@dragonlink2032 100% agree this was great, and I've always enjoyed Scott's thoughts and views on the things he likes. Let's me enjoy things in a way I may not have thought of or saw. Also, commenting to help the algorithm
Doubling up on your comment because it was pretty much all my same thoughts. I love the animation cut-aways for important parts or surprise happenings. Scott's animations are just so expressive and fun. They make everything better.
Honestly, videos like this are exactly my jam. You doing a thing, and cutting in your animation where it would be comically appropriate. That's what initially got me interested in your stuff way back when with the Overwatch Side of Salts. I enjoyed you discussing your PoV on a character in the game (as I was just getting into it, I've long since stopped playing it), and cutting in with funny animations. Your speedrun animations were amazing, such as the Wind Waker / Link's Awakening... all of them really. This kind of content is what I'm hear for. Whether it is positive or negative, I'm just after an *_HONEST_* opinion. *_THAT_* is what matters to me, Scott. Well, that and seeing someone explore games I might not know about, or have the money or initial interest in to see it in action. Helps change minds about exploring something.
"Even if over the years I've learned a shocking number of people have never played them." Man you have no idea how true this is. I've been writing a fully custom tabletop RPG system and decided "Hey, a playtest using a Zelda setting would be fun, and should get a lot of potential playtesters' attention!" But literally 90% of the people I've approached have been like "Uh, I mean, I know what Zelda is I guess, but I haven't really played it."
That always catches me off guard because there are some games that I consider an "everyone has probally played this once because it's so easy to access and a great game".
The most disarming thing is, in the last 10 years, if someone in their 20's says "Yeah I've played Zelda" they probably mean Breath of the Wild and nothing else, which is to say they probably understand the setting in that context and nothing else.
I made a DnD module and I just pre-empted it with a one-page sheet that explains the most important details of the setting. You can shorten it a lot by telling folks that it's basically a sword-and-sorcery setting. I also made a shockingly comprehensive monster manual, though I was very intentional about keeping the CR's relatively low since LoZ isn't really a setting for high-level DnD characters, thematically.
@@lightninstriker10 TBF, I like that setting too. OoT confused me enough as a little kid that it put me off, and I really only enjoyed returning to it as an adult with less stupid in my head. The surreal darkness of OoT and Majora's Mask is pretty cool, but I also genuinely love the fleshed out world with lots of RP and fanfic possibility that BotW and TotK have. The older settings are very inspiring for more linear storytelling, the newer settings are very inspiring in terms of broader world-building. As such, for tabletop games like OP is talking about, I actually prefer the newer settings since they fit the social dynamics and tone of tabletop games.
NO! NO YOU! DANGIT SCOTTFALCO I WAITED MONTHS FOR THIS THIRTY MINUTE VIDEO AND NOW I CAN'T WATCH IT BECAUSE I WANNA PLAY THAT GAME UNSPOILED! (I turned off my speakers and let it play in the background so you still got the view.)
I really enjoyed this review, Scott. I love the little animated sections, especially. The real and genuine takes, the frustration, the joy, the actual breakdown and analysis. All very fun and informative. If there's one constructive criticism I can offer on the 'being taken as negative', I think it's that your voice can (especially for people who ONLY have watched your 'Side of Salt's) at times come off as terse. Not mean but firm and forward, which sort of primes people for negativity. The nice slower talking sections really do emphasize that you're not mad or annoyed, just passionate and direct. Same with the upbeat and energetic parts. Idk, maybe I'm reading too much into it as a voice actor. *shrug* Either way, I really had fun watching this and am gonna go hit up this demo!
I find it surprising that it would be Navi, the notorious tutorial slog of a side character, who made Links life miserable after their disappearance. But then again, they were always there for him, unlike pretty much everyone else…
Y'all greatly exaggerate how intrusive Navi is. 95% of the time you can just ignore her. The most pushy she is during the first dungeon was because it was the first time players experienced a 3D space, so the devs wanted her to hold your hand a bit to get adjusted. Meanwhile Fi is SO much worse, she forces you to stop so often just to tell you there's a certain percent chance your objective is ahead, or that your wiimote batteries are running low. Now THAT is insufferable.
This is the first video of yours I've seen, but the animated bits were awesome! I usually put on longer videos while I crochet, but all the animated parts genuinely made me stop, rewind, and watch them again!!! I'll be looking forward to similar styled videos in the future! ❤❤ Keep up the great work!
The animated bits are amazing, the general vibe you tend to share is amazing. Honestly, the reaction to the jumpscare was the best bit (even better when it showed up again).
honestly, the pacing in this video was great, especially with the little animations, they added more flavor and life to the video, just watching you play and ramble on was nice, and it's goot to have you back mr. falco! please give yourself more credit man
9:10 sidle squad checking in to call you out, watching my character that holds way too many things support themselves using just their fingertips while wielding weaponry or shields always makes me chuckle
My favorite part of this game is that there is a way to lose out on a bottle by reading the message inside it before giving it to the person who wants it.
I really, REALLY like the idea of making more "story based" videos where you play a game and talk over it as a story and sharing your experience. It sets up a whole "plot line" and purpose to watch, if that makes sense. It's more engaging, and reminds me of how Alpharad does his videos. I'm all on board for you sharing your experience playing a fun game, is basically what I'm saying, lol
For a channel with so much Zelda content it’s actually weird seeing an actual (sorta) zelda game on screen. Also 20:05 the shippers weakness being the canon is clever as hell
The things I loved about this video: the editing, the gags, the mod itself, the animation and your voice The things I didn't like about it: that it's over
Impressed with the animation over dubs, so much humor packed into each segment, great writing and overall in depth presentation. great Submission to the collective. loved this piece. more please. keep creating!
I absolutely love that the fairy is Tael. It really does a lot for me to make this feel like an official sequel. We had Navi, then Majora gave us Tatl with Tael just being there. Having this round it out by using the last fairy we haven't had feels so cool.
All of the animation parts for Link were such a mood. Also never heard of Indigo before this, but glad your video can introduce the game to people like me, who hadn't heard of it until now
Any Scott animation is good animation. Always happy to watch anything you create! More fun/obscure romhacks with your animations would be fun to watch!
I really enjoyed this format! It's nice to see you cover stuff you enjoy. I think the balance of covering the actual content of the game versus making jokes etc is really good, which people tend to underestimate the importance of. It would be nice to see more of your animation, since they're always top tier! I don't really have any points of critique personally, it's just an enjoyable vid!
Honestly, I love this kind of content! - You've used your influence to showcase a really cool project - You still keep the kind of humor I love to see - Pacing is spot on - You kept some content out for the sake of the viewers experience with the game - The small animation moments were a great touch Overall I like the direction you're heading and hope to enjoy more content like this!
12:03 In fairness, it also improves the effectiveness of healing items, doubling their value with respect to that heart in particular (a full heart effectively heals two, a half heart heals one)
I find it odd that defeating the Stalfos that Kaska turned into is supposed to be the _bad_ option. You'd think releasing her from that curse would be a _good_ thing.
I imagine it's more a case of desecrating the dead. With Kaska's remains destroyed she can't properly move on to the afterlife and rest after everything.
I’d actually like to see if they play it that way in the full version. Seems like it might be a case of everyone having the wrong idea, kind of like everyone being scared of Wolf Link.
I was under the impression Kaska’s spirit was the only thing left protecting the forest from danger since the Great Deku Tree was dead. It’s similar to Ocarina of Time in how Kokiri Forest becomes overrun with monsters after the Great Deku Tree’s death.
Yeah, but one thing you also have to consider is that some spirits like to stay and watch over their people and may not always see people who do graverobbing as friendly, even if your intentions are noble.
Aww… Link feels upset about crushing the little minish… poor guy must have so much on his psyche. When I play the final version, I’ll definitely try to avoid the lil fella. Especially since I love the minish as a race.
I loved the script for this video! You have such a unique writing and speaking style and it felt like a perfect balance between recounting the romhack and your own delightful comedy! I am personally fond of your little bursts of alliteration, some videos its used a bit too much but this vid had it sprinkled in just enough. Can't wait for the next one!!
im always happy to find people who are willing to talk passionately about the things they like. and although i know you mostly got things going by being salty, who hasnt been salty? emotions are what i want, and the more recent stuff you have made gives a lot of it. honestly, just keep doing you.
Scott just do what you want, ive been watching you for over 7 years. If your still funny animation guy like youve always been then do what you want, take sponsors or dont, whatever pays the bills.
Really enjoyed this video! Learning about random rom hacks in this manner is really fun because I’m not in that community directly so I only hear about them when someone likes one enough to take time to tell people about them. I agree with a lot of the other comments and yourself, the animated bits sprinkled around add just the right thing to this type of video.
Personally I'm just glad to see you cover something you are interested in. My favorite content of yours are the videos going over games ive never played like this one, or when you streamed mega man. Especially the old splatoon 2 content with CC in it. I prefer a 20 minute video of you talking about a topic you like with your sense of humor and little bits of animation here and there to "New thing with a side of salt" thats 7 minutes long and basically an animated review. But I understand the algorithm must be followed somehow. And frankly I've been here since the overwatch days so I'm happy to see you excited about your content again.
I am absolutely in support of you just doing what you wanna do, regardless of what form that takes. This more narrative style of video absolutely drew me in and got me stoked for the final release of this romhack. And it still has your signature sense of humor in a lot of ways.
really liked the video man, you got a great sense of humor and the animations are very charming, i also really loved that video of twitch chat torturing you in majora's mask, it's a video i really enjoy rewatching from time to time!
Honestly this video was great. It showed me something I never knew and you made it really interesting. Also enjoyed the small animations scattered here and there in the video too. Really nice just hearing you talk about a game that you enjoyed.

Love the animated bits mixed in with the humor, also loved the way it wasn't a walk-through but more of a generalized overview of the game with your brand of humor. Keep up the good work and glad to see you back in the swing of things!
I bet those Mario Maker (2) moments wouldn't have been so Mario Maker if you DIDN'T FEEL THE NEED TO PULL A HOMER SIMPSON ON KASKA! You brought it on yourself.
Great to see a new vid from you. I really liked the animated snippets you put in. Plus the 20 - 30 minutes length of the video seems to be just right to not just brush over a game too quickly, without making the video a whole essay.
I can't wait when the game is done and Scott, you do enough as it is. Just being excited that you upload a video makes me smile man. I also once and awhile pop into your stream and go crazy about them. All in all, just do your best and I'll be there watching(in a not so creepo way).
Please do a full playthrough of the game/romhack on here when it's fully released. Really like this video and would love to see your reaction to the whole thing
I always enjoy your animated bits in your videos, Scott, and the humor you present with them. Not only that, your commentary is very informative, straight to the point as needed, and easily holds attention due to the occational bits of humor you sprinkle in. This video was well worth the wait and effort to me.
New Scott Falco video! I’m honestly surprised this was the topic. But it makes sense that’s it’s so long when it’s also a bit of a walkthrough. This feels a bit like the first videos of your’s that I saw which were the animated speed-runs. I hope you are being to feel better after all you went through this year!
With the line about returning Kaska's blade to her tomb, I wonder if that could actually be an option in the future. Maybe not to "make up" for killing her spirit, but it could be a thing you do in the good route, after getting your upgrade? IDK
That was a good video! I would watch more of this style of content from you, especially if it's making you more motivated to continue making content. Most of the animated bits made me laugh too, especially the zombie jumpscare XD
Critique here, I love this video! I am always going to hope that you find a way to bring back Speedrun animations or something similar, because I love the comedy in those, but your work is a joy to watch as always, whatever you do with it. :) Also, cool romhack! I don't play romhacks often, but I might have to check this one out when it's finished! Thanks for the recommendation!
To be honest, this is the first time I've watched one of your videos, as it was suggested to me on my YT homepage. While you said this was a new style for you, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The animations in between really brought character, and how you shared your playthrough made me go sign up for your and Kentonm's pages. Thanks so much for sharing this video!
I really liked this video!! The brief animations throughout are fun, and honestly I'm more eager to hear about mods than the games proper. Mods dont really get advertised or talked about as broadly as base games so videos like these have been my introduction to a lot of cool fan projects! Also the shift to praising things you like instead of ragging on things you don't is definitely appreciated, there's just so much negativity on the internet already that even when its done jokingly, I just feel exhausted watching spite-fueled stuff. But yeah, I liked this a lot!
I'm glad you're back, and I would love to see more videos like this. The sides of salt are what built you up, but now I believe you expanding into different attitudes and styles of videos will do great hope to see more.
I love your mix of animated bits and gameplay footage. It's what drew me to your content in the first place and it makes the videos so much more engaging
Okay, to Arin's defense, the design of this game's dungeon traps are exactly what the Zelda Sequelitis complained about, except the traps are entirely hidden from view, inside of the corner of walls, programmed to punish you for taking the rewards you find, instead of easily telegraphed spike pucks that control the main floor of the room. To credit Arin's point, this game's design for traps has a case of rudely intentional , "extreme difficulty fangame design" made to inconvenience you than control space and challenge the traversal of rooms. I hope the dev could revise the "GOTCHA!!" hostility of the traps and make them more telegraphed, like, just make the pendulum traps just traditional, slow swinging damage traps that control the pace of progressing hallways, or instead of arrow traps that spike the approach of rewards, the deathpucks or surprise enemy encounters for treasure chest rooms. The fact that the current build punishes you by shooting with arrows just for stepping up to an item chest, makes the game look as annoying to play as it would feel.
He overplayed the traps in the ship. The arrows do quarter hearts and you can see the holes they come out of (plus the first set is telegraphed so you know to look for them. The guillotine is a gotcha moment but it's near the end of the dungeon where it's been feeding you that it's a trap heavy place and you should be more careful, if you do get hit by it you lose at most 1 second of time. The dungeon was more than fair playing it.
I love your animated bits you add into your narrative! It really highlights YOUR experience and makes it really fun to see exagerated moments. My personal favorites being the jumpscare redead and Link/yourself sweating at the guilt of what happened in the forest.
Really enjoyed this one. Super interested in checking out this mod now and you highlighted it in a way thats incredibly exciting! My one complaint is that I feel that you go into too much detail when covering some of these dungeons. Zelda games are at their best when the player can solve the puzzles for for themselves, so rather than walk the viewer through each puzzle, only showcase one or two that grab your interest and leave the details for the viewer to experience. Hope this makes sense. Wishing you the best in your push toward a more positive outlook on content! Cheers!
seconded! it seemed like for this kind of video, where its a more condensed summary and overview of the mod, the dungeon portions seemed morr like walkthroughs then the rest. i adore watching playthroughs though, but comparatively it seemed like dungeons were much more longwinded then overworld. was still a fun watch though and im glad to see you do a video on something you enjoy- something i very much enjoy seeing myself
I'm so glad you're working on more positive content, because that's the content I enjoy from your channel! I can go anywhere on the web for some negative nancy making quips about games, but seeing passion, seeing enjoyment, and highlighting the good in the sea of bad shit is important, its something I want to see more of, and I look forward to seeing what you've got next.
"i like a darker Zelda game without it going too far over the edge" *meanwhile, well past the edge by this point for what feels like a creepypasta moment*
There's having a dark tone, and then there's being cynical and mean-spirited. I think a Zelda game can somewhat get away with the former but definitely not the latter - that's antithetical to what the series is about. The horror elements are fine, but I think having Link accidentally stepping on minishes or ruining the lives of NPCs because he did the quests wrong makes it feel like an overly edgy parody. I do like the idea of an older and somewhat bitter Link living alone as a hermit until he has to get back in the saddle, and the game starts out cold and kinda depressing as he has to relearn how to be a hero. That's a fantastic setup for some great character development. (Though, you can not convince me that a Link who is a veteran of two games would not have a sword stashed away in his cabin just in case.)
@@RelativelyBest "makes it feel like an overly edgy parody." i had this similar problem playing The Missing Link romhack. that could have used a whole re-write IMO though.😅

Really enjoyed this video, do feel free to do more of it! My only real feedback is that there were a lot of jokes that are visual only, so sometimes the listening experience ends up being interrupted long silences that are clearly a visual joke with no payoff in the audio. Visual jokes are fine of course, but something should be there in the audio as well.
Genuinely some of the best animation bits that flow into the videos. I think you’ve gotten really good at them over the years but with sides of salt it sometimes feels like the animations are like family guy cut aways. But I would love to see more videos like this that just cover something you enjoyed and gives a glimpse into your personal playthrough
Great video, personally what I like best about videos like this is how you divulge into the parts you like best, the way you phrase those make them stand out even more
This is a really cool mod, and I'm intrigued to see what it holds in the future. I've always enjoyed these videos where you go into a bit of a skimming through the game with the sprinkled in animations to give it more character. I understand wanting to step away from the side of salts. People change and they don't always want to stick to a negative mindset for the sake of retention. Do what makes you happy Scott.

"Even if over the years I've learned a shocking number of people have never played them."
Man you have no idea how true this is.
At least your play testers know what Zelda is
The most disarming thing is, in the last 10 years, if someone in their 20's says "Yeah I've played Zelda" they probably mean Breath of the Wild and nothing else, which is to say they probably understand the setting in that context and nothing else.

21:47 *a voice echoes in the distance* "Is this the courage you were entrusted with? How disappointing..."
*shrug*
Either way, I really had fun watching this and am gonna go hit up this demo!
I find it surprising that it would be Navi, the notorious tutorial slog of a side character, who made Links life miserable after their disappearance. But then again, they were always there for him, unlike pretty much everyone else…
Not only Navi made life miserable for kid me, it made it miserable for “kid” Link during majora’s mask
Yeah, having her around was one of the only sources of comfort for the Well, Shadow Temple portion of the game.
@@PrismOpal64 THANK YOU. Navi gets too much shit she doesn't deserve

2:06 I just got whiplash because of the video clip of the flip a dip dip, its been so long and you have change a lot, keep up whit the good work
For a channel with so much Zelda content it’s actually weird seeing an actual (sorta) zelda game on screen.

The things I loved about this video: the editing, the gags, the mod itself, the animation and your voice
The things I didn't like about it: that it's over

Any Scott animation is good animation. Always happy to watch anything you create!
More fun/obscure romhacks with your animations would be fun to watch!
I really enjoyed this format! It's nice to see you cover stuff you enjoy. I think the balance of covering the actual content of the game versus making jokes etc is really good, which people tend to underestimate the importance of. It would be nice to see more of your animation, since they're always top tier! I don't really have any points of critique personally, it's just an enjoyable vid!
This game is amazing, everyone remember to download it fast before Nintendo gives the devs a cease and desist.
People just need to stop talking about it until the full thing releases. Once that happens it'll be on the internet forever.
Honestly, I love this kind of content!
- You've used your influence to showcase a really cool project
- You still keep the kind of humor I love to see
- Pacing is spot on
- You kept some content out for the sake of the viewers experience with the game
- The small animation moments were a great touch

Learning about random rom hacks in this manner is really fun because I’m not in that community directly so I only hear about them when someone likes one enough to take time to tell people about them. Personally I'm just glad to see you cover something you are interested in. My favorite content of yours are the videos going over games ive never played like this one, or when you streamed mega man. Especially the old splatoon 2 content with CC in it.

27:50 WHAT DID FEDEX DOOO????
What FedEx does best
This was a pretty neat video
This was a great video. I love the pacing and the small animations add so much. It's a perfect blend of informative, brief and funny.
Somehow Im seeing you even more all over now than after the A press incident.
"i like a darker Zelda game without it going too far over the edge"
*meanwhile, well past the edge by this point for what feels like a creepypasta moment*
