  • Last week we had the privilege of helping a long time client install his new DISHY. We moved his new Starlink system from the tripod on the ground up to the metal roof of the new barn. We found an awesome solution from Reddit and added magnets to the Tri-Pod. This enabled us to mount the dish onto the metal roof without having to make any penetrations and risk leaks.
We also added a new eero Wi-Fi 6 mesh router for the inside of the building.

Thanks. Saved me drama. Tropics and do NOT want to drill on roof.
What strength did you say the magnets were?

New dishes have a "four leg" stand and the bottom of the stand doesn't protrude like the gen 1. This means shorter bolts are required. Distance through the leg is 7mm at the tip and 13 at the top of the slot. Adding at least 4 threads into magnet leaves you with bolts 12-18mm long. Ordering M8*20mm

How did the M8 20mm bolts work? Any chance you can send me a link to the bolts you purchased? I just got my dish and planning to go the same route.

@@huckelberry1009 The bolts I purchased are no longer available on Amazon. One thing of note is the slot for the screws is a fraction of a mm too narrow and I had to use a Dremel to remove a bit of material, not enough to cause any structural weakening. I used plastic washers as they allowed for more consistent pressure to the magnets due to the sloped top of the screw slots. The 20mm length was exactly right. I tested this for weeks on the cab of my pickup and since I work from home I didn't need to stow it often. In the end I had to move it to another location using a different mount for permanent placement due to large trees near my house.

My first thought after receiving my gen 2 dish was magnets. 4 66lb on the stand that came with my starlink did the trick. Now I can take it down or move it in seconds without holes. Idk why more people aren't doing this.

Would have been cool to get a link for those magnets. Super cool idea. It's -28 C . I really don't want to get out the ladder start drilling holes worried about the roof potentially leaking. It also would have been better for starlink to give some mounting options. I mean they could have thrown in some bolts. And 2 styles of mounting bracket. Or atleast ask there customers what braket they will use.

Hello! I just seen your video a weekend ago and I bought the magnets you used and I'm wondering if you and make the wholes on the dish bigger for the bolts?

Nope the bolts I linked to are the perfect size for the included tripod mount.

Still holding strong with no issues! I also recently checked the magnets and I do not see any break down of the rubber coating.
