  • Exploring abandoned places is my hobby and finance it all out of my own pocket and the donations I get from the people who love watching the documentaries we make... A small donation would be greatly appreciated! ► / brosofdecay
In the picturesque rolling mountains along the French countryside, we found an abandoned hotel that has been left behind for almost three decades. Everything inside remains frozen in time, just like the last day customers came strolling through its doors and enjoyed the everlasting beauty and comfort it had to offer. When we came inside we were stunned by what was left behind, it seemed almost too unrealistic, this was by far the best-abandoned hotel we had even discovered. If the walls of this place could speak they would tell stories of adventurous mountaineers and wealthy city dwellers who came here for engulfment in comfort and luxury. The hotel opened in the year 1956, it was a dream come true for a wealthy French businessman, he had planned this project for years and this was his life's work. Over the next 4 decades, he ran this place like a charm and it was a well-regarded hotel and an iconic landmark and destination for the local town. But around 4 decades later everything came crashing down when he got involved in a scandal, this was around the year 1994, his dream got shattered and the place got sealed up forever. Today we will venture inside and show you what remains of this forgotten place.

It's good to see that while surely many explorers have been in this place, there is no sign of vandalism.

Seizing a charming hotel and letting it rot is far bigger crime than Mr. Marcel's tax evasion. What a shame.

I'm impressed that despite having been abandoned for almost 30 years, there is not much decay, it's only in a few places but most areas don't have any decay.

This would have been a wonderful home for Senior Living. It's to bad the courts/owner could not see it's full potential. Get well soon Lesley. Happy New Years to you and your crew. From Florida, USA

Such a beautiful place. This is a good lesson, going for more money can, as in this situation, make you loose everything. He obviously put a lot of hard work into this hotel. Watching it rot away is so painful to see. Thank you for this amazing video.

It's true that greed is not profitable. But this hotel clearly was. And in the government's haste to prosecute the owner, it seems they shot themselves in the foot, along with many other people. I can only form an opinion based on the limited information we have about the situation, but why would the French government confiscate all of his assets and throw him in prison - only to close his very profitable hotel down and put hundreds of employees out of work? Why did they not even employ the services of a reputable company to act as receivers? - IE to run the hotel at a profit on behalf of the government until such time as a buyer or a group of investors could be found to take it over? Just closing it down put hundreds of people out of work who would have otherwise paid a lot of money in income taxes and funded their retirement, plus their wages would have been of great benefit to the town (and to the whole economy!) as they'd spend their earnings in the community on food, shelter, utilities, clothing/footwear/accessories etc, and everything else would have been absorbed into other community areas by way of payment for leisure activities of their individual choice - that's just how economies in developed countries work (what goes around, comes around). And the hotel itself would have generated a lot of tax FOR the government itself, and a lot more money for local businesses - for produce and wines for the restaurant, and apart from regular hotel staff they would require the services of other locals as well, such as decorators, artisans & craftsmen to keep the furnishings in good condition, for example - and repairs and maintenance people, for horticulturalists to keep the grounds and gardens up to date, etc etc etc ... What an utter waste to the community it was for the government to simply prosecute the owner and confiscate his property - and then do absolutely nothing with it! They actually punished the whole town as a result of their efforts to punish one person..And now the government is also responsible for the environmental damage that the decaying building will cause, as well as any personal injuries it will inevitably cause to citizens who enter the property unawares of the dangers it presents...and they must also now pay for its ultimate demolition...smh.
But as I said, I can only go by the information we've been given - but it seems anyone would arrive at the same conclusion. I wonder what others think about it?

Heyy dear Lesley, I am always amazed to hear these background stories from you. It's very interesting how closely the well being
of such a location like this hotel is connected to the actions of the former owner, who was sadly involved in a scandal, so that
his life project just collapsed forever. - Of course such a story always leads me to the question: What has eventually happened
to the staff of such a place, because usually a hotel of this caliber has also quite an amount of trained personel taking care
of the location. Did they simply loose their jobs, - and how did they find a new one?!? - Great video dear Lesley, as always, because
every time, when you explore such an amazing abandoned location, you give with your vivid imagination new life to the place.
Simply amazing, my friend! - That is exactly the reason, why I love watching your videos so much, because they always have
this very unique - as I would call it - "Lesleyisch" touch. - It was fascinating to see how untouched a lot of rooms were.
The whole hotel had a true time capsule vibe! - I especially loved that wonderful gorgeous chandelier in the great hall, and
naturally the swimming pool. - It's such a shame, that no kind of repurpuse could be found for this hotel.
Wishing you a wonderful trip in the USA and many new inspirations. God bless you and Maureno on all your ways.
Stay safe, my dear bro, peace many hugs and kindest regards to you and to Maureno and of course also to your adorable brother Jordy.
Additionally: Many many congrats for even surpassing now the 300000 subscribers. - How greeat is that! Wonderful!

Governments are so stupid. A far better solution would have been to administrate the hotel’s continued business with profits being applied to taxes owed. Then there is the sacrifice of such beauty and quality. Considering it’s been abandoned for so long, it’s amazingly well maintained. The dining tables are set & appear to be dust free, beds made up and so many of the accoutrements remain intact. Shame. Thank you for sharing this amazing structure and its story. 🙏

This place is massive and I bet gorgeous in its days before it started to decay..that fireplace in the beginning is humongous and beautiful. My heart just drops everytime I see places like this. The history and story behind it is so sad..Lesley I'm never disappointed traveling with you guys into great finds like this one!! It's so nostalgic. You have done another interesting modern story out of this place or structure! The richness of the lifestyles in those past years are really, really in full view. Very good in finding the old things that are visible but no longer functional since computer technology had already began. Lesley, maybe
the stairs up to the 2nd flr. were constructed in the 80's. Be careful throughout your day! Have a cheerful New Year to the whole tribe! Merci.

The chandelier in the dining room is awesome. The fact that each room has an individual character is actually very nice. And the view is breathtaking. Too bad that no new investor can be found. Of course you have to renovate and modernize a lot, but the location could be a gold mine if a new buyer doesn't play dumb.

You must have enjoyed Christmas very much just the way I enjoy your videos. 😍😍 These videos always take me into another world of imagination, comfort, joy and peace. People with different kinds of nature are around me and they behave wrongly many times, like blaming me even when they themselves are wrong. I feel heartaches, but the moment I watch your documentaries, these give my heart so much peace, smooth honey like soothing effect. Those spectacular views around, magical music, your voice everything makes it worth watching.
Each room is uniquely furnished, even wallpapers were peeling off uniformly. Really that looked like another unique design.
Spectacular sight from those rooms. These don't look old at all. This place is still so clean even after 27 years of abandonment.
Many people are happy with whatever little possession they've, I don't understand why this man was in need of more. Actually it's not need, it's greed that leads people towards wrong path and they lose what they already have. People should realise the real happiness in life.
You did great job as always. Take care. Stay blessed, happy and healthy. 😇😇👍👍🙏🙏

Hi Lesley, it is so weird to see all the tables set with the crockery, as if people are about to return to eat.
The pool looks like it is in good condition. Love the Chandelier. The french government are terrible to leave this hotel abandoned, they could have sold it! Surely someone can rescue this place. OMG That looks like a cake in the oven ??
Yes Lesley, the Elevator is spectacular !! The name sounds German also. I like the red room & how all the rooms are different.
Hotel rooms lock automatically when you close the doors, that is why the ones that are open have a chair propped against them.
Maybe there was something else going on here with the government to close down this hotel. It may have been political?
This place is worth Millions, could Mr Marcel tax bill been worth millions ........ i doubt it as he only did 7 years.

This was a great find. It is too bad that the government could not use the property for something. Thanks for such a great guide throughout the hotel.I am looking forward to the next adventure.

Those flowers must be silk? Because they would have died if not. Odd that in this huge dining room the chairs are just plain wood. The railings above that room are beautiful. Great video!!!

Such a shame that vandals got in and did so much damage there is some really sweet beds and matching wallpaper and bed covers i agree that its more of a crime letting it rot away like it is well done for filming guys .

The showers are only to rinse yourself off before swimming and rinsing after swimming. Not really for full on showering.
