Something I have on wifi, is a flo by moen system. Allows you to shut down your main water valve in the event of a sudden water pipe burst. It works automatically if set to away mode. I also monitor and time out my water heater from my phone using Aquanta system. Both are around $500 each system but I love them both. Just a thought.

Ubiquiti unifi ap ac are outdoor wireless routers that mesh. I put one on the house and one in the garage and now I have wifi on the entire property. 1000ft is no issues. They are plug and play, I love them, definitely recommend them to anyone with a large property with bad cell service, I use wifi calling on my phone. This setup allowed me to cancel my home phone.

I have a smart switch plug to my tractor block heater so I can turn it on when needed without having to get outside and plug it manually. My tractor is not store in an heated place and here in Montreal it can be very cold. When there's a snowfall (an we have a lot here) I can heat my tractor from work, get home and snowblow without worriing that the tractor won't start.

I ordered my Starlink Internet last April and I just got an email stating my order was ready to ship. Here an idea for extending your internet signal thoughout the house. Purchase a TP-Link Deco Mess Network kit. It comes with 3 pod shaped extenders. You just plug one in on each floor and connect them to the Starlink router and the Deco Mess network will allow devices to connect wirelessly and each pod also has a ethernet connection if you want to connect something via Ethernet cable.

I found that the pipe on Dishy is a perfect fit for one inch PVC schedule 40 conduit, into the flared end.
I stood up a 4x4 post, used clamps to attach a vertical piece of the said conduit and, voila! Done. That being said, the built in locks in the bottom of Dishy don’t engage to anything but realistically, my Dishy isn’t going anywhere.
Also, put the router on a UPS. It’s nice to still have internet access even when the power goes out, which it does frequently in my rural area.

I can relate. 5 years last month and no reliable internet svc out here in rural TX where we moved. Sporadic cell internet which was expensive and unreliable. More than once we were summarily cut off using a cellular hotspot we got off ebay. Then more recently we couldn't get cellular internet at a reasonable price. Along comes Starlink. We connected up 5 days ago, now. So far so good. We have become so 'gun-shy' with come and go internet that it will take some time, having reliable internet, before we relax. The cell companies need this competition and loss of business to get real with their pricing and service.

About 2 years ago when it was installed, we got like 30-32 mbps consistently. Now we're lucky to get around 8 to 12 and that's max. Anyway, you did a fantastic install and very professional. I pray it works great for yall.

I am not sure it is the same technology, but the extender I use for the garage was the same used by SSL Family Dad at their old farm. You plug one device into a wall socket near the WiFi router in the house, and the other in the shop and it uses the copper in the house to extend it to the shop and then create another WiFi signal. Pretty slick and only about $100 at the time.

The reason your extender is slower is the one in the description only gets up to 100 mbps. The EX7500 gets up to 250mbps. Just throwing that out there in case you get another one.

      @kd5inm 2 роки тому

I agree, I mentioned to Evan that he should swap the starlink up to the top floor and move the extender to the basement. Put the starlink up high so it has better range around the property. He may have problems if he's going to put in a bunch of cameras or other gadgets with a lack of bandwidth and latency from the extender. I would take that extender back and get a LAN port for the starlink device and then run a proper fast router or switch and run cat 5 to the barn and other locations and then use a router at those locations to tie wifi devices into.

Great job on the Star Link install! Just remember that on your live steams, it’s your upload speed that is important. 2 meg should be ok, but keep that in mind. I’m a retired IT manager and am not afraid of new technology. We have an 800 foot driveway, and driveway alarms are definitely a good thing (but don’t need wifi for that), knowing when a delivery comes is great! Also, we know when deer come up our driveway at sunset and sunrise. Arlo cameras are great, and we added wifi enabled thermostat.

I have the indoor Wyze cams on our covered porches and it alerts on motion to my phone. At $24 each it was cheap security without buying the outdoor cam setup. I was thinking of doing a channel called My porch since there is a cat house out there and I leave food out so Cardinals and Blue Jays are here constantly, our cat comes and goes to the house, stray cats and 4-5 racoons visit every night too. It all gets recorded to a micro SD card in the cameras.

We love the lutron light switches with their "smart bridge", but any kind of smart light switch is great for turning exterior or interior lights on from your phone, or to have them come on automatically when you're not around. Also love having a smart switch on our coffee pot so i can prep the pot the night before and walk out into the kitchen with fresh hot coffee lol. Great job as usual!

We really enjoyed your video. That's a bear of a pipe mount, for sure - NOTHING can blow that around, LOL! And nice welds, too. Like you, we're rural (southern PA), waited a year and just got our Starlink in February. We've been pleased. Once and a while, kind of at random it seems, the speeds slow down, but overall, they're similar to yours. Luckily, our unit worked correctly out of the box, so I have to say that overall this is a wonderful piece of tech. The one downside, unfortunately, does seem to be Customer Service. It takes WAY to long to hear back from them and half the time it seems like they only half read our e-mail. Sometimes I almost get the feeling they try to just tell you whatever they need to to get you to go away, but by the same token, I'm sure they're VERY busy due to the huge increase in customers. Hopefully Customer Service will improve because it's critical to keeping customers happy. The other negative thing is shipping accessories like the pole mount - took us five or six weeks to get ours and, like you, we had to do a temporary mount with the provided base in the interim. BTW I have an Ambient 2902C weather station and I love it. Beautiful display, good WiFi signal and you can read it online via PWS, Ambient Weather or wherever you set up an account.

I bet it's a relief to finally have internet :). If I can recommend something you might want to try if you have the time and if feasible.
I would set your Starlink router on the main floor. If this is the area where you spend most of your time you'll be able to use the 5GHz network for your main devices and daily internet access. It will give you the best throughput (but the smallest coverage) and should cover your entire first floor. Then run your repeater in the basement. The basement will be covered by either the 5GHz or 2.4GHz band depending on how far you are from the repeater.
Having the main router on the first floor will allow you to get the widest coverage on both bands, especially when you start looking into smart devices (which most of them run on 2.4GHz network). Having the repeater upstairs will work but as you saw it cuts your bandwidth by a tremendous amount.
The repeater in the basement will most likely allow you to get very decent coverage in the yard/behind the house (most likely using the 2.4GHz network but it should do it automatically).
I'm not sure how the Starlink router is configured or setup but if you can, I would run a direct burial cable from your main router to the barn. Then use an AP (access point using a second router) setup in your barn that way you also get full coverage in your barn and have minimal bandwidth loss in the barn. Your barn will then also have wifi access through the AP on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz band for your wireless devices. Bandwidth will be a tad lower than in the house (main floor) but still a lot better than any wireless signal you'll get from trying to connect wirelessly from the barn to the house. I'm sure you've noticed but the barn will totally block your wifi signal from the outside in the same manner your basement ceiling does. It's a bit of a pain to figure out but hopefully this will help in case you run into coverage issues with your current setup.
The above is similar to my current situation but I'm running a wired connection (through a switch) between our house and 2 out buildings/barns that are about 300 feet away and so far it's been spotless. Especially if you plan on adding any kind of wireless cam/security system to your other buildings.
Sorry for the long comment :)

Welding is a skill that is a acquired skill, 20 years ago I wanted a flat bed for one of my trucks where the box was completely shot. $600.00 in steel and I started my first welding project, never welded prior. My cousin who I lived with gave me a crash corse on welder operation and from there it was all a teach urself process. 20 years later I will say I'm not a professional by any means but when ever now I need something built I usally end up building what I need myself or fixing what I need to fix. The welder I own now has saved me thousands of dollars over the years in fabrication shop expneses. When someone asks me now where I've bought someting I simply say "I built it". Often times I get crazy looks and shocked expression on there face, don't ever be afraid to build what you need for your farm as that whole concept goes a far way when it comes to customization of your farm needs.

If you run a lan line to the extender your speeds will increase drastically where you are connected to the extender. It is the wifi part of the extender from the Starlink wifi router to the extender that is slowing your speeds down so much. Great job on the installation. Nice to have internet at home. Thanks for the videos.

Another respondant on here said the extender is the bottleneck that its only good up to 100. The starlink router is faster than the extender on wifi. Its not the wifi link, its the extender is not capable. Evan needs to swap positions of the starlink and extender. Put starlink up high for cameras and devices on the property so he has the bandwidth to run everything. Put extender downstairs if they aren't using wifi downstairs much.

Check out Phillips HUE light bulbs. They offer bulbs and LED light strips that work on WiFi. We really like ours!

I’m in the same boat. Been waiting for StarLink for over a year now and still not any internet and what’s more frustrating, no updates from them on when to expect it. We do get their generic complaints about no chips. Well, if that’s the big problem, why not spend what it takes to get the chip production back in the states and put more Americans back to work?

IoT and smart gadgets get outdated and discontinued very quick, and vendors often lock you in. There is a fantastic whole world of DIY stuff, like the Raspberry PI and a lot of other fun maker things.

You can check your extender to see if you can increase your throughput. Also there are extenders witch have longer range and some witn increased signal. Is your extender a combination unit witch can do 2.4 and 5g.
5g is most likely cleaner but 2.4 is like a bulldozer.
Great video enjoy your content have a great day.

Great Job Evan I bet it’s so nice to watch the tv rather than your phones now. And a livestream would be great!
