If this video gets to over 5000 thumbs up I'll explore and film more in Portugal!!! In today's video, I travel to Portugal and document one of the most incredible abandoned places in the world. The Palace of the Patriarchs is a once summer residence for the patriarchs of Lisbon but its true origins lie with Count Burnay, one of the richest persons in Portugal, who renovated it during the 17th century. Having started in 1701 and ended in 1734. The palace has since undergone changes and restoration works in the 19th century and more recently in the 1940s. In recent years The palace is currently the seat of the rectory services and social actions of the Technical University of Lisbon but still has yet to see a glimpse of hoep as it lays forgotten in time, with only explorers coming to see what remains..
Kilz is a type of paint you could use to cover the graffiti... it would need cleaning and then paint the Kilz on it to cover it ...it comes in white and eggshell and can be tinted.
Can you imagine what there other home was like. This was their summer home 😂.. it's sickening to see the graffiti. What a shame. And it's only going to get worse if something isn't done real soon.. lock it up very well. And fix it. . I'd pay to go inside most definitely. It's taxes for the town.
I'm Portuguese and I'm so sad to see one of our palaces completely abandoned and vandalized. On the other hand thank you so much for the amazing video really! Please keep it up your work!!!
I wish the taggers who scarred up walls, the safe, etc... with graffiti, would have had the same respect for this incredible piece of history as Steve has... I just watched the video further, and I see Steve's addressing the graffiti issue. I pray they find who did it. To bad a reward couldn't be raised, because some people are more willing to report these things, when money is offered.
You guys have a dream job. I have to say, I had the same gut reaction to the graffiti that you did. Who indeed. I can’t imagine anyone thinking their art was more impressive than that room and needed to be seen. Such a spectacular place. It makes me heart sad to see these places not being used.
This is the beautiful Burnay Palace (Palácio Burnay). It belongs to the State and, for decades, has been a College Called ISCSP (Superior Institute of Social and Politics Sciences). I’ve studied here for 4 Years. It was a magical place. Last Year it has been vandalized and all the Beautiful paintings were robbed... I hope for the day that the palace will be restaured...
I had no ideia you were in Portugal!! It makes me very happy to see an amazing explorer like you explore my country ♥️ I hope you liked your stay here and had fun!
Steve, I’m from NewEngland Massachusetts I know your from there also. I’ve been watching you since from the beginning, along with John,Josh, etc. I love the way you are so devoted to your videos and fans . It’s so relaxing to watch you . You are so calm, no loud voices, no people yelling in the back round. Anything can be restored Steve if you have the money ! Keep up the good work. ❤️🙏🏻 Stay safe !
I’ve just been to Portugal and visited an incredible castle. OMG, people, I have seen some beautiful places thanks to folks who tour these amazing buildings so those of us who can’t take trips to see them in person get to see them. Thank you so very much Steve. This building is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. As you walked down the halls I imagined being there back in the day. Living there as a young girl. All the beauty around. I wonder is anyone could take it for granted. I have no words for how incredible it is. How fortunate the people were to have lived in such splendor. Keep up the good work Steve and always be safe. I’ll be following you in the future as I enjoy your soft respectful voice and above all our disgust with the graffiti. I certainly hope you are able to fine someone to clean it up. I know there are companies in the USA that do that kind of work so there are surely some in Portugal. Good luck. SE Kansas, USA
That's crazy how people disrespect any place unless they are artists but that place is amazing I am enjoying seeing you guys go to places and share it with people in the world
Well you asked about me. I am from Nashville Tennessee (born and raised) Just north of Nashville now. Couldn't stand city life anymore so I moved to the country. And old enuf to be your grandma probably. I enjoy your videos tremendously. Keep up the good work
It's so sad to see a beautiful and historical place destroyed this way. I watch all your videos, and I see your care and respect for the places and the people that might have been ther before. A curiosity: I don't know if there is any place in Portugal with the same name, but there is a city in Brazil named "Curitiba", so now I feel ashamed to be a Brazilian.
I know the government should protect these beautiful architecture and keep them as museum instead of letting it sit there get destroyed and rough. I am sure a lot of people will enjoy looking at the history and will appreciate the beautiful architecture.
This Palazzo is totally amazing. Why have they not done something with it. It would make a perfect Library. I wish I could afford to turn it into a world famous Library.
I love how you treat the place with such respect and appreciation Steve! You seem to be a kind person. Grateful for this video. I am from Portugal and it saddens me to see Graffiti all over historical monuments. If I had any saying in this, these people would get the harshest prison penalties and the spray can manufacturers would get penalized and taxed to pay for the clean up of their products!
Europe has a massive heat wave and good old Steve Ronin still goes exploring. Amazing job Steve at a huge personal sacrifice. This trip is one of your best in my humble opinion. Great job and thanks for introducing history and beauty to my life.
You know… I know that I am from here, Portugal and I also know you said you would come here one day! You did❤️ and so happy you love what you’ve seen! Come back again soon! Much love 💕
Definitely gorgeous! I love the staircase same as the spiral case, the ceilings and carvings so beautiful. Thank you Steve for taking us along. By the way advance Happy birthday Steve! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. Thank you for all your hardwork just to show us the beautiful abandoned places in the world. Take care and keep it up. God bless💗💗💗
Kids these days!! Such a shame. What a stunning home! Those skylights are gorgeous! The chandelier is on that cable so it can be lowered and cleaned regularly. Watching from Texas 🇨🇱!
Apparently this property owned by the govt failed to secure the property. Those responsible for being derelict in their jobs should be fired immediately. Those responsible for the thefts and vandalism should be caught and severely punished. This belongs to all the citizens of Portugal and is integral to their history...
Thank you for the tours and discoveries you bring us into. This mansion so called school can be restored .Graffi can be removed and should also. Beautiful ceilings love it
Hi Steve, I'm from Georgia USA, I agree about today's architecture it has no life! It doesn't move you. Today's architecture doesn't move you, it doesn't breathe with stories to be told!! Hello from Portugal 🇵🇹 (Cascais) and i love you vídeos
All of the detail and carved walls and ceilings were just beautiful!
Steve this is why out of all of you guys, your my fav… just the way you were so upset about the graffiti was so mature and so respectful. I can’t believe that white was wallpaper!! I can’t imagine how much something like that would cost!
Awesome architecture. When you were at the safe I believe there was a secret room behind it. Thank you for sharing. Blessings
So glad I came across your videos! You do a great job on providing some background information, being interactive, and most importantly respectful to the energy in the space. I too love opulence and time capsules. This palace was EXTRAVAGENCE. ❤️
Wow to think someone used to live there, amazing beautiful place. Thanks Steve 😘
Love watching your videos. What amazing adventures you have experienced. I'm from Kentucky
