  • Welcome to Brothers of Decay! We are a group of individuals who have a passion for exploring abandoned places. Our aim is to document these forgotten locations and uncover the stories that lie within.
In this video, we take you on a journey through the Vasconcelos family's abandoned house, a place that has been left to decay for four decades. The Vasconcelos family was once one of the wealthiest and most influential in this Portuguese region, with deep roots in politics and a long history of shaping the country's future. However, their dirty secrets were exposed in the mid-1980s, leading to their downfall, and eventually, fleeing from the country.
We hope you enjoy this exploration of the Vasconcelos family's abandoned house. If you enjoyed the video and would like to support us, please consider making a small donation on our Patreon page ( / brosofdecay . How come I cannot find anything about Jose or Maria Vasconcelos if they were as prominent as claimed and as prosperous as this? Who were these people? (I am a Finnishman, not a Portuguese)

I grew up in a home with 9 kids. We were mom, dad and me and 4 of sisters still at home (two half siblings grown and out on their own) when my parents took in four of my cousins. Of these cousins there were two girls and two boys ages 2,4,7 and 9. I was about 5 years old at the time. We lived on a ranch in California and had a 4 bedroom house.

i am oldest of 7. we had a 3br ranch and after parents divorced, we lived in a 2br duplex. had a couch that pulled out into 2 single beds. i had one, mom had the other. 4 girls in one room, 2 boys in the other. my brother had 10 kids. the 12 of them lived in a 1br house. the dining room was turned into a br for all the kids and he and wife had the bedroom (quite small). house had larger kitchen, 1 bath w/shower, no tub, living room, dining room, bedroom.

Oh wow! This is a fantastic home to explore in beautiful Portugal. As a student of European history and politics I couldn't resist doing a bit of investigation myself. I looked up the family and it seems they were active in government for many years of the 20th century. Even a Prime Minister of Portugal at one time as well!
Great find as ever and I just loved the cheeky comments from Lesley as we went around the house.
Thanks and I look forward to the next one!

Have not yet watched this video to the end nor researched the Vasconcelos properly but it is possible the ordinary commoners and their offspring have nothing negative to say about Vasconcelos family....just like the ordinary commoners did not all that much hate criminals such as Pablo Escobar (of Columbia) and Robin Hood (of United Kingdom) nor the Roman politician and general Julius Caesar the Populares member either. On the contrary.

This was such great research done and the history was so well known. The Last Supper on the Wall shocked me as it was the "EXACT" same looking one that my husband brought home to me while in the Viet Nam War when in the Navy while in Italy! It was the exact same design and one of the best made, as I have always said that I have ever seen! I let my children take it, and then did not see it again. I have asked them about it, and yet do not see it, but they claim to have it. If they do not want it i would take it back, as my husband did get it from Italy and we just thought the children may want it for keeping, but when seeing it on the wall and it will now be ruined, and this looks like that one (although I know it is not the same one) but it just shocked me as have never seen another just like it before! It is so beautiful and with some cleaning and brushing up some I know thsi one can be saved but now it will be totally destroyed! so terrible.
This had to be such a special home, but yet we cannot have anything forever, so it seems.
It is too bad they had to more in the wrong direction and want to look at the greed and wealth of life and all the power an forget the most important things in life. They would possibly still be there if it was right for them anyway. Who knows maybe now they have made themselves a new life in another country and live well, but living a life that is legal? That would be great if it is true. But if history repeats itself, they may still have a downfall. Often, we need to learn lessons and we just do not learn them easily and take everyone else, especially family, with us.
Thank you for showing us all of these homes from the past and also giving some history to each if able.

    • @Cybernaut76
      @Cybernaut76 Рік тому

@@nicolad8822 Yeah. If this Vasconcelos had anything to do with dictator Salazar, he would have had to flee Portugal about fifty years ago, not forty years ago. Dictator Salazar lost his office in 1968 (because he became incapacitated to be a leader due to falling in coma) and President Tomas (who fired Salazar due to Salazar becoming unable to work as a leader), was himself removed from presidency in 1974 by the Carnation Revolution, ending forty eight years of authoritarian rule in Portugal. This Vasconcelos is very obviously a fictional/made up person.

Hi Lesley & Danny, this Abandoned Palace was Beautiful from the outside with the Tile & Roof! Thanks Danny for all your info
on Portugal items! It`s a real shame that with all the people living around this Palace, someone didn`t talk to someone about
buying this place, before everything rots away! Love the Double Big Stained Glass Doors inside in Green!
    You said 7 Children & 2 Parents & 1 Maid is 10 !
Carpet on the walls is called Tapestry...which they have them in USA ! The Sickle or also spelled Scythe you saw for the fields
next to it in comments said that tool was a Antique Portuguese Hair Crimper, But in the USA the blades were straight from
    1920`s to 1930`s !!
Love the sky light in the kitchen, the tiles, the oven & the stove! Pet birds are here in USA in a cage that you saw on the shelf
    in the kitchen!
Love the Unique Carved Chests & Detail on Bed Frames!!
Upstairs: Beautiful Sky Light above near the stairs! Closing the Shutters in bedroom by the painting of Crying Boy will save it!
Barn: Grape Press & Grape Barrels was Awesome Find! Wow, Danny 1 or 2 twice a year owners would do the pressing to make wine!!
Thanks Lesley & Danny for taking All of Us on this Journey to see the Palace!!
Take care & stay safe, Love from Central Illinois USA🥰❤

I wish I could go explore old castles with you. I love old castles more than anyone especially the 10000 year old ones and the 500 year old ones. I am in love with you. I watch these videos every day in the evening when all my work is done for the day I watch Explomo and Bros of decay. Old castles are my favorite.

It’s a beautiful historical home, simple but beauty , I love a house like this , sadly the owner is not a hornets man and have to live a life of running away, left a beautiful home behind, thank you for sharing a unique and and interesting place.

Wish your videos were longer, especially in countries that are foreign to me. I always see so many things that I would love to hear about or ask about.
