent people, at least not on purpose. If Mark was targeting pedophiles or something and luring them to his garage to meet up with underage girls or boys then that would've been a reasonable comparison.
@@biancaluedeker that’s not something dexter would kill over. A pedo/ murderer / rapist etc not a cheater not a good person but not worthy of dexters wrath.
If a stranger asks you to meet them in a garage, you’re probably meeting a serial killer. Ask to meet them in public. If they say no, move on. Trust me.
Great storie telling. Mr Ballen you had me giggling to myself when you talked about your new merch it was when you said we have flannels in England a flannel is a washcloth, i thought oh he does wash clothes now 😂😂😆😆🤣🤣as a woman ya can never have to many flannels in ya bathroom 🤔🤔😆😆
There have been so many cases of people being catfished and attacked by someone they met on a dating site, it really should be made into a movie to teach people, especially men, not to waltz into the homes of some supposedly cute blond babe they met online. Most women are more wary of meeting new people and would prefer to meet in a public place first, if you get an invitation to her house on the first date, that is a huge red flag
Exactly! I kept thinking throughout this whole thing: "Why are these dudes ignoring the huge red flags!???" Weird direcrions, garage covered in plastic, a gorgeous woman that is happy to invite them into her home without knowing them!

Ever since I started following your channel, I have drastically made some adjustments in my personal life. As much as I started watching your content for entertainment purpose initially, now I honestly started incorporating some practices that I overlooked before out of carelessness or just not overthinking about dangers around us. I have made a habit of always checking my doors and windows to make sure they're locked. Also me and my family enjoy outdoor activities and are regular campers. I have a 4 year old daughter and I make sure I never keep her out of my sight or my reach no matter how tired or exhausted I am. You are doing the community a great service and I wish your videos reach many viewers out there and they learn a thing or two about the invisible monsters all around us. Thank you sir!!!
Yes me too!!! Now more than ever I’m more aware of everything around me esp when it comes to my daughter… I tell her allllll the time… there’s a lot of crazy people out here and you never know… always be aware & watch your surroundings and don’t ever trust anyone esp strangers and never talk to strangers even if you think they look nice… even women. There’s a story where this man came out of the store with his baby while his wife was still in the store and this lady came up to him took his baby & when he tried getting his baby back she started yelling that he was tryna steal her baby and everyone tried hurting him and she started walking off but luckily the wife came out and got her baby and they lady just left before anyone could see where she went cuz people still didn’t believe the father and was still attacking him. Crazy store but so true. There are so many predators out here esp with trafficking.

I see I'm not the only one who misses the time when we got "three to four and sometimes even five uploads every week!!" This is my favorite channel and I really would love more content.
His three, four, sometimes even five uploads every week were such great quality as well. I thought early on that if he keeps going at this rate he will either be scraping the bottom of the barrel for stories or have to do a lot of research for a good one.
I think one of the most important takeaways from this is that when someone does something bad to you then TELL SOMEONE sooner, not later. You'll stop others from suffering the same fate or worse.
Right? That first victim has blood on his hands now for being so irresponsible and not telling anyone he survived an attempted kidnapping and murder and now someone else is dead because it.
Sometimes, people don't listen. I'm being stalked by an attempted murderer. I contacted police. They did NOTHING. So,yeah, telling someone doesn't always help😞😞
This story serves to reminds us to be vigilant in the online dating scene. As a general rule: 1. If its too good to be true, it most likely is. 2. If at any point the one messaging you wants you to do some sort of complicated or lengthy process before meeting up, stop messaging and don't go through whatever instructions they tell you to do.
3. Don't meet them at their house or in a secluded area. Always meet in a public place where there are a lot of people. 4. Tell your family and/or friends where you're going and when you'll be coming back before you go to meet the person. They won't be able to help you if they don't know where you are. 5. Carry pepper spray and/or mace. 6. Carry a whistle or an alarm. You can use them to try and alert anyone who might be nearby. 7. If your gut is telling you something's wrong and that you should bail, listen to your gut. It might just save your life.

Seriously, men need to hone their danger instincts. While it is certainly a psychological burden for women to be cautious and wary in all kinds of situations, it’s also an asset. My dudes, there is no scenario in which a plastic wrapped garage is good news.
@@MrBallen This channel is strictly for entertainment. Great content!
Yes that is so frustrating bc only an idiot wouldn’t realise at the very least they could save someone else suffering the same experience or worse- which is exactly what happened with Johnny.
@@MrBallen your doing great! May I please put in a request for a story?
@@Chrotesque LOL facts. I'm not about to sit here figuring out landmarks to meet someone at their place.

Killing is getting more common. WW3 is also coming. The end time is about to begin.... or already here now.
The thing that’s crazy is if the guy had just not written the script with such detail and had altered it, he might have gotten away with it for a lot longer
Making the script to be so accurate that only the killer would know is one of the dumbest things he could’ve done
Blindsided by his own creative passion. I've heard of artists losing themselves to their work before, but this dude took it to a whole new level.
its possible that he never intended on getting away with it and just didnt think hed be caught before he could finish the script
@@Zeroxylon possible but unlikely considering how badly he wanted to break into Hollywood
AND….. always let someone know when your going to meet up with a stranger and where
Honestly at this point its just natural selection
He was set up on a pot dating site.
fucking mental with this nut case
RIGHT/ MESSED UP
I mean… he didn’t lie.
That's absolutely disgusting!
And very crazy,
I cannot express how relieved and happy I am that Gilles made it out.
I guess Mark didn’t realize, but he would be exactly the person that Dexter would kill
Exactly
I was thinking the same thing!
Thank you for saying it, cause that's exactly what I was thinking too! Dexter had a code! 🖤🖤
But the difference is that Dexter is fiction but Mark did it in real life which is way worse.
Straight facts

The whole story was unbelievably crazy, and so fabulously told by Mr Ballen. A real nail biter!! 🥺
I feel bad for Johnny as he didn't survive
"She" didn't want to give an address, so gave exact directions like it was a top secret scavenger hunt. Wouldn't most people think, NOPE!
And as a dexter fan wouldn't that trigger you seeing that place wrapped on plastic like this?! 🤔 good grief.
Easy peasy rule of thumb: If a woman--or person in general--won't give you her address, she won't give you any way to easily locate where she lives.
Pussy makes you crazy
Yeah come to the garage. **sees garage halfway open** I should go in. #DarwinAwards
I dont get tha though, because those directions if they guide you to the house, he could easily figure out the address so then I'd think that person is an idiot or they think I'm an idiot.

You'd think theyd realize if,someone is weary of mtg you the 1st time they'd do it in public. Omg same . I knew the entire story but still sat through and listened
I was suspecting the ending. But it still got me
It’s not a story for your entertainment.
People have been telling stories of crimes, wars, battles, disasters, and drama for millennia. What about Karen Ewanciw?! The police never found her killer and she was just a little girl!
or what about Gordie Sanderson(Septic Tank Sam)?! a young man who was a victim of the 60's scoop, and was found murdered in a septic tank! That's why, despite any embarrassment, you ALWAYS have to report an incident like this to the authorities. If not for yourself, for the next possible potential victim who might not be so lucky and pay with their life. Imagine living with that guilt.
THANK YOU! Silence helps no one.
But…. The only reason mark got caught was because giles was so secretive? Soo, it was lucky he didnt report it. Plus this type of thing almost never happens lol.
The worst part is that reporting does not mean that the police will do anything

As a women, I tend to meet people I don't know for coffee, in a very public place. I think men should do the same with someone they don't know.

the twist at the end LITERALLY made my jaw drop...holy shit.
I'm not gonna isolate myself out of fear of something extremely unlikely happening to me. But I agree it's definitely best to meet in public places.
Never go alone! Always let someone know where you're going if you don't know them.
The fact that Mark wanted to become a filmmaker so badly that he wanted to make a film about a serial killer. He became a real life serial killer. Which is very ironic. Because Mark would’ve been the exact type that Dexter would hunt down.
That's what I was saying! I didn't want to type out another comment about it if someone already said it lol, thanks! 😀
I never watched the show, but I remember the premise was that Dexter was a serial killer who killed other serial killers...I guess Mark wasn't a true fan after all. 😄
Not a serial killer, just a murderer.
With a single victim, he doesn't meet the threshold to be a serial killer.
So he failed on that too.

Good call. Online dating is awful.
RIP Johnny.
Amen! RIP Johnny be at peace.
Only people from Edmonton understand why they didn't help. It's a wild city.
But on the flip side, if they never would have walked by, he would have been killed. In a way they did save his life.

Idk tho
It ofc depends on how much and if someone reported what happened. Like if it’s like it was in this case, pretty clear it ain’t fiction. But if it’s something small, I feel like it can be hard to tell.

I agree with you 100%.

Desperate people do stupid things.
He took me by the hand and told me that I had better go lay down. yeah because that was giving "her" address with extra steps.

I had heard about this on This Is Monsters but to hear it via his script offered a different perspective. So glad that guy went to the cops and that the other guy gave his location to his friend. @@systeminwhichtheviolenceis4693…Lol

If Mark was targeting pedophiles or something and luring them to his garage to meet up with underage girls or boys then that would've been a reasonable comparison.
Now Mark gets to experience being someone's boy toy.
reasonable indeed
Another account said that he was first targeting unfaithful husbands, but then gave up on that idea.
He would be a hero if he attacked pedos
@@biancaluedeker that’s not something dexter would kill over. A pedo/ murderer / rapist etc not a cheater not a good person but not worthy of dexters wrath.
If Drugs Was A UA-cam a Channel, This Would Of Been It, So Addictive.
🤘🤘🤘
Mr ballen watching the movie we weren’t supposed too watch ua-cam.com/video/F9r971wRMcQ/v-deo.html
💯✔Agreed.
This would be the "heroin channel"
Don't worry, it's good to be addicted to Mr. Ballen! 👍
💯 FACTS
Shows how many ppl really follow the great storytelling here just read the comments ...great stuff ballin keep it up
I watch many true crime channels and podcasts but this ending genuinely surprised me, I could've never seen that coming!
Poor Johnny. He had several opportunities to save his own life. He knew it wasn't a normal situation but he was thinking with the wrong head.
ikr he could have hit Mark with the metal bar that he grabbed from him!!!
@@areebasyed2469 he didn't grab it from him, he just had a hold of it. The other guy still had a hand on the pipe too
@@baconscoobysnacks3135 ohhh sorry my bad thank you for telling 😁
Confirmation bias
He was thinking with his groin
If a stranger asks you to meet them in a garage, you’re probably meeting a serial killer. Ask to meet them in public. If they say no, move on. Trust me.
Shouldn't be rocket science, should it? And yet apparently it is.
So what if we meet in public THEN they mention the garage
Some men are blinded thinking with the wrong head.
@@slupot absolutely!
@Mr.Ballen LOVE YOUR STORIES
Naaa it's not where Im from, it's a green light you've bagged a slag.
video chatting solves this issue. never meet someone you haven't seen
@@abigail858 Guys overlook ALOT when there's a chance of getting laid.
@@Wisdom-Nuggets-Tid-Bits which coconut shell have you crawled out from under? You do know there are plenty of horror and action movies out there of people doing much worse things right? And you're saying everyone who watches movies follows what happens in the movies? No need to insult the intelligence of others when you have none to speak of
Ever since I started following your channel, I have drastically made some adjustments in my personal life.

So crazy to hear a story that happened in the City I live in. I remember hearing about this, and it is still so wild that it actually happened!!

I love your way of telling real life disturbing yet sad but some realities stories ☺️☺️
Hope everyone enjoys the holidays stay safe and warm❤️
I see I'm not the only one who misses the time when we got "three to four and sometimes even five uploads every week!!" This is my favorite channel and I really would love more content.
Me, too, but if fewer videos means Mr. B can keep up the high caliber quality of his stories, so be it.
His three, four, sometimes even five uploads every week were such great quality as well. I thought early on that if he keeps going at this rate he will either be scraping the bottom of the barrel for stories or have to do a lot of research for a good one.
his new podcast is coming out soon!
He got us addicted, then left us hanging... 😆
I’ve kinda had to take a backseat just for that reason. It’s not that I don’t want to watch, it’s coz I binge.
Yea the first comment
Snitches gets stitches
Sometimes, people don't listen. I'm being stalked by an attempted murderer. I contacted police. They did NOTHING. So,yeah, telling someone doesn't always help😞😞
@@surprisesofjoyfulness8147 Which police have you contacted so far? Is it your local PD/Sheriff's office? Contact the state police if they ignore you.
One of the most craziest stories I have ever heard. Wow SMH. Love the channel.
I love the way you tell stories!!!
This story serves to reminds us to be vigilant in the online dating scene. As a general rule:
1. If its too good to be true, it most likely is.
2. If at any point the one messaging you wants you to do some sort of complicated or lengthy process before meeting up, stop messaging and don't go through whatever instructions they tell you to do.
I know, its so easy to have a first meeting at an agreed upon PUBLIC location. Blows my mind
The only reminder that you need: Own a gun and ALWAYS have it on you! Period!
I met my wife online and we are....
Never mind you're correct
@Tommy Gaming 🅥 thanks man I really enjoyed this 😆😆
