    so so so happy that i found this video. thank you so much! I am currently working with an old eos 7d right now, but it looks like i'll be upgrading to mirrorless with the M6 mark II with the viltrox speed booster. some of the other youtube channels that have done video reviews of the M6 mark ii have shown horrible video quality... but after watching your video along with Potato Jet's review, I am convinced that I will be able to make it work. THANK YOU!!!

    Oh my GOD!!!!! I thought you had millions of subscribers! Great job at all and you are the only one I'm following about this camera from now! I really want to be a youtuber and always wanted to get sony a6600 and sigma 16mm for starting. But my budget is only enough for m6 mk ii + sigma 16mm and seems like you made me order! :) This setup you mentioned may be little pricey for me.. can I ask if you can test it with new released sigma 16mm ? And did it get new firmware update which includes 4k 24 fps? Thanks a lot!! :)

    • @islander1747
      @islander1747  4 роки тому +6

      Hi. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. No, I didn't test the Sigma. I have the 35mm f1.4 Art and I love the image quality and bokeh. If you really want to upgrade your gear, do it in stages, making smaller investments each year instead of going for a big one at once. Most of all, try to enjoy and get the most of what you already have, which is something that we often forget. As to the 24fps firmware, I don't think it is out yet.

    Hi, Carlos. Nice job. Liked your video very much. I have a M50 that I love and use it with speed booster for photos and videos. Man, I love that camera. I was planning to buy another M50+Speedbooster kit for multi cam videos, but now I am really considering the M6. I shoot mostly 1080p, but it would be great to have Dual Pixel in 4K, mostly for reframing without quality loss. It would be perfect if the 120fps was better.
    I will wait the R5 and R6 launching to see what will happen to the other models prices. Let see.
    Congratulations for you job.

    Awesome video! Keep it up! BTW, 4k is overhyped, even Tony Northup has given that up as really only 3% of the people watch in 4k. Does it worth the extra storage space and processing time?

    • @islander1747
      @islander1747  4 роки тому

      Hi, thanks. From a viewer's perspective, I feel that if you have 4k displays, particularly if they are big and you're siting relatively close, it makes a noticeable difference from 1080p. If you're far from the display or it is small, it's hard to notice the increased detail. From a creator's viewpoint, as most people either use small screens or lower resolution ones, my opinion is that it's not worth it to go all in on 4k yet.

    Great Job! - I am curious what you are using for your video editing - your titles and transitions etc. are outstanding. I have a question about still photo RAW file sizes of the EOS R using an EF-S lens. I am led to believe that because of the automatic crop you are only using about 63% of the sensor. Is it very noticeable in picture quality? I have a lot of ancient F lenses from my A-1, and EF-S lenses, but no EF so I am curious if it is worth it for me to go to the R or RP. Thanks again for a great job! I am an engineer and your attention to detail is terrific .

    • @islander1747
      @islander1747  4 роки тому

      Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I've only used EF-S lenses on the EOS R to shoot video, and you can see that it can provide good results, but it all dependson the quality of the lens. In this comparison, you can see that in terms of detail, the EF-S 10-18 is much sharper than the EF 17-40 L.

    great video! what ff lenses would you recommend for m6 mark ii (mainly still photography)?

    • @islander1747
      @islander1747  4 роки тому +2

      Well, it depends greatly on the genre of photography and your budget. If you’re going get a speedbooster for a M6 II, you’re probably looking for the extra bokeh that FF will give you, because you could already get good sharp results at medium range apertures with APS-C lenses and a standard adapter. So, for portraits or street photography and keeping value for money in mind, Canon’s 85mm f/1.8 will get you great results. For a wider angle, the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 is also very sharp wide open and the bokeh is delicious. For a more general use with a compromise between bokeh, range and sharpness, a cheap(er) alternative to the holy trinity would be the Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4, the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 G2 and the Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3, but only if you need to shoot telephoto. As always, getting a second hand or grey import lens will make this investment more affordable, albeit with a small risk. If you want me to elaborate a bit more on this subject, feel free to ask.

    I have an Canon M6 m2 with an adapter. I'm a new photographer and videographer.. So this question may sound stupid. But, if u buy I speedboster.. Do u still need an adapter as well? The adapter with the speedboster? Where can u buy this speedbooster?

    • @islander1747
      @islander1747  4 роки тому +2

      Hi. The speedbooster is an adapter, which allows you to mount EF lenses and get a 0.71x focal length reduction. EF-S (APS-C only) lenses will not fit. If you want to use EF-S lenses, you can get a standard adapter, which is much cheaper as it has no glass in it, and you will keep the 1.6x crop factor of the APS-C sensor. I bought my adapters on ebay. Just search for "viltrox ef-eos m adapter" for the standard one, or add "speedbooster" at the end to find that version. Make sure the speedbooster is version II, the latest one, and that it has the metal pins that allow for autofocus and aperture control.

    You would do a lot better using M6 Mark VI with the Sigma EFM lenses or the Canon EFM 32M. I have the speed booster but I would not use it on the Mark VI. 4K on the Mark VI with the above EFM lenses is a far better solution in my opinion. I use the EF 16-35 in 4K on the EOS R.

    • @islander1747

      It's fast enough at 14fps, but there's a small lag between what you’re watching on the screen/viewfinder and what you’re point the camera at, so for very fast motion subjects that are passing by very close, it could be better. In those extreme circumstances, I would use the screen instead of the viewfinder so that I could keep an eye on it and the live action and be able to track the subject better. The buffer takes its time clearing up, so when you don't need the 14fps, the 7fps mode will be better.

Thank you for the 120 FPS comparison, I currently own the 1Dx II and EOS R and wanted to sell my 1Dx II (waiting for the R5 & R6) and get the M6 II + speedbooster in the meantime to shoot slow mo, but if the 120 FPS from the M6 II is bad, I think it will not work as I want...

    • @islander1747
      @islander1747  4 роки тому

      Hi. I'm glad the video was useful. I haven't done extensive testing comparing the two codecs, but you will only notice a difference on fast moving video, where ALL I will fare better. On most scenarios, the bigger file size and higher bitrate on the ALL I make the IPB a better solution, so you shouldn't miss ALL I on the M6 II.

    Nice video! How does the speedbooster affect the autofocus performance? Does it make it appreciably worse? Useable for gymbal work? thanks!

      Thanks. Adapting between different Canon mounts doesn't affect AF performance, so lenses work perfectly. You may run into some balancing issues when using the M6 with very heavy lenses (near 1kg or 2.2 lbs) on a gimbal. It's very light, so you have to get it further back than normal, which might not be possible with smaller gimbals.

    Would u recommend m6 with speed booster and 17-40L or eos R with 10-18mm?

      Hi. Like I said in the video, if you're looking for stabilization, sharpness, and more AF control, the 10-18mm will suit your needs better. If you're looking for bokeh, go for the M6 II and the 17-40mm. Thanks for watching.

      @@islander1747 so you're saying for the vlog style run and gun the 10-18mm is better but for something with a gimbal or tripod work in studio the m6ii is better, maybe I'll just get a m6ii and 17-40L and 11-22mm best of both worlds and would be cheaper than buying a Eos R, right now I'm shooting with a Eos m and I have a viltrox speed booster so I can upgrade my body later just need to grab some lenses, were there any obstacles you saw while using these cameras and do you have a personal preference?

    I think this camera is the one! The only thing I was worried about was AutoFocus. It looks like you're having no issues with AF. I'm assuming Viltrox is fully compatible vs Canon adaptor?

      The Viltrox speed booster is only compatible with EF lenses (not EF-S) and there is a list of lenses that are tested to be compatible. Doing a search on other lenses that other people have found to work can be located if you do some digging. Use the other EF-S adapter (which he lists) in order to adapt EF-S lenses without speed boosting.

      @@operationevangelism Ah good tip, I'm using a speedbooster at the moment on GH4 so I might check that list to see if that's why I'm having auto-focus issues.

    The Metabones Speedbooster for M6 MKII is much better option and I would choose it over the Viltrox anytime even considered the significant higher price and a shipment from China (which in my case was extremely fast).

    Hello thank you for this content, I have an EOS 60D a very old camera I guess 😂, and I want to upgrade to EOS 90D or the M6 II and I found those two are very similar, what's your opinion about the 90D ?
