Couldn't agree more, Scott. Zero depth in the mini games. Even my kids are done with them after the first few days. I have NO clue where I'm going to store them.... I'll admit the robot kit is my favorite out of everything, but it's also the largest of all the contraptions, and still lacks some much needed depth.
Honestly yeah. The only thing I could see holding interest their for a while is the ToyCon Garage, but then again your kids might not be old enough to fully understand/work with it. Hell I'd buy Garage if Nintendo sold it desperately on the EShop for like 5 dollars
If you select "Toy-Con", yes. It's like Nintendo was thinking, "そうですね、これらの人達がニンテンドーラボバラエティーキットとマリオカート8デラックスの両方を持っているのなら、一緒に働かせてはどうでしょうか!" (Well, if these people have both the Nintendo Labo Variety Kit and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, why not make them work together!)
I love how, even while being one of the only people who could call themselves a "true gamer" and nobody would bat an eye, Scott still appreciates and understands when games are made for a younger/more casual demographic and doesn't criticize them for it.
Your intros are the best part of your videos. The scripts are clever as hell, and your delivery is top-notch! Btw, that was a nice Antdude cameo. Respect
Nicolas Recalde there's a lot of content, from what I heard, my brother (who is 21) played the fishing pole all night (as in three hours as he bought it at night)
Nicolas Recalde also from what I know the House is really in depth, the motorcycle is very in depth as it has its own Mario maker type deal, piano (people have played the Wii shop channel on it, need I say more?), RC Car (it's an RC Car), and oh gosh the garage is huge someone literally basically made ARMS with it
Nintendo has a tendency of jumping the gun when it comes to innovation. I appreciate that they're trying something new, but projects like the labo definitely could have benefited from more thought and development
I never understood the LABO hate. Yeah, it's cardboard, but it also comes with software and the cardboard is designed to be made into something cool. Lego is "just plastic," but no one gets mad at them
While I mostly agree with your assessment of the play mode, some (some) toy cons are more replayable. Also, a lot of it is making your own stuff, which isn’t for everybody, but it’s a lot of fun. But I totally agree, I’d like to see toycons focused on the play part in the future. Even Labo as accessories to games would be cool.
Miiva "Hey all, Scott here. Scott The Woz is an comedic video game centric variety show that focuses on reviews, editorials, retrospectives, and much, much more. 5:01 Scott: Let it be known, the switch can’t play Donkey Kong Jr. Math, but it can play Hot Cross Buns. Me: I can’t play Donkey Kong Jr. Math on switch! It’s too fair!
Ultimately, variety kit n°1 is great as a proof of concept. I'd love for more switch games to explore that "add 5$ to the boxed version pricetag to get some cheap cardboard to add on your controllers to create completely new control schemes", but I honestly don't think much if any games will try that out - even after the relative success of Labo. To me, Labo is Link's crossbow training's big plasticy rifle, but with cheap cardboard instead of costly plastic, and the fun of making it, too. It genuinely has potential, but what are the odds anybody's going to try following in Nintendo's footsteps here?
That's the opposite way of how I want it to appear in the future. Less labo clones, more (shitty example incoming) "Here's breath of the wild 2 - it comes with a cardboard bow!".
I don’t think they really want other companies to copy them. they just do stuff cause they wanna. other companies just copy them when they wanna get some money from the idea too
Wouᴉʞɐ MONIKA ɒʞinom I hope there isn't a BoTW2. BoTW was fun from what I have played of it but I think Nintendo would be better off trying to mix the old with the new when it comes to 3D Zelda. Or maybe even (hopeful thinking alert!) Create a linear and open world 3D zelda, or if a not linear Zelda then a 2.5D zelda.
Definitely looks like a good little gadget for kids, not so much hardcore gamers or anything... but you gotta give Nintendo props for always trying to innovate.
Personally, aside from the price, Labo seems to be a perfect tech demo. It shows off the unique features of the Switch and joy cons perfectly, like the IR camera, gyroscope, and HD rumble. As such, especially looking at the garage portion, it shows developers things they can do with their games beyond just using control sticks and buttons. The question is just whether or not they actually make use of it, as only Nintendo themselves made use of the Wii U gamepad, and even that was rare, and the Wii didn't have much more usage of the motion controls
you know, now revisiting this video, it been 6 month since release, and i must say that it was 89$ (hey i'm canadian, the thing cost 89.99$ here) pretty much well invested. But, of course have have kids, my daugthers are 4 and 5 years old. first the contraption were easy enough to made so that 5 years old could do it with very few help. and 6 months later, they still play with it at least once a week. And guest what, 6 months later, the toy-con are still usuable, they are not broken (well they did broke a few time, but it was easy to repair with tape and glue), sure they take a little bit of space, but i mean not much more than other toys. So, as a kid toy, i think labo was a huge success.
9:43 just buy the labo creation kit storage box. It’s specifically big enough to fit all the labo toycons and they’re labeled specifically for each set. Would be great for collecting or storing
My brother made a VR helmet plus gun in Nintendo Labo, you put the helmet on and you play a series of VR minigames using the gun. It works really well actually, tracks your head movements and everything.
It’s not “just cardboard.” It has programming that’s much more complicated than other video games. You’re working with variables that are normally constant, so there’s a lot of kinks in the code to work out. Not to mention, they created their own node based programming. You can’t just translate it to a syntax.
The discover part definitely could be a great introduction to programming, it's like an if statement in Java, so I can see this really being a good tool to introduce kids to programming. I would buy Labo (if I had that $$), but my cat would probably eat it
That was really close to being a Steve Martin joke at the beginning. Steve walks up to a beautiful woman at a bar and says "Yeah I play the stock market. I bought 3 tons of cardboard 6 months ago when it was $0.12 a pound. It's up to $0.14 now. Which means I made like... I don't know you do the math. Best part I only have to keep half of it at my house." One of the best pick-up lines ever. Sorry the beginning just reminded me of that. Keep up the good work man.
