The game was made during covid... not the best period to make videogames, they even explained it during an interview.

@@Kintarrosmuch like Bayonetta 1, this game was probably made on a budget. Also, doing it this way allows for your costume changes to be visible during cutscenes.

Watching this playthrough was constant whiplash of "Kasane is literally me" and "WAIT WHY ARE YOU SO STUPID GIRL STOP JUST TALK TO HI-" *blocked*
I also appreciate that the editing does not explain when or why you have angry eyes or a knife. They just appear and you're left to just be like "yeah, that looks right."

You feel exactly how I feel 12:59. This game got such great reviews for the game play but the STORY is all over the place I couldn't play for more than a few hours without a break.
I must say, the ultra-blunt dialogue kasane sometimes drops out of nowhere is very enjoyable, even when I have no idea what the hell is going on
I appreciate that she just tells people to fuck off if she doesn't like them, that's a rare trait in an anime girl.

@@merpymerpington9175Scarlet Nexus is actually very sensical. You just have to play both stories. I think giving the option to play as Kasane at the start was a bad idea because there's a lot of stuff in Kasane's story that makes no sense without playing Yuito's story
Initially I wasn't fond of Kasane because she felt like a bad 2B clone, but she grew on me when I accepted she's the Neutral Dumb to Yuito's Chaotic Dumb.

I am all for Part 2 just because watching you lose your mind was super entertaining. Truly an artist suffering for their art.
Scarlet Nexus is a game I really want to like but there's SO MANY things I can't look past. And your final thoughts of the game are the same ones I have "GAHHHHH"😂
So only about 2 minutes in, and shen made the mistake I did. Kasane's story is so focused on the world building that it is overwhelming for first-time play. You have to go with Yuito first if you don't want to be absolutely mindf***ed with story stuff.

I relate to Shen breaking games in the strangest ways. Trying to do two things at the same time, or changing your mind at the very last second, makes that happen more than you'd expect.
this game has been sitting on my wishlist for a while (I am bad at spending money), and I can't tell if this video has made me want to play it more or less

"Cutscenes" - two options why they are like this
1. the devs overestimated themselves and couldn't deliver something better
2. the devs were cutting corners from the start
(my noid is telling me it's the second)
Mainly budgetary constraints from what I've researched

I saw the first stream and the moment I saw that the cutscenes would be two pngs flipping back and forth with each other I felt my soul wither away.

I've never played this game but just from watching this video, the writing is SO stilted holy crap
no, you not alone..I still think about the people on the moon twist and how unbelievable it felt from time to time. The game certainly has its good aspects with its combat. though i find the game to be too damn repetitive to save it.
From watching this it feels like the kind of anime plot where they just throw a bunch of characters, organizations and terms at you to make it seem like something clever is going on but they never actually bothered to like actually write a deep and interesting story. The fact that the enemy design is like that and is clearly meant to seem symbolic of something and they're called “Other” makes me even more sure of this.

Well at least it's merely _laughable._ You can still treat that like a B-movie. In comparison eg. _God Eater_ quickly got so ball-punchingly stupid I quit it in actual disgust halfway in so... yeah. (GE2 was okay tho, then 3 went headfirst down the drain...)

I feel like you should play Astral Chain, it does a lot of the same things as this game (weird dimensional stuff, anime themes and plot twists, just overall similar ascetic) but with an infinetly better story
This game has been on my wishlist for so long. And I often got 80-90% steam sales. Now it makes sense why.

I don’t know why, but the slideshow cutscenes really angered me. Maybe it was the fact it would go into actual cutscene for short period of time where nothing actually happens then jump immediately into slideshow when something actually starts, maybe it’s because they try so hard to be action filled to such an insane degree despite the fact it’s all still images, or maybe it’s the wacky and insane way they try to frame the pictures to make it look more action packed. No matter what I hate it.

fun fact! the co-developers of this game (Keita Iizuka and Kenji Anabuki) also worked on some games in the "tales of" series! its my favorite series of all time. shen if you played a tales game (symphonia is a good start but not the "remastered" version) i would simply pass away

See I was just minding my business rewatching this while playing Tales of arise and I find out that apparently the same people who made that made this slideshow PowerPoint of a game.
Which is WILD considering that most of the stuff in ToA is animated

All I know about this game is that there is an anime about it, and oral cigarettes (the people behind the second noragami opening) is responsible for the opening, red criminal, and it’s really good. I wanna listen to it again.
Scarlet Nexus feels like an experiment in game development. The graphics overall are nice, the combat is fun, the OST is BANGING. But the presentation of it is... something to be desired. The voice cast is fine IMO, but there's something so off-putting about making a lot of the cutscenes being still-images. Did they have to ration their budget? Was it a deliberate choice? It clearly wasn't for lack of wanting to, because the animated scenes we do get are rather nice.
It also takes the "multiple playthroughs are required to see the whole story" thing to such a weird level. Since you can choose who you're playing as, you can either pick the route with the least amount of insanity (though still a lot of it), and come out the other end curious and questioning what's going on. Or you can pick the route that throws you straight into the deep end, leaving you more or less baffled the entire time and guessing what the hell is going on at every turn. (Guess which one Shen picked ;w;) And even after you do both, there's still so much to ask about. But I digress, I think this game is a gem in the sands, it has a lot going for it that I love, and so much else that I absolutely despise. And that's not even to talk about individual character's writing.
Hopefully it was at least a fun experience! I found myself enjoying the game after accepting how crazy it gets, and it's still stylistically one of my favourite games from the past decade.

Like every conversation and dialogue feels like they expect you to already know everything they're saying like "*oh the gobbledygook kingdom must be working with the thingamajig clan!*" with absolutely no way to actually tell you what anything they're saying even means like I just walked into a random conversation with zero context to practically everything
Also tf is up with the cutscenes??? Like if I wanted to witness a slideshow, I would use Powerpoint

Sadly COVID happened at this time of development on the game and the company workforce and time was slashed down to less than half.. As well as these are literally Persona-like cutscenes and dialogues that got really overly popular that a massive amount of developers started trying to copy them because people found them 'good' and they were cheaper on the companies to make..

I'm about 10 minutes in and I have no idea what's going on in this game by watching this video, but considering how good the editing normally is and how well the other videos abbreviate their respective playthroughs, this must an issue with the game, not the editing

I was really surprised to see that this game even existed because I played a similar game called Tales Of Arise but honestly the story and characters is A LOT better than this one and you get actual combat scenes. So I do recommend it. Also the bird on your head is the mascot of that game. ^^ amazing video though! I was going insane with you with this story ngl

This game both infuriated, and disappointed me so much back when I played it. Like... *this* is what they tried to turn into a multi-media franchise?
Sometimes I can kinda see what they were (probably) going for, there's some ambition in there, but the team were simply not skilled nor talented enough to pull it off. They went in way over their heads.
I stuck with it till the end, because when time travel shenanigans are involved, I figured *maybe* they'd do something that made it all worth it (pure copium), but the ending just made everything worse. If I recall correctly, they literally call themselves out for not fixing more things, and at that point why even bring it up?
Why would you give me this, and not Code Vein 2, or God Eater 4?
