Yeah it wasn't quite as noticeable in person and the sirens were louder. The ambiance was great since I could hear many of the Alertronics form a somewhat central location so it was like surround sound in a way.
How long will you be up there? Friendsville to the south of that area has an analog WPS-4008. If I'm not mistaken they test next Thursday at 7:00PM. I originally planned on recording it and one of the 6000Rs and T-135 AC/DCs in Oak Ridge back in June as a vacation, but that got sidelined by life.
I just went up for the day to record the test, in fact I actually went down to Decatur as well and recorded the vortex at Glenwood elementary school. I was actually in Oak Ridge last June attempting to record the 6000Rs and a T-135 AC/DC, but there was a safety drill that cancelled the test so I didn't get anything. I am however planning on going back next summer in hopes of recording an Alertronic directly and a T-135. Thanks for the Friendsville information, I was actually thinking of going up for a few days and getting some nearby noon blasts and tests that are not on Wednesday so Friendsville will definitely be on that list!
Judging by that ambience, I'd say they it's the four within the two valleys around Sugar Grove Valley Road, Edwards Road, Dyllis Road and Poplar Creek Road. And maybe the two on the North Boundaries.
Yeah I had a video of them sounding back in 2015 and I was near the intersection of Edwards Lane and Sugar Grove Valley Road. I swear there was a point when they were all facing at me because they got super loud for like 10 seconds.
They basically are just a set of loudspeakers hooked up to an electronic panel which generates the siren sound. With the rotating ones they just also add the hardware to make it rotate. I hope this helps!
They work basically the same way, only difference is that they don’t rotate fully since they use a wire to connect to the speakers. Instead they oscillate
This is one of the sirens at the former K-25 plant which is now the ETTP. The site uses a system of Alertronics to warn the residents while the site is being cleaned up and as heard the 6000Rs still test. The single AL-7200 that is accessible (seen in the video) does not activate however it still stands. A few other 7200s still stand, but they are not accessible and are inactive.
Yeah I’ve seen that video and it’s pretty neat! Although it’s of the sirens in the town of Oak Ridge, which was replaced with the Tempest system unfortunately. I really wish this still worked cause they seem like really neat sirens. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! I am happy to have recorded an ambiance of the 6000Rs, but I do wish that this siren was still active considering it is the last (accessible) siren of this type that I know of. Either way, it was really cool to see this siren and see the various other things in Oak Ridge.
So basically it’s a whole bunch of Whelen WS-2012s, but clumped together in an array and made by ASC? Too bad this failed, probably one of the only ones around
Not really, the siren has an octagonal center with horns mounted to it and the drivers inside the center. The array was designed by ACA and this was the lower wattage 7200 as opposed to the 12000 (of which none are known to exist). I know that Oak Ridge had a system of 7200s, however I am unaware of any other systems. This is however one of only two or so known to be standing. I hope this could help!
West Shore distributes Federal Signal and so far Oak Ridge has stuck with ACA/ASC for their system, so I doubt that they would work on any of the Oak Ridge stuff. This siren is also at the ETTP, which is being decontaminated and then will pose no threat, meaning sirens will no longer be needed there. Because of this I doubt that the sirens will be replaced and that WSS will get the sirens if they are taken down, since the sirens previously taken down did not show up there.
Indeed it is! It sure is a shame that this unit along with the others in Oak Ridge are no longer active, I would have loved to hear this during a test when it was still active.
I did see the video of the siren going off from The Siren Archive, although it has been re uploaded here on UA-cam a few times. It is a shame that the recording isn't longer, but I sure am glad that we have something!
What a nice beat also I hear other siren in the ambience and in the water and the ocean in the core and the homes and everything and the space raft which this is MORE LIKE MORE "This is a lot of siren in the fire truck police car attack 9 and worl war 2" with our security qna please I have a car 🚙 that ran into this thingy idk what it is but it got speakers and what
That thick ass Tennessee accent tho. YEEEE HAWWWWW 😂😂
In regards to that PA system dude's voice drawl: "Yee haw!"
Yeah when I heard that I sure knew that I was in Tennessee! It would have been interesting to hear that voice all over the warning area.

Sucks there was so much road noise, however what a lovely stock video you have now! The ambiance was cool

YAAAS! Nice ambience.
It was even better in person, hopefully we can record the 6000R's directly some day, all we have is distance recordings for now...
In google earth you can see the alertronic 1600re covered in trees
Yeah there are plenty of those around the facility and a few around Y-12 that were not removed. Only the Alertronics at K-25 are active however.
Most of the ETTP Alertronics, that is. I came across a few on my last trip that were entirely disconnected, including this one.

That’s what I was thinking after I looked at the map later. I have to say, the sirens were pretty potent even at that distance.
Yeah I had a video of them sounding back in 2015 and I was near the intersection of Edwards Lane and Sugar Grove Valley Road. I swear there was a point when they were all facing at me because they got super loud for like 10 seconds.
how do Alertronic 1600/6000R's work exactly?
Loudspeakers
They basically are just a set of loudspeakers hooked up to an electronic panel which generates the siren sound. With the rotating ones they just also add the hardware to make it rotate. I hope this helps!
What about the whelen siren
They work basically the same way, only difference is that they don’t rotate fully since they use a wire to connect to the speakers. Instead they oscillate

Why are they all inactive, Do you know?
The 7200s that are inactive have been replaced by other sirens or are on plant grounds where they are no longer needed. Hope this could help!
@@flyingtrainproductions4304 hey is it gone now?

Omg so rare. Nice! Shame this one failed you but at least you know what to get next time.

Excellent Ambiance
Thanks! I just wish there wasn't so much road noise, but this was the only location for recording the 7200.
Flying Train Productions Ive had to deal with much worse road noise with rain at the same time.
Wow, I have never had to deal with rain! Nobody here tests if it is raining so I always just call off the recording if the skies are gray and rainy.

Nice! The 6000Rs in Oak Ridge are pretty rare these days, you might want to add those too. I would love to see the map when you are done!

ITS REMOVED!! Already!!!
why is it always the aca alertronic 7200 and 12000?
Because there's really no advertisements or specification sheets for it so we don't have a definite model
Does the voice come from the siren?
Yes.
