The traditional belief that dolls/statues or anything that looks human or represent a human form can absorb harmful spirits and bad omens from previous owners is common in Japan I think that's why they don't steal such items?
    Also fun fact:
A ceremony held in November in the city of saitama allows the owners of dolls that have soaked up bad spirits to purify them in a funeral pyre.

I would have gone insane with happiness in that place. I am a huge, huge fan of art and statuary. And that place was mind blowing - like walking into a dream world. Incredible!!!!!! I don't know what's the most amazing the huge quantity of the status or the fact that the mansion is unlockedd all over for 20 years and nobody has taken anything from there. Very different culture than ours in Europe. By the way most of the status are replicas of ancient Greeks and Romans. So it is the big lion in the basement. Thank you guys for that beautiful and so different experience. For me,as a Greek person, is so special to see so many greek status miles and miles away from Greece!!!!!!

I wouldn’t believe word of mouth on the history of the place either. I agree it’s a showroom of some sort and likely the owner passed away. However most buildings left abandoned in Japan like that are sites of suicides. No one wants to take a building over there where one occurred. They are very particular about that.

It is hard to believe people actually live is such grandeur. It might be a nice place to visit but I have to say that I honestly wouldn’t want to live there.
