Bushcamp - Installing A Cell Phone Signal Booster in My Offgrid Cabin (Weboost Drive Sleek)

  • In this video we install a cell phone signal booster in my offgrid cabin. This particular cell phone booster is called the weboost drive sleek and we put it to the the test to see if it is able to produce reliable cell service in my cabin.
    Join my dog and I at our wilderness homestead in the Canadian North. This channel features videos on off-the-grid lifestyle and building, trapline adventures, hunting, fishing, trucks and much more!
    I live off the land in a self reliant and self sufficient lifestyle. The land provides me with everything I need. My offgrid cabin is solar powered, heated by a wood stove and most everything I eat comes from the land; fish, eggs from my chickens, and many different wild game species. The lifestyle I live is essentially expense free and blesses me with the opportunity to do whatever I please.
    In the winter months we head out on the trapline and ethically harvest fur bearing animals. Through moderate and sustainable methods I snare and trap these animals and work on, and sell the pelts at auction which provides a decent income for me to invest in my off the grid homestead and lifestyle.

    Friends trust me, do not buy this thing or anything weboost for that matter. Absolute headache and some of the worst money I have ever spent. It has been broken more than it has been working. I have gotten multiple replacement parts on warranty and still it is not working. customer service is very difficult and they will not refund me and are very hesitant to send me anything else to fix it! absolute nightmare product and company!

    Understand about bringing more electronics into the bush. People think living off grid means you're living without convienences, but off grid doesn't mean you don't have power and can't be comfortable. We're off grid with solar, an lp generator for backup, tv, internet, cell phone booster, computers, hot water gas boiler and lights in every room of our cabin. Completely understand about being conflicted having more electronic items in the bush. It's just an awesome feeling to be surrounded by nature. Hats off to you for living life the way you want. Sometimes less is more.

    First thing return that vehicle booster kit and get the one made for home. The home kit has a much better antenna and better amplifier. Second you must find your closest cell tower and install the antenna outside your cabin and aim it at the cell tower. You can download an app to your phone which shows where your tower is. The higher you get the antenna the better. Good luck.

    I have used the WeBoost for several years at my cabin. I can tell you... you gotta get that antenna outside your metal roof... you won’t get for shit signal through your roof or even your walls. I went from one bar inside to 4 bars after I put the antenna on the roof! Also internet speed is dependent on the servers your are hooked to... not enough server capacity and your internet speed drops.

      The outdoor antenna needs to go outside as high as he can put it, and be as far away from the indoor antenna as possible. That building is so small he might need to put the outdoor antenna on a tower out in the yard. That antenna is too small though he needs a bigger one. His battery in his phone would last longer too if he turns airplane mode on when he doesn't have signal. When a cellular modem has no signal it uses maximum power all the time seeking one even if there isn't one to be found. THE WIRES ARE LONG FOR THESE REASONS.

    • @ncphenom2309
      @ncphenom2309 3 роки тому

      @@hithere7382 just sticking it to the roof would be best. There is no indoor antenna. Just the booster. The roof should be high enough. Inside just won’t work as the antennas aren’t made to work like that on the car ones.

    • @hithere7382
      @hithere7382 3 роки тому

      @@ncphenom2309 That cradle is the indoor antenna. Just because it's small and designed to work over such a short distance doesn't mean it isn't an antenna. Unless he is plugging the thing directly into the phone there is an antenna or several antennae involved.

      @@southernappalachianrecon not strongly enough to resist severe weather. The way to do it is a pole mounted to a pipe or something that is mounted to your roof.
