Really struggling with the section 5 minutes in, my solids won't snap like the video does even though the setting appear the same in the app bar. The sides of the box end up nowhere near each other. What am I doing wrong? Also they're not staying square but getting transformed.
For everyone looking for *SOLUTION* *TO* *SNAPPING* *SOLIDS* *TO* *THE* *SIDES* *OF* *THE* *BOX*... You must check Snapping in action panel (where the options like fill or stroke are usually placed). Hope it helped ;)
One small addition: once the snapping box has been clicked, don't actually click on the red squares. instead, click close to them (but within the square itself) and the square should highlight immediately and will snap when dragged close to corners. Took me a few tries to figure this out! hope it helps y'all.
Am I crazy or does this end up being like 500x the speed of what he shows it being. Followed every setting exactly and mine moves so fast it hurts my eyes.
Thanks for the tut, but I guess you could have used a 2D shape layer instead of building a '"real" cube, well at least for this specific effect ;) Somehow I still try to have AE run at max speed by using as few and simple FX as possible, although computers have become a lot faster over the years :P
I could have used a 2D shape, but I wanted to avoid the corners not matching up and stuff. But yeah, if you have a cube with the right perspective, then totally you can use a 2d shape!
Hey! I found the author.. name is 'admiral potato' and this gif is called 'marching ants' .. the original post is on tumblr ! :)

Thanks Akshar!
Nice. I am going to try that in PowerPoint.
lol wut
Great tutorial, greetings from Tucuman, Argentina. The snap part at 5:27 was very hard.
really interesting tutorial

Hell yeah Tonny B, thanks a million

@@2HHB Thank you a lot!
8:35 to 8:42, I’ve laughed my ass off. 🤣 you’re unintentionally funny bro. Awesome tutorial btw.
it's lmao u boomer
Wow, what an awesome tutorial.
AE has a default radiowaves effect that you can use to make the moving triangles. Then all you gotta do is mask it out into a cube shape .
Good to know, thanks for the tip!
Great tutorial! would love to know some of the reasons behind the choices made next time to why we got to the final product!
Am I crazy or does this end up being like 500x the speed of what he shows it being. Followed every setting exactly and mine moves so fast it hurts my eyes.
Weird question, but couldn't you just create a mask in the shape of a hexagon and use that as the alpha instead of the 3d cube thing?
I made that bloody snap all evening, but I finally it's done! 🥵
hey! what is your keyboard shortcuts for place and scale your solid calc (5min27) for created 3D Cubes ? thx
Idk if you still need it but there's a box on top called snapping, click on it and it will be the same as the video
Thank you so much for the tutorial! Keep doing good work you legend!!!
Thanks for watching!
Liked before watching heh!
Of course, top quality video tutorial! One day when I grow up I want to be just like you! LOL
How do you do this with custom shapes?
Awesome!! keep it up!!
great tutorial as always
what is the song in the beginning? it is so chill
Why did you not just create a mask for the initial star to make that shape? :D
Is there a way to echo something and have it be a gradient.
So the triangle would start red but end blue. then go back to red, etc.
5:27 please specify your tutorial
I'm old school. I used venetian blinds...
relly nice
rely nais tat
Im trying to add gradient ramp, but it overlays the entire layers instead of individual triangles. what am i missing?
Why my polystar dont have inner and outer radius ?
Solved: Uncheck Bezier path before creating star.
Please help, how to fix 3d corner any shortcut key?
second 10 and I liked it
my corners still aren't snapping. I cannot make the 3D box for some reason.
It could be you don't have snapping check marked.
I’ve followed your steps and cannot get it to echo (repeat itself). Help!
i can't find the 3d button in the timeline thingy to rotate in 3d.
whenever i add ramp onto the triangles, it just makes them into one 3d cube, that covers the triangles.
same thing here, have u sort it out?
same thing. How do you solve this..
Finally, worked this out. You need to take out the "fill" from your original Triangle composition. I set opacity to "0." Hope this helps someone
Just ty :)
coool
how do you snap the solids ??
to the corners I mean
On a mac, hold command and click.
Thank you so much my friend.
how do you do it on windows ?
Ctrl-Click
Reminds me of labyrinth in rocket league xD. but for real might use that in an intro :P
It's a pretty sick look. I really dig it. The original artist is really onto something with this.

Using the polygon tool with 6 six sides gives you the perfect outline ;)
5;27 please share the shortcut.
Probably could've made the cube with a square and used AE's new extrude options with the C4D renderer. Cool look!
Yeah I could have also made a hexagon, but you just get less control. I need to explore the new extrude, haven't spent much time in it.
Very true. For something like making a matte like this, the new extrude would be perfect. It's dead simple. :)
AAAAAAAAAAuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!
You could have used the Radio wave effect, in fact i think that's what the autor used
Hmm I've never used that effect. I'll give it a shot! Thanks for the tip Remi
I've seen it in the really good tutorial on videocopilot, "animated polygone", it's so cool you might as well check it out ;)
My result: twitter.com/Iamtheone95/status/1151878224328253442
I used After Effects CS6, without having the "snapping" feature in CC.
I did it in 3min with radio wave... just saying. *fly away
Why use the tutorial when you can use the gif? Boom big brain time
