Funny how 40 years later I learned the story behind the song “Junior’s farm” all thanks to UA-cam Thank you for telling us about when Paul was in Nashville.
The line in Juniors farm... I took my bag to the grocery store the prices higher than the time before... I think we can all relate to that today. Great song! 🎵 Great story!
Juniors Farm, and Sally G are two great songs . Paul is so bloody normal. I’ve met him a few times, and you would never know he’s possibly the most known person in the world …
They stayed at my friend's family farm. Paul paid my friend $300 a week to run errands and get certain herbs for them real good money in 74. lol My friend Greg Putman asked us to stay away and respect Paul's privacy. So I stayed away but Paul and Linda passed my VW van on a country road on a motorcycle without helmets. I wish I had crashed the place and met Paul. One friend was visiting Greg and he said Paul walked out of a shower drying himself and my friend was speechless stunned. They said Paul said it's okay mate it happens all the time.
I love this channel and I am so glad that it's getting more recognition, Otis is the greatest guy who when he has guest he let's them tell their story ! Thanks Mr Gibbs
Favorite Wings song, hard to pick just one. It would be a 3 way tie between Juniors Farm, Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey and Hi,Hi,Hi. What a great interview and story!
OMG! Bill Demain! So cool to see you. I subscribe to Otis's channel. Love the old stories. I'm still on Ohio. I visited Nashville promoting Rosenow Guitars with a good friend at the Summer NAMM 2018. Got to visit with your brother, visited the studio etc. Loved the Wings story. Impossible for me to have one favorite Wings song. These viewers don't realize what a rockstar you are!
Wow! I loved Bill's story. It adds so many details to that period in time regarding Paul/Linda & Wings. It's funny that..... the only record cover that I asked Paul to sign when I met Paul in 1990, was 'Walking in the Park with Eloise'. For some reason, I knew that record was very important to Paul because he recorded that song for his dad. Others who were there were getting him to sign 'Abbey Road'/Band on on the Run etc. Paul & Linda smiled at me & said 'Mon Per' (sic French) to me. Special amazing moment. GAZ (Melbourne/Australia) Thanks for all your insightful clips OTIS.
Loved the video! I can't think of anyone who's handled mass fame like Paul has. Whenever you see him engaging with fans, his affection seems so genuine and easy.
Lived in the Nashville area all my life. In 74' I was a Junior in H.S. Been a hard-core Beatles fan my whole life. Paul being in town was pretty far out! Still have my 45 of Junior's Farm/Sally G.
I was honored to call Ernie Winfrey a friend and never got tired of the tales when he was in the mood to talk McCartney. Bill added some winderful detail via Buddy Killen that add color to this rich history. Great episode, Otis!
1974 I was living 74 miles south of Nashville in rural Giles county and a junior in high school, and we knew that Wings were somewhere in or around Nashville. I kid you not! Yes the rumors were all over middle TN, because in those days, everybody knew someone, or was related to somebody who lived around the city, and practically everyone who lived in Nashville knew within a couple of hours what was going on there. Because in those days, Nashville was just a great big small town. I surely miss that Nashville. Great story! Brought back some wonderful memories. Thanks you so much for sharing it.
Fantastic stories of Paul back in Nashville in 74. Just amazing how he combined being a family man, a business man, a songwriter, and a rock star simultaneously. I’m lucky I can walk and chew gum at the time….
A guy I know was standing on a sidewalk in Nashville at that time holding some albums when a van stopped at a red light and Linda McCartney started talking to him about one of the albums he was holding. He spoke to her and asked if Paul was in there. Paul leaned forward in the driver's seat in his cowboy hat and gave a wave. They asked if he needed a ride but he was going a different way. The light changed and they went on their way. He later said he ,of course , should have taken them up on their offer and went which ever way they were headed.
I read a similar story years ago. Early 70s Wings are playing the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. A young wife teases her husband "Too bad you have to work tonight. I'm going to see Paul McCartney and Wings" with my girlfriends The poor guy goes to work for Con Ed the NYC electric company in Manhattan. He and a couple of guys are digging a hole in the street with a jack hammer when Paul and Linda drive up in a limousine on their way to the show. They roll down the window and they chat with the the working men for a few minutes. The next morning the husband got the last laugh at the breakfast table.
Another "good one" Otis ~ Wings was a fantastic "Phoenix" like band for McCartney post the end of the Beatles. He and Linda seemed to be soul mates, and the music was and still remains terrific.
i just realised i couldn't be a celebrity, i got claustrophobia just listening to parts of this (great) recollection. Paul and Linda, greatest love story ever.
Oh man thanks Otis and Bill that was one great story. I had kinda forgotten abour Juniors Farm even though I've always loved it. 74 was the year I moved to Chattanooga TN. I remember when it finally came out the McCartney was there. Man I wanted to take a road trip up there. Memories that when reflected upon just makes you smile big and you say yep what a life.
Living in southern Indiana I go to Nashville as often as I can. It's a fun place for anyone who loves music and history. I've seen a lot of good acts there , both country and rock and roll. Last time I went I saw my old friend and truly astounding guitarist Lonnie Mack ( RiP) at his home and we went out and saw the Mavericks play in a club . They were an outstanding band who had some hits in the 90s . There's always someone playing good music on a stage somewhere in Nashville . Incidentally I have also seen a lot of good artists in Nashville , Indiana. Don Williams, Loretta's Lynn , Ricky Skaggs . I don't know if live music still comes to Nashville, IN but back in the day it sure did
@@donyoung7874 he had a nice home down there and a really good circle of friends and acquaintances . He was a Hoosier at heart but he sure loved his life in Tennessee
My favorite would either be "Goodnight Tonight" (fantastic bass line) or "Rockestra Theme" (check out the list of musicians on the recording). Stay safe, Otis!
Thanks for the stories. 10:11 in the summer of 1974 Heather was 11. 12:34 Walking In The Park With Eloise was not the B-side to Junior's Farm (that was Sally G). It was released as a single credited to Country Hams with B-side Bridge Over The River Suite.
Awesome stories thanks! Crazy bummer with the pane of glass my grandmother put butterfly stickers on hers leading to the family room but we still were like birds... An amazing photo I have shared many times is off I-94 in Detroit at the giant wheel, all of WINGS got out and took a group bw photo next to the giant tire Denny Laine w headphones looking towards downtown Detroit... We just watched the concert for George at St. Albert Hall was around 2003 and great all star jams w George's son Dhani, Billy Preston, Denny Laine, Paul, Ringo, Jeff Lynn...

I always thought Sally G was titled after the banjo, fiddle tune Sally Goodin. There is even a hint of the Sally Goodin melody in the mix near the end of the recording.
Look for the killer EP Nashville Diary it’s got Soily, HI HI HI, One Hand Clapping and My Love…and a pic on the front cover is the picture the guy talks about.
Sally G was the B side of my copy of the Juniors Farm single. Yes, the word got out that McCartney was somewhere around Nashville that summer. I was growing up in Murfreesboro, and I heard rumors which included that he was making an album in the Nashville area with Norbert Putnam as engineer and/or producer. I still say that if McCartney had returned to Nashville after Venus and Mars, for inspiration as well as subsequent recording, his post-Beatles career would not have become so much mush.
My brother opened up a 16-track MCI-equipped studio in Tallahassee, FL in January of 1974. He shoulda come there ... Well, listening to the story on that lead guitar player, I'm glad he didn't! Some people think that would actually have been Billy Shears Campbell ...
I have that rehearsal CD from a soundboard. It's from the CD and DVD entitled 'One Hand Clapping'. McCartney was asked in 1989 if he was ever going to release it and all he said was maybe someday.

Sally G was the B-Side to Junior's Farm in the U.S. Walking In The Park with Eloise was a single b/w Bridge Over The River Suite released in late 1974 in the U.S. The single failed to chart.
Hey Otis just a quick line to mention that the musicians hall of fame channel has a interview with the engineer that did the recording for Paul in Nashville. He also mentioned that they had a little issue with the guitarist for Wings lol
I remember when Junior's Farm was getting airplay. But Sally G was on the flipside, and local DJs were playing that more and more. I became obsessed with it and it's still one of my favorite McCartney songs that I listen to frequently.
