I think the velcro adjusters on top maybe for when it’s worn with a helmet because they are lower profile than the buckles and won’t dig in if a helmet pushes down on them
The M50 is definitely smaller and more compact than the GSR.....those dual filters make the GSR way too big. The M50 has dual filters but actually is smaller, most likely lighter and higher quality saying that it is not cheap like the GSR.
Bit of an unfair comparison special forces etc have a lighter weight respirator for running around and shooting in. The GSR is better for constant chemical attacks. It's more orientated for endurance which an infantry soldier in the field might be more likely to have.
I've just been made aware of the C50 which looks like an M50 with more normal 40mm canister mounts, comes across as having the best of the one piece visor design and harness set up of the FM12
How did you manage to get the m50? Been looking for a gsr/m50 mask because of the panoramic view. They're a lot of money, can you recommend another choice? Currently have an s10 and hoping to get am fm12/ct12 as well to add to the collection. Thanks again liam
Probably the best of both worlds would be the FM-53 made by Avon. It’s basically a M50 that can take 40 mm Stanag filters. The filters Avon makes sit very close to the cheek, similar to the bayonet filters the M50 comes with.
Just a question, I have recently bought a PRV-U kit (which contains an SHMS-R) but the filter it comes with is a big no no for practical use. I have also seen your review on the standardized Chinese gas mask hose, and because I want a function filter for my mask, would one of those aluminum silver coloured ABEK filters work on the hose that’s connected to a GOST mask? Thanks and happy armistice day!
@@costatron2810 It's not avoiding the question at all, it should work fine, however as said often you'll get anomalies where certain filters won't fit on certain ports. My Polish ABE-P3 filter works on the Chinese hose if that's what your asking.
I had the same issue with my surplus m50. Turns out when m50s are left in storage a long time with the filters in place it causes the valve to warp and and remain in the open position. After replacing them with some new US issue auto sealing disk (white instead of clear) the problem seems to have been solved.
I know that this is an older video but the m50 had seals that were defective they have since replaced them with better white colored seals (old ones were clear)
maybe an idea for a future video. Is there any way to modify the valves on a dual filter ct12 / fm12 gas mask to make them automatically seal when the filter is removed? Would be interesting to see

@@porucznikfachowca Shame they've gone up so much, at one point they were under £10 each, but I think the FP-5 for sale now are in date which is probably why they cost more.
Yes and no, it really depends on what filters you want to use. The most direct comparison would be the C50 and FM12 as they both are 40mm NATO. The C50 gives a better field of view and has a more compact strap system. The FM12 has a bulkier strap system which is better IMO but less compatible with certain helmets. If you could get a C50 for a similar price to the FM12 then it is a lot better, however it is generally far easier to get good condition FM12s in the size you want for better prices.
images04.military.com/sites/default/files/media/equipment/personal-equipment/joint-service-lightweight-integrated-suit-technology-jslist/2014/02/jslist-001.jpg Works fine obviously.
Tbh I don't like either, they both look like either a painters mask or a paintball mask. Too complicated and unreliable and 2 filters are overkill and difficult to shoot with. S10 for life.
I just checked the prices of the m50, and my heart sunk
It's only 100$ more than the GSR in 2022. Just got my m50 with updated seals mk2 + filters for 450USD.
It's nice that you respond to comments
Only sensible ones.
Hi,
Do you happen to know where to pick up spare parts for FM12’s? I am looking for a PSM cover. Any help would be appreciated 👍
Great video, I completely agree, really happy that the MoD is replacing the gsr.
Yeah it's pretty bad.

GSR is cheap to make not really cheap to purchase, it was basically the MOD getting scammed.
Great in-depth comparison video, hopefullly the British army do go back to Avon and use the M50.
Cheers, although I think in reality the FM12 would actually be the better choice.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 Yea good shout.
the chin/ neck piece is to secure a hood which gives better protection and in with some mask/hood combos allows the mask to be worn with facial hair.
I wonder if it was raining when you did this review. I hear water running in the background. Excellent comparative review.

M50 can do both, and even comes with an electric air-pump option that removes the minor gas mask fatigue that is so ionic to protective masks.
Love to see a review of the Avon C50 Scott and FRR, or comparison of M53 and GSRES
I've just been made aware of the C50 which looks like an M50 with more normal 40mm canister mounts, comes across as having the best of the one piece visor design and harness set up of the FM12
Question where did you get the m50? like whst website
I've heard that MOD is keeping the GSR and Paying Avon to fix them don't know how true this is?
i am in the british army, i have never ever had an issue with the respirator.
You should do a 3m Scott FRR mask review
He did the GSR which is essentially the same as the FRR aside from a few small changes, no?

eBay where else
Polish MP-5 has a panoramic lens and is cheap.
Weaponsandstuff93 of course! Thanks again mate
do you think if you took the bayonet system off of the GSR you could use a 40mm filter?

The C50 is the M50 in 40mm, the FM-53 is a mask designed to take both 40mm filters and work with air tanks.

In theory all those bits should work fine together but I've found now and again certain filters just refuse to screw into the Chinese hoses.
Weaponsandstuff93 Erm... That’s kinda avoiding my question, but I’ll assume it will work as the filter I’ll be getting is pretty modern.

Can either of them be used for Anti-Virus purposes?
A question, can you wear glasses in them
Nope
EPIC FAIL ANIMATION You can’t wear normal glasses but there are special glasses holders for the Avon and others.
You fit a corrective lens inside the GSR. It fits on the three connections at the top.
Can you please tell me about the sizes of the gp-5 gas mask or send me a link if you already have a video talking about the subject
