  • Basic Information:
    Siren: ACA Alertronic AL-6000R (Installed Feb. 1990)
    Town: Vandergrift, PA (Westmoreland County)
    System: Vandergrift Siren System
    Location: Vandergrift Fire Station No. 1
    Tested: Never
    Uses: Fire Siren
    Cycle: All in this video (Hi-Lo for fire calls)
    Other notes:
    Where do I really begin... First and foremost, huge thanks to the folks out at the Vandergrift Fire Station No. 1 for giving us this incredible experience. We truly appreciate you! This is the type of video someone would post as an April Fools joke, but this is anything but that. We were able to get in contact with the fire department and arrange a time to set off this VERY VERY RARE siren. To top it off, it's a dual toned one too. I about had a heart attack because my powershot and it's wonderful battery died a few seconds after the Hi-Lo cycle. Thankfully I noticed it and rushed to put a new battery in. After talking with the chief, he gave us the thumbs up to sound it in all the signals they had to offer which was a treat to say the least. This is the first video of an Alertronic AL-6000R (Dual Toned at that) in the wild running all signals. This is one of the only two in the state. The other is at a paper mill in Washington, PA. This was truly an awesome and monumental moment for the community if you ask me. This siren was actually struck by lighting twice, hence why there's two large antennas mounted next to it now. I was a little disappointed about the less than desirable weather, however we found shelter at the church next to the fire department so that was that. Overall, I'm pretty happy how the video turned out for such an incredible siren. This was definitely a surreal experience. I also left an audio recorder about a 1/4 mile down the road to catch some echoes. It's definitely a very direction siren as when it points away, it's almost inaudible. I'm sure though you could hear this for miles as it echoes down the nearby river and valley. Enjoy!

    Hello from Canada I really like this siren the hi lo tone at the beginning is music to my ears we dont have thes anywhere in Canada now theres 1 city in Ontario called Sarnia that had these in the 2000s used for hazmat nuclear and severe weather such as Tornados they got replaced by these crappy ones that suck i wqith they were still there

    • @MichanaAlerting
      @MichanaAlerting Місяць тому

      They're a little different. Mostly ACA and ASC use a 6/7 tone ratio in their alertronics while the 1003 is 5/6. This changes the undertones and the roar if it's on an analog controller. Also this siren is always dual-tone in every signal but the 1003 can only produce two tones so it's hi lo is "single tone"

    • @huejazz6939
      @huejazz6939 Рік тому +2

      They do wind up, it’s just not audible. They were designed to activate the tone generator before engaging the amplifiers. Sarnia Ontario Canada had these in the late 1980s early 90s and they were programmed to engage the amplifiers first, thus had an audible wind up.

    • @MichanaAlerting
      @MichanaAlerting Місяць тому

      ACS and ASC's digital controllers do have a windup but it's at a very low amplitude to give nearby people a notice before it blasts at full volume. This one does it, but it's just hard to hear. Some controllers are programmed incorrectly or purposefully so they don't wind up, but more often than not they will.

      This one had a logic board replacement at some point. The 6000R was discontinued and replaced with the AR-1600 before they switched to digital. The first AR-1600s were analog, and the earlier digital boards peaked at the same pitch in alert as they did fire and attack.
