I recently watched the russian movie “sobibor” and there was a scene with an ss officer equipped with a vm37 and regular troops with gm38’s. Needles to say they were using the original filters

Got an important question, do the cheek filters on the eo-19 contain asbestos? I cant find any sort of confirmation.
Because there's never been a published lab test on them, I personally wouldn't use them because every other tested Soviet filter contains asbestos.

the eagle stamps are under the face seal just look around the inside of the face seal you should find one, they usually stay pretty well preserved.
Just bent back the peripheral seal and the rubber started ripping apart, don't think I'll bother looking any further.

I'm so happy that I got a VM40 at a flea market in my hometown last weekend. It's in excellent conition and was only 10 Euros.

I dont realy have that problem with my m65z but im dutch, wich means im of germanic heratige so maybe that is the reason.
If you take a hot air gun and Castrol oil you can actually get the M54 Gas mask looking decent once more.
The heat helps reshape the mask and the Castrol oil helps soak into the rubber and rejuvenate it to keep it from cracking and again further.

Z is better quality put simply.
Having a whole bunch of M65 and M65Z masks, they are honestley one of my favourite and most well functioning series of masks, ive had no seal issues with them so it does confuse me a little, neither my old or new ones cause seal problems, the only issues i could thing of is either you having a size 1 face or as your previous hypothesis went, that they are designed for more defined jawlines.
If I see an M65Z I might pick one up at some point, but as I've said in lots of videos, respirators are generally made by each nation for it's respecting phenotype.
So British masks are for Anglo or Celtic faces, German masks are Germanic, Scandinavian masks for Scandinavian features, Russian masks for Slavic features etc.
The Israeli M15 is the same shape as the M65 but fits me fine because they put a better peripheral seal on it, peripheral seals are probably the most underrated feature on masks because it means you can cheat perfect sizing and head dimensions.
My m65 seems to fit well thankfully but I would don my FM12 way before the m65
The FM12 would offer a much higher protection factor, which is something I ought to really do a video on.

I have a dumb question does the WWII gm gas mask have asbestos in them even without a filter on them?
The VM37 and VM40 have some sort of stuff on the inside around a joint that looks a lot like asbestos.

i have two volksmask 40. one in the original package, the other one a childversion that has been used in the annihilation of dresden. both look a bit creepy and both costed me about 20€
im always surprised with people having trouble with the m65. mine fits perfect. its defenitly a realy worn down one but its completely air tight. its general shape fits smooth and doesnt sqeeze your nose to death. im happy with it
As explained over and over, gas masks are made to fit certain ethnic features of the wearers face, if you wear a mask that is not from your ethnic background it won't fit well.

Yes it was the later model designed to be cheaper to make I think, it has the green plastic exhale valve cover.
I have got the m65 produced by Auer, also a german facturer, same top notch quality after over 40years (prod. 1976). Only difference is the string around youre neck is made of some sort of cotton, but iam having the some trouble of making an airtide seal. Sry for my wack englisch, im a German🤷🏼♂️

It has problems making an air tight seal because the M65 does not have a peripheral seal (A small rubber flap that is just inside the face piece) You will have to do the straps up uncomfortably tight or get a smaller size.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 Can you maybe send a link of a picture showing that "peripheral seal" and/or name masks which got that sort of seal thingy, i can't find anything saying peripheral seal or describing it in detail. I would really appreciat it : )
PS: i now have an polish type mc-1 +ms-4 gas-mask filter, in a almost perfect condition, with the carrying bag, the anti mist insert and manual, if you want i can send you some pics ^^

Compared to the german tigers,the british tanks where pretty much a moped with an airgun attached. Say what you want about the germans but they where the british far supperior when it came down to warfare technology

I think a better WW2 masks than GM38 are Soviet ShM1 and ShM41.
The reason you don't get a good seal on the M65 is that you don't have the standart military-issued face. Nassing vrong wis tscherman desain!

Hey recently ive been seeing gasmask posting on ebay saying [ prop ] on them the best example is M61 listings and i was wondering if you could do a video explaining about this because from all photos and everything ive seen they are M61s...but i just dont get why they say Prop.

I was wondering, how can you determine the size of a German mask? I’ve been looking into getting an M65, but I’m not sure if it will fit.
I also have a Dräger m65 but mine fits quite comfotable and is air seal. But maybe its because i am German.LOL
