Got one , done 4k miles on it this summer, I'm 6ft, no issues with my nees, it comes with a plug to unlock Dynamic Pro, thought it's a track mode really. It's great just about right amount of power, and it handles fantastic, you can take liberty's with it, It is more lively than the xr different gearing, I had my seat done with memory foam, so I would guess that you have the comfort seat, and I've got the blue one😁, So yes if you are looking for a sporty roadster, not a naked sports bike, then consider this bike, And there is going to be a single make race series in BSB with this bike next year.
If you get to keep this for a bit longer, please let us know how it compares to your CB650R and your previous MT-07. To me this seems like a more refined stepped up MT-07
I've reached out to BMW UK but we'll see. Worth a shot anyway! My first thought about this bike was that I didn't like the look but then I saw it in San Marino Blue and with a windscreen. It's a really useable engine, plenty of grunt but the real star is how it handles in the bends. So flickable. Slightly disappointed with the small tank size though. Defintely better than the MT07 in terms of performance but you also have to look at price too. MT07's are so cheap!
EnglishBikerDan I’m coming from a Ninja 650 so it sounds the bump in power is exactly what I’m looking for. I could find many more options out there that’ll give greater power/weight/price ratios, but this bike is perfect for me because it seems like an awesome blend of performance, safety and tech features, yet comfortable and stable riding enough for some moderate touring. I found the Ninja 650 to be an absolute rockstar as an all-rounder and perfect as my first bike and venture into motorcycling, but my only desire was that it had just a bit more power and grunt for those more spirited times outside the daily commute or tour.
@@benwells2338 Have you considered the Street Triple? Likely the R would be a good one for you. maximus9401 you know, I really haven’t looked into the Triumph all that much, though I do know it constantly gets raving reviews from journalists and owners alike. Embarrassingly to admit, I’m sure a big reason why I never gave it a fair shake is the headlight housing looking like an afterthought, sort of just protruding from the handlebars awkwardly. The 2020 refresh definitely helped resolve some of that awkward design, but it still resembles too much like Wall-E from the Pixar movie or ET the alien. To be totally fair though, there are also things I would change about the Beemer, largely how the screen is a gross flashback to early car design when large multimedia screens were first being adopted. The single headlight I feel, should also be enlarged just a tad to better meld with the heavy stance of the bodywork/fuel tank behind the handlebars. I’m an architect by profession so design is placed higher up in consideration than it might be for many others, but you’re spot on in suggesting I look at the Street Triple. Like the BMW, it too has a great blend of tech, fit and finish, power, and comfort 👌
@@benwells2338 I totally get the dislike the headlight design. They don't bother me too much, but I'm not a fan either. So guys I own a Honda CB 650r and I recently rode the BMW F900r. Now I am seriously thinking of buying the F900r. Reasons are - 1. There was no throttle play. This made low speed manoeuvres much easier and made the riding experience so much better 2. The suspension is so much better. It did absorb the bumps a lot better (The bike did not have comfort seat). Honda is not great over bumps. In UK in our B roads it can get really bumpy. 3. The bike is really nimble. The honda feels heavier on the front than this bike. The BMW was so chuckable in the corners I thought I was riding a 500cc bike. BMW is heavier than Honda but trust me it felt lighter than the CB650r. 4. Brakes are better. 5. Seating position - your knees are slightly a bite more angled than the CB650r but it made hugging the tank a lot better. I rode for an hour - did not feel uncomfortable. I am 5’ 11’’. 6. The noise from the engine is great. It comes at you from the front of the bike which you dont get on the Honda. You feel vibrations but as Dan says its good type of vibration. 7. The mirrors dont vibrate as much as the Honda. 8. No false neutrals and not a single issue with shifting (the bike I rode did not have quick shifter). 9. Last not least - yes this bike as more horsepower and torque but it was not scary at all. Its very well behaved especially if you have it at Road or Rain mode. I didnt once feel this bike was too much. If you want to have fun, take it past 4000rpm or put dynamic mode on and you will really unleash the beast. All in all, I felt much much better than the Honda. If you are undecided between the two definitely try them both on a test ride. Thought I’d share my opinion/experience. Shoutout to Dan - always love your content. Keep them coming.
So... Dan... I finally gave into the temptation and bought one! F900R SE version. Absolutely love it. Felt much much better, more confident and so much more comfortable to ride. Mind you I went for the high handlebar option as well. This bike doesnt surprise you - especially if you have it in Rain mode. It absolutely meets the brief - great first big bike and maybe even for beginners who have just passed full A license.

I've just bought one on the back of this (and a few other) reviews. It's a cracking bike, mines pretty much the same spec as this but with the touring pack. The seat in the review is the standard seat. I've done 500 miles in just over 4 weeks, I can't wait for the running in service to be done so I can really stretch her legs. I've been eyeing that bike....it might be my next upgrade. I'm on my 3rd season with my baby Beemer G310R. It's super in the city (which is mostly what I do...commuting) but out on the country roads you have to go full throttle to do much passing. lol!
Nice bike! Yes, in blue! Nice shop too. Yes, I've been there. Passed it on our way home to Denmark from Wales last summer. Have to give this bike a go. Even though I can't imagin it's better than my CB650R!

The BMW is a few grand more so I'm expecting it to be the better bike but how is the improvement vs cost? I had my eye on this bike since the bike show in Manchester last year however settled on the Honda as its my first big bike and I think its been the right decision.
Thanks for the kind comment. Briefly, the engine is very different. More immediate torque and the engine doesn't need to spin up as much as the CB. Suspension feels better on the F900R, less harsh and better at actually absorbing the impacts of the road wheras with the CB I find it feels like it bottoms out a bit at times. Brakes on the F900R are way better. However, the CB for me wins with looks and price. It's such great bike for what you pay and still does most things pretty well!
Weird comment as I started reading it. I just got a CB650R as well and was looking at the F900R. I got a good price on both but the CB650R came out $2,000 USD cheaper so I had to go with the CB. Loving it so far.
Like you, the looks to me weren’t all that great. I liked the bike almost purely as a logical purchase for my next bike since I’m currently in the market. I went to the dealer however, saw it in black, and I just couldn’t stop staring at it and loved the hard angles and dynamism of it all. It’s a very modern looking machine without going overboard I feel. It seems that the quickshifter/blipper on a lot of these new bikes need refining other than Suzuki who seem to have a brilliant system on their gsxr1000r which operates really smoothly at all rpm on upshifts and downshifts.
I think some of that is down to the engine type. A big twin just won't be as smooth as an inline four due to the pulse effect. The quickshifter on the CBR650R I have at the moment is silky smooth but the one I had on my MT07 would be really clunky unless spanking it.

F900R - which I chose anyway - is more a daily commuter with 10-15% less vicious intentions, but still deliver a huge amount of fun from ride and doesn’t make you feel an old, boring guy
The F900R is quite a bit heavier. I'd say the easiest way to describe it is that the 790 Duke is super light and fun with a snarling engine, the F900R is composed but firm and just gets on with it without any fuss. I love both bikes for different reasons but the F900R would be better for everyday use I feel but the 790 is more fun.

Dave, Dan’s bike had the standard seat. Comfort seat is higher in height and has a crease that runs through the back part of the seat. Google bmw f900r comfort seat. You will see.
Because it can easily do it, you can afford to sit in a gear like that. He may have also been anticipating an upcoming bend and wanted to use the engine braking.

Haha no bother! I'd personally choose the Street Triple RS. Slightly better performance and I prefer the look overall. Plus a triple engine! 900R is good though. 👍
Hi Dan! I am looking to buy either this or the Ninja 650. I like the sports tourer a little more due to its better looks and the fairing, tipping towards the Ninja 650. Also, the 650 costs much lesser. How would you compare the BMW to the Ninja? I like the comfort and daily commute nature of the Ninja tho.
I do own this bike, sadly it failed in the first 300km. clutch problems. still rideable but from standstill there comes a weird grinding noise from the clutch. overall indeed a very good bike
Nice review, but for me it looks just like most bikes out there this bike is what took over from the F800GT which I had and loved I wish they had overhalled the GT.
For God’s sake why don’t you have more subs,Dan? Excellent reviews from a down to earth guy... keep up the good work and be safe 🤙 Think this Beemer is better than the CB650R ? I’m riding the Honda for 5 months now and I’m very pleased with it... but I’m getting ‘used’ to it , to be honest. Rode the Street Triple RS some weeks back and that stole my heart to be honest. But should I stick with the CB or should I trade up? Is it worth it ? Since you ride so many different bikes I would like to hear your opinion tbh 😉
That's because it is a bit of sewing machine. What else would you expect out of a Chinese build engine. It's a bloody disgrace that BMW are mugging off their customers by promoting a premium brand with a cheap Chinese engine to keep the accounts happy
Is this still a Rotax motor like the 800s were? If so, I would highly caution anyone against buying one. I had a 2008 F800ST. It sure seemed like it checked all of the boxes- lightweight, good power and torque, impressive fuel economy. Lots of nice stuff like the underseat gas tank, single sided swingarm, belt drive heated grips. But of the 15+ bikes I've owned in the last 14 years or so it was the WORST! I hated that thing with a passion. That engine sounded like it had a bunch of loose nuts and bolts rattling around inside it due to terrible piston slap. Totally unacceptable for ANY modern engine to sound like that let alone something "premium" like a BMW. I know Rotax has made a lot of good engines and BMW makes good bikes but that parallel twin 800- avoid, avoid, avoid!!!!
Not sure who would buy one, being an S1000r owner I couldn’t see me buying one of these, much prefer an MT09 SP if I went for something naked with less hp
I think it's a good move from BMW, a middleweight naked bike at around the right price. It has decent power and is really fun to ride. I don't think they'll have any issues selling them. More choice is always good I say.
@@liksombara822 ya the fz/mt07 is prolly better bro just deal with it. When you see these are selling well over 11000 usd with options it's a rip-off with a Chinese engine

I'd say the easiest way to describe it is that the 790 Duke is super light and fun with a snarling engine, the F900R is composed but firm and just gets on with it without any fuss. I love both bikes for different reasons but the F900R would be better for everyday use I feel but the 790 is more fun.
How's it compare to your CB650 Dan? I've got one which I'm more than happy with but this BMW has caught my fancy. Would you consider it an upgrade ?
Yeah, a little more power and a better suspension setup for the road. It's a modest upgrade.
hullo there ".) fantastic review ...like your casual yet informative approach. could you pls do an in depth ride review on the Kawasaki z900 pls. it falls in this category. the 2020 version has electronic and rider modes updates. so it would be great if you can do a review on the z900. Thanks. cheers Abe.
If you liked this, you should try the R1250R. I've ridden this one and the xr, while my R1250RS had it's first 1000km maintenance. It was a nice bike, but on the 1250 you will feel like coming home on your bike
Oh I did last year. Bonkers torque! I like the look of the new 1250RS. Cheers 👍
I saw another biker pass by going other direction and wondered, how do you guys do the motorcycle wave from the wrong side of the road?
Biker nod
We nod. 😁
Not keen on that paint scheme. The red and white looks great though
Do you think the F900R is a better road bike than the GSX S1000? Which one has the better quickshifter?
I have question to you, what's the name of that camera did u use located in the handlebar?tnx
how does it Compare to the Street Triple on bends?
It's a fair bit heavier but the F900R feels pretty spritely in the corners.
Was it a comfort seat or standard?
Test ride the new street r 2020 please Dan can't find any reviews anywhere!!
It's not out yet. As soon as it is I'll be on one. 👍
Dan what jacket do you wear?
May i ask what brand and model your jacket and pants are, they look really good!
Certainly, Oxford Mondial jacket and trousers. The only gear that's been 100% waterproof in my 16 years of riding!
Nice! What helmet make and model please? Great reviews!
Hello, may i ask for your opinion,
Which is better duke 790 or f900r
Hello. Do you think that this is a good bike for very beginners?
Hey, not impossible for a new rider but I would always recommend starting smaller. Personal opinion. 👍
@@Englishbikerdan I just ordered one in my bmw dealership. I want a bike which one I’m gonna ride 4,5,6 years and don’t want to buy smaller then sell it after one season and then buy another and on and on… So… did I make the right choice will see. I’m driving my motorcycle license courses right now on Honda CB650R so I think I should be fine.
Hi Dan, hope you are well and safe . I would like to ask you the brand and the model of the camera on your handlebar recording your front? Many thanks
Hey, all good thanks and hope you are well too! For the main ride I use the GoPro Hero 7 and the other cam is the Insta360 One X.
Hello!
A motorcycle is a splendid vehicle!
The motorcycle best!
Really like the review Dan, I’m hitting the subscribe button! I ride a Z900rs hopefully I’ll get to see you review one and hear your take on the bike compared to the Beeemer.
Can you (or have you) reviewed the R1250RS?
What are your thoughts, this or the triumph Street triple R/rs ?
Street Triple R all day long.
@@Englishbikerdan thank you , I'm currently looking at both 👍
How is the rider heat between this and the 790 Duke?
Great review!!! Lovely bike. I must ask, what is the camera on the handle bars looking back at the rider?? It's a great shot!
Does it have cruise control
Is that osmo pocket camera?
No it's the Insta360 One X.
Okay, thank you for response..
Fab review, was the seat the standard one? Or specific comfort seat pls. Tks
Dave, Dan’s bike had the standard seat. Comfort seat is higher in height and has a crease that runs through the back part of the seat. Google bmw f900r comfort seat. You will see.
Like the vid. Just wondered if you had a good reason to be still in 4th gear at 60mph on a clear section of road?
Because it can easily do it, you can afford to sit in a gear like that. He may have also been anticipating an upcoming bend and wanted to use the engine braking.
I generally don't think about what gear I'm in. I go by what feels right on the bike and for the situation.
Would you swap your bike for it Dàn?
Great review, thanks. Would like your opinion on this vs KTM 790 Duke? There are some great bargains out there at the moment on a new one.
My instant reaction, 790! it's just so much fun. The beemer is more composed though but not as brutal.
Aqui no Brasil não vende essa moto, primeiro canal no UA-cam que vejo mostra essa moto.🇧🇷
What camera are you using on the bike
Insta 360 One X.
Hey mate, between this and the new bmw f900r which would you choose personally? Keep up the good work. Cheers
Sry, i had your street triple 2020 rs video up and i thought i was commenting on that one. So my question basically was: between the triumph street triple rs and this bike which would you choose? Sry for the mistake ....
Haha no bother! I'd personally choose the Street Triple RS. Slightly better performance and I prefer the look overall. Plus a triple engine! 900R is good though. 👍
Nice video, is this beter than Kawa Z900?? price the same!! what you do think??
I've not ridden the Kwak yet.
Great video Dan as always. What video editing software do you use? Great vid.
Thanks, I use Adobe Premier Pro.
@@Englishbikerdan ah, great cheers!
The country side there is beautiful.
Looks a nice bike. What kind of camera is on the handlebars Dan ?
That's the Insta360 One X. Really cool bit of kit. 👍
As its me ( again ) I've got to ask that question -> how does it compare to CB650R (as day to day bike)?? I'm looking for 2nd bike after my 125
And I'm 31 y and 5' 6" tall
I'd have to have the BMW on a more long term basis to really give an answer on that. Sadly that's not going to happen anytime soon. :(
I really wonder how this bike compares to the MT09
The short answer..... The BMW has a less powerful and less exciting engine but handles so much better than the MT09.
What model Shark helmet do you have ?
D-Skwal 2.0
great video it was well made
I've not ridden the Ninja so I can't comment just yet 🤐😁
@@Englishbikerdan Okay... But do post if you decide to test the Ninja 650! 😁
Why is the insurance more on this bike than my 2016 s1000r?
Probably a question for your insurance company!
Couldn't they have fitted it with some prettier mirrors...
I wonder how this compares to the KTM Duke 890 R.
Night and day I'm willing to bet.
Could just be the microphone but the engine sounds buzzy and tinny to me!
Yeah it was much deeper in person.
I do own this bike, sadly it failed in the first 300km. clutch problems. still rideable but from standstill there comes a weird grinding noise from the clutch. overall indeed a very good bike
What’s the make of your jacket my friend?
Oxford Mondial. Excellent all weather jacket!
how is the fuel economy?
Abdul Hakim bin Ahmad
6-6,5 L/100km
Average from 500km
@@tymoteusztomczak8447 thanks
Great video, really liked it!
Do you have a list of your current gear? I like your jacket alot
0:58 does anyone else see an evil smiley face in the headlight?
Anyone know the name of the jacket he’s wearing?
Probably easier to ask me. 😂 Oxford Delta 1.0.
Lol silly me. Would love to see a video of all your gear
@@Dantwi24 Yeah I've been meaning to do that video for ages. Soon. 👍
Nice review
When is xr coming ????
Already done, check my channel. 👍
what jacket r u wearing?
Oxford Mondial. Awesome jacket 👍
@@Englishbikerdan thank you Sir
Nice review, but for me it looks just like most bikes out there this bike is what took over from the F800GT which I had and loved I wish they had overhalled the GT.
A top review n good content 😃🏍️. North of England
Thanks Anna 👍
For God’s sake why don’t you have more subs,Dan?
Excellent reviews from a down to earth guy... keep up the good work and be safe 🤙
Think this Beemer is better than the CB650R ? I’m riding the Honda for 5 months now and I’m very pleased with it... but I’m getting ‘used’ to it , to be honest. Rode the Street Triple RS some weeks back and that stole my heart to be honest. But should I stick with the CB or should I trade up? Is it worth it ? Since you ride so many different bikes I would like to hear your opinion tbh 😉
I'm having a few beers this evening but I'll have a think and reply tomorrow. Tempted by the F900R tbh! Cheers dude. 👍
EnglishBikerDan cheers 🍻

Hey Just Saw Ur Video For the First time and Its Good... Can U Make Royal Enfield GT 650 or Interceptor 650 Video.. Its Can Get U More Views..
Thanks, I'll see what I can do. 👍
Nice bike 👍✌️👍✌️
That instrument cluster looks a cluster f*** from the front. Such a shame the rest of it looks great.
Still going for Nuda .. !
Nice
Sounds like you’re sitting on a sewing machine.
It’s definitely got that classic beemer twin sound..
Haha it does a bit! It's definitely a beefy engine note in person though. Would sound great with an aftermarket exhaust. Cheers! 👍
That's because it is a bit of sewing machine. What else would you expect out of a Chinese build engine. It's a bloody disgrace that BMW are mugging off their customers by promoting a premium brand with a cheap Chinese engine to keep the accounts happy
PG GP its a cheap bike. Great option for some people that don’t care where the engine is built
You keep going round blind bends like that it want be good OK
No these use Chinese engines now.
@@Englishbikerdan from Loncin
Not sure who would buy one, being an S1000r owner I couldn’t see me buying one of these, much prefer an MT09 SP if I went for something naked with less hp
I think it's a good move from BMW, a middleweight naked bike at around the right price. It has decent power and is really fun to ride. I don't think they'll have any issues selling them. More choice is always good I say.
I'd consider buying one when I change my CB650R.
please bmw... open your eyes...it looks a japanese bike...
FZ07
No
@@liksombara822 ya the fz/mt07 is prolly better bro just deal with it. When you see these are selling well over 11000 usd with options it's a rip-off with a Chinese engine
Not a fan of the looks or weight of this bike.
Not a fan of your comment
I wish the bike just looked better haha it’s so ugly 🤮😂
It's a Beemer, most of them look ugly.
Chinese, what a shame...
I believe that the engine is manufactured in China. Not sure where the whole bike is assembled.
Engine in China @ Loncin, the Bike i believe in Spandau
This is an absolute shitter of all motorcycle. Rattly parallel twin with questionable build quality. All from a so called prestige manufacturer. BMW should hang their heads in shame for putting their badge of this outsourced piece of garbage
@@applecorp An interesting comment from someone so obsessed with cocks. 🥱 Oh by the way if you're going to criticize someone's informed comment. Here is a bit of free advice: check your grammar first
