It's no bad. It's cheap, cheap and bad are different, to an army, if you say here's the best mask, but you won't be able to buy guns, we'll the answers no, this mask was from 2011 when money was tight, a gas mask that has issues, but works, is fine. You can get a sight picture with this mask, I've done it. But The cost of a GSR + some risers, if significantly less could ahve allowed the army to increase it's capacity in toher areas, such as the L85 upgrade program.
Love your videos weaponsandstuff93 me and my older brother (fan of yours) we bought 2 gas mask I got a gp5 and he got Swiss sm-67. If you can answer this question please tell me how do you not make the lens fog up?? I hope you read this comment bye bye!!!
Algar Gaming A standard anti-fog solution should work if used correctly, as well as altering your breathing, try to exhale downwards to the valve, rather than upwards onto the lenses.
GP-5 has the tissot tubes, so it shouldn't really fog up. If it does fog up a bit, use the anti fog spray. Just use the same spray or paste with the SM-67.
Has anyone noticed that a uv light not only lights the view port like a target and simultaneously make viewing out very difficult as it goes opaque!!!!! This doesn't happen with the S10 🤔
Huh...I thought that GSR respirator was comfortable to aim down the sights (compared to other cheek filter masks), because of the way those filters are arranged. But after you tried to aim it with your FAL, then I thought it may be that the mask is ONLY optimized for aiming with the L85 rifle.
This mask sounds a bit like the L85/SA80: A bad rifle which was adopted to boost the value of the then government owned Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield Lock for private sale, not because it was actually a good or best rifle available at the time. Three upgrades and finally a German company (Heckler & Koch GmbH) managed to mostly fix it with the A3 configuration. ...and just like the Scott GSR: it looks kind-of "futuristic" and cool, but sadly, it only looks that way.
Another great video. The GSR is made at the Scott factory in Skelmersdale is it not? Tut! Doesn't say a lot for quality control if the build quality is like that.
Before I watched your first video criticising the GSR a few months back, I wanted to buy one. Thanks for saving me £60-80 on something that has proven to be lacklustre. I just bought an FM-12 from ebay with manufactures original Avon case and instruction booklet for £72. I'm happy to spend extra for something that the seller described as "looks to be unissued and complete with case, instruction booklet and sealed filter" Pictures show the filter was produced and sealed in 2008, so maybe the gas mask itself is not much older than 2008, but there is no picture of the date stamp on the mask. Looking forwards to this one! I'm sure my sister wont mind storing it at her house for me.. Maybe.
Yeah the FM-12 is a brilliant mask, one of the best generation 4 masks as far as I'm aware they're called, Gen 4 was basically when the masks didn't try and reinvent the wheel but were made very well. Most of my favourite masks would be of that generation.
Every gas mask has a pro and contra but until it's doing its job its OK but and it may have those weaknesses but I you have to agree that it is looking awesome
i totally understand your gripes with the mask, but a lot of the problems seem to be about quality control which isnt necessarily a design flaw (however it is filled with some majour design flaws and yes i recognize how those design flaws can contribute to build quality issues)
Nope as I'd have to remove the filters to clean it and I'm not going to try and change cheek filters. Take your filters out of it, and wash it in a sink.
Jacob Dagger t I have heard that the Canadian c4 is still not as reliable as other masks despite Canada's best efforts I do believe there are two variants one being great the other being horrible
Sorry for asking but you seem like a trust worthy guy that knows what he's talking about. So I recently bought an GP-5, it looks pretty worn. The filter it self has been opened, I cleaned out the whole mask by carefully letting water slide trough the inside of the mask to the outside trough the filter connection thing. The filter of course wasn't attached during this. Is it safe to use the mask with out the filter now?, I just really don't want to die of cancer in 30 years because I worn a mask, that would be too ironic
Gyan Ko thanks =D, I was a little worried for at the moment, cause I haven't got any experience or knowledge about gas mask ect. I mean, how dumb would it be that I died because of small particles while wearing a mask that was designed to protect against small particles. Xd
Older viewers may remember the Gov't sponsored Remploy employment factories and workshops. I can't help thinking the de funding and closure of this scheme has some connection to shoddy crap such a s this being produced.
Interesting just read up on it, but in general it's bad when your outsource jobs from your local population to foreign companies due to short term economic benefits which hurt in the wrong one.
How the hell are the MOD getting away with this. It's totally unfit for purpose. Just goes to show what they think of the Armed Forces... Just because they (MOD/Gov't) want to save a few quid, more like they would rather spend what they save on themselfes. I was looking to get an S10 but when I saw the GSR, I was thinking of getting it, but now, after watching this video, sod that, I'm gonna stick with the S10.
Probably too late to matter, but no mask protects against the coronavirus. It is an extremely small diameter. You need a SCBA to truly have protection against biological threats. SCBAs only last for like half an hour of air at max.
Sorry to be that guy but there is a mistake in your descriotion. It should be "its" not "it's". But great video, I liked the little sequence at the end!
The avon m50 is really good I saw a gsr on ebay for $70 but I did not buy it because firefighters have told me that scott S.C.B.A gear is terrible and msa is best 10000000% better
I'm saying it's bad because lots of the masks delivered to the UK armed forces had holes in them and the visors came out, if a mask falls apart it's an awful mask.
I also can't believe you said they are selling the QC rejects. If there ever was a real need for the public to wear one (like now with the CV) and it failled, I'm sure there would be a legal case against them for murder...
Honestly I've got difficulty aiming properly with my M50. Just means moving my rifle and head to uncomfortable angles, though. That piece of shit... well I'm not seeing any way I could possibly make do. I feel for any of your poor bastards over the pond having to rely on that thing. The fucking filters look to be damn near twice as thick as ours.
Yeah I'm not in the army but imagine actually having to rely on this mask to protect you, on most military forums everyone was bitching that they just wanted the S10 back, even if it's "unsophisticated" by modern standards.
The S6 was damn comfy but the elastic straps were too vulnerable to agents melting them if caught with hood down. S10 I liked for the straw and could shoot straight with it thanks to well designed eye pieces. I think the GSR having that canister in the way was offset by our laser modules so you can fire in the shoulder but not trying to aim through your mounted sight. Assuming your unit has LMM or equivalent.
Damnit I was actually really attracted to that mask
Anyways thanks for bringing it up and making me aware of this
Yeah it's a bad mask, if you want a mask in that style get an M50.

@@Weaponsandstuff93 what about the frr ?
It’s bad but it looks cool.
Honestly the Avon M50 still looks cooler for basically being the same concept. This just looks really big, unwieldy, and kinda cheap.
Because it is all those things, "Well the M50 may have won the mask trial, but what if we made you the M50 for cheap, really, really cheap."
S10 looks better
@@sudonim7552 They both look awesome
most of us are only collectors so we usually go with the looks
Scott released a revamped model they call Scott FRR and it uses 40mm filters. I wonder how well the redesign is to the GSR.
It got discontinued so I don't think it was that good!
It looks cool but it must be bulky / hevy as hell to ware, It looks hard to aim down sights with this.
You only need to run one filter, so if you remove the one from the side you shoulder your rifle on, you will have less issues with shooting.
True but supposedly at the time the British army demanded two filters be used at one time.
How Do you adjust the straps???
Love your videos weaponsandstuff93 me and my older brother (fan of yours) we bought 2 gas mask I got a gp5 and he got Swiss sm-67. If you can answer this question please tell me how do you not make the lens fog up?? I hope you read this comment bye bye!!!
Algar Gaming A standard anti-fog solution should work if used correctly, as well as altering your breathing, try to exhale downwards to the valve, rather than upwards onto the lenses.
You can buy anti-fogging paste/spray for windscreens/scuba gear that would work better than homemade stuff.
GP-5 has the tissot tubes, so it shouldn't really fog up. If it does fog up a bit, use the anti fog spray. Just use the same spray or paste with the SM-67.
Does anyone know how to clean it? As there is a HEPA filter inside the mask
Pull the nose cone away from the facepiece, the filter is attached to the nose cone, and can also be pulled away from the nose cone.
When did you get into collecting mask and why?
Pretty sure I answered that in my first Q&A video.
Weaponsandstuff93 oh didn't know about that I'll check it out
The s10 gas mask is my favorite mask
Cool
i know you hate the m10
but how do i know if my filters are safe?
Nobody knows as they've never been tested.
Weaponsandstuff93 thanks!

I can’t find any of these for sale does anyone know where I can buy one?
On ebay
And your an NBC expert? used these for real? trained in them?
Gareth Sebburn my exact thought 🤔
Me: That looks pretty good mask.
Weaponsandstuffs: Scott GSR is bad.
Me: It’s bad.
It's a shame because with a few different design choices and quality control it could have been really good.
Justin Can’t think for yourself?
@weaponsandstuff93 probably should have started with the saying: 'they don't make them like they used to'
Huh...I thought that GSR respirator was comfortable to aim down the sights (compared to other cheek filter masks), because of the way those filters are arranged. But after you tried to aim it with your FAL, then I thought it may be that the mask is ONLY optimized for aiming with the L85 rifle.
Considering it failed the army tests for aiming weapons, it's pretty much junk.
Huh...So I guess having a dual filter gas mask that is able to retain both filters for aiming terribly is a preetty bad novelty feature :/
Apparently the Avon M50 manages well enough, but those filters are very flat compared to the GSR.
Having both the gsr and m50 I can easily say that the gsr is a pile of wank and should never have been issued
Yeah it failed the trials but because the government was cheap they opted for it over the good mask.
This mask sounds a bit like the L85/SA80: A bad rifle which was adopted to boost the value of the then government owned Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield Lock for private sale, not because it was actually a good or best rifle available at the time. That's not a factory, they get the parts in and slap them together so it can be "Made in the UK"

Is the s10 40mm
Yes
My favorite mask to wear is the pmg2, wbu
CT12 or Forsheda A4.
FM12/S10 is always gonna be one of my favourites
The FM12 and S10 do what the scott can better in my opinion the scott seems way to bulky
Yeah it's big and weighs a lot.
Pretty sure someone in the MoD had connections with Scott and is getting a kickback for giving them the contract
He who pays the piper calls the tune
Sounds a lot like a certain weapons trial in the 50s here in the states
Very true
Sadly yes.
Weaponsandstuff93 not gonna lie the army did a shit job on choosing the new respirator
Every gas mask has a pro and contra but until it's doing its job its OK but and it may have those weaknesses but I you have to agree that it is looking awesome
It doesn't look awesome, it's a crappy version of the M50, look up the M50 respirator if you want to see the "awesome" version.
Weaponsandstuff93 welp I take back everything you are right that's way more awesome thanks
As far as I'm aware yes but I've not handled one, the M50 has replacement visors as well so you can have tinted ones etc.
The GSR looks like a tie fighter pilots helmet especially with a tinted film fitted looks far better than the m50 even if not as good or practical
i totally understand your gripes with the mask, but a lot of the problems seem to be about quality control which isnt necessarily a design flaw (however it is filled with some majour design flaws and yes i recognize how those design flaws can contribute to build quality issues)
Yeah I completely agree, I don't *hate* it but I prefer the s10/ct12
Well if you were unlucky enough to have one that fell apart in actual use you would hate it as you die of chemical poisoning.
Same thing with me, When i find a nice piece that i fall in love with and it gets replaced...... TRIGGERED
Well it's a two factor thing, replace a genuinely good mask with one that doesn't even work properly.
Yes
It doesn't look like its flexible enough to have a tight seal on your face. Otherwise it's my favorite mask.
Bear in mind there's an inner mask for a tight face seal
Aren't there hidden 40mm threads on these masks?
Yes you have to break the bayonet filter connector off.
I think just The Marine Corps uses the Avon M50 The Army if my sources are correct uses the M45 could be wrong
I'm pretty sure the US is ordering enough M50s now to have 3X the numbers needed for the entirety of US service personal.
Weaponsandstuff93 That's a damn shame Man. The M45 is a great mask. I own both I'll take the M45 over the M50 any day.
Will do a full review on the Israeli civilian mask
I already did one.
Can you make a video on how to clean the M17 series of gas mask?
Nope as I'd have to remove the filters to clean it and I'm not going to try and change cheek filters. Take your filters out of it, and wash it in a sink.
like the shape, I hope you be better and heal , just tell me its not the espastose who make you feeling bad !!!!!
Same if ain't an s10 then it ain't the best
FM12 is better than the S10.

Yes as long as you don't put the filter back on the mask it will be totally safe to wear.
It seams like you would be safer using S10's and FM12s past their expiry date than risk using the GSR's with all these problems tbh
Yeah they technically would be safer doing that, but the bureaucrats don't like common sense.
No 1 Its HUGE!
Yeah weighs a lot as well.

It looks goofy with 40mm filters on.
How the hell can you shoulder your rifle with that monster? Extremely bad design.
I'd say better call it impractical for military especiallyl than bad.
