Having a parrot is like having a 3 year old child for 80 years. Everyone should think of that if they think they want one.
She will have to make arrangements for him when she's gone, with good health, he's gonna outlive her.
That's exactly right... The perfect arrangement would've been to rescue a parrot that's my age or very close, but this opportunity came up to rescue him and I didn't think of him outliving me.
@@LeezaCD I think you're an angel for adopting him.
@@LeezaCD Are you sure how old he is? You mentioned 3 previous owners.
@@Ansonidak Yes, im sure of his age. He went through 3 other homes in just the first 14 months of his life. Then when I got him (at 14 months old) he barely had yellow feathers on his head because he was still so young and his beak was much smaller too (both signs of a DYH parrot being very young).
I have a picture with me and my parrot from 1986, and one from 2019. People cannot believe it's the same bird. Yes, friends for lifetime. It's not a pet, it's a brother.

so your a parrot as well??? lol
It’s hard with a dating life. A lot woman refuse to share the amount of attention and space with a parrot. Makes dating hard. Had a few fights with my girlfriend cause she tried giving me an ultimatum if we get married.
I miss my parrot he used to hate me. He loved my sister instead he couldn’t stand me approaching her , he was very jealous and used to run after Me. One day I closed my rooms door and he was furious he started waving his wings against the door like someone banging 😂😂. But he missed me so much when I went one month holiday my sister said he was very quiet and sad cause he didn’t have anyone to fight with.
LOL XD 😂

@@nahidahsultan7264 what?
glad she kept reminding people that birds aren't easy and are forever so you have to be able to commit but they're worth it if you can commit to them
Lots of people don't know how hard parrots are to take care of and how long they live, and so parrots become neglected/abused or are given away. It's a common story to see parrots go through multiple homes and have plucking issues because they were neglected. More people need to be aware of the difficulties of these pets and not get them unless they're prepared to committ.

I remember the second I became obsessed with birds. I was I believe 7 and my family was taking a little trip to this old Amish town that was turned into a tourist spot. Outside there was a man with a scarlet macaw sitting on the end of this long stick he was holding. The parrot completely trusted him and he completely trusted the parrot. It was at that second I became obsessed. I always wanted this sort of love, this kind of companionship. I hope someday I'll be able to get a parrot from a rescue, one that most people maybe wouldn't want. They're always the ones with most personality. When I was 12 I first had a bird land on me, it was at this place in a small town in Virginia. There was an aviary with parakeets that you could walk into. If you had this stick with food at the end of it, they'd land on you. I found an abandoned stick that still had feed on it, and a parakeet landed on me. Unfortunately for me it decided to pull off my hangnails so that hurt like hell, but I didnt mind because I was crying from the sheer happiness. Anyways thats all have a good day and follow your dreams.
Did you get one yet. You sound as if you would make a great bird dad.
This bird is so loyal he doesn’t need to be in a cage, cause he won’t fly away and never come back.
Nah sometimes parrots fly away and get lost. They see something that looks interesting goes and sometimes don't manage to come back. A lot of parrots don't get a chance to practice their swooping ability so a lot cannot physically get down from trees cause they can't fly straight down
@@justjello7599 ye that's how we lost our parrot. He got excited and went to this high ass tree and we couldn't get him down. The next day, he was gone.

I have a couple of theories. Either someone in that house plays opera music quite often, someone taught him how to sing, or he often sneaks to listen to people singing in the shower, and copies them 🤣
Hi, this is my parrot :) He actually didn't learn opera from us - we can't sing much less sing vibrato that way LOL! he learnt opera from hearing it play on the classical music radio station

Do tehy fly away... If u don't cut their wings
@@bhanwarsingh5482 they shouldn't fly away if they are trained and trust you. Most reasons why pet birds get lost is because they get curious about something and can't get back home or something spooks them and they can't get back home
If you're afraid that your bird will get lost then get a pigeon/dove, parrots are actually flock animals and if they trust you enough they'll never leave you because they consider you as a part of their flock.
tristan 123455 You’re right. I’m not worried about him leaving but a few years ago we were out and a hawk came down at him. Luckily, he missed the first strike and he can fly circles around a lumbering hawk but it shook me up.

Its amazing he doesnt fly away. What a beautiful soul
I am so happy to see the little guy get treated with love, dedication, and the respect he deserves. This is exactly how I treat my yellow-naped amazon girl. Out on a trip, whether to the park or just shopping, almost daily if weather permits and never locked in a cage when at home. Flying around, laughing, and singing. She is confident and happy, as is the bird in the video. Thank you.
"A pet is for life" is how we should ALL think! Can't stand when people give up their pets because it's not convenient for them anymore (Soulless POS). We made a commitment to take care of them and give them love and the best lives possible until death. Please adopt and save a life!
That I can agree with, even though unfortunately giving away a pet to either rescue or someone else isn't always an option, sometimes its a necessity. But I definitely agree to adopt and not shop!
Amen...Period. End of story
At this stage of my life [pushing 50] my current dog and cat will be my last puppy and kitten. When they pass I will take in senior animals only.
jboogs80 I totally agree.....90% anyway. I do hate when people abandon their pets, but at the same time, I would MUCH rather have them do that then keep them, but totally ignore them and/or abuse them because they find them inconvenient or annoying. Then at least they could have the opportunity to find a good and loving home. I wish you could have a way of massively administer a fine for people who give up, abandon or abuse animals. At least we are making a slight advance in our society for the last one anyway.
Perhaps that's why I like pet rodents. It's easier to ensure my pet has a great life when they only live 3 years at max.
I love how extra he is when he sings😂
That woman is just amazing. And ofcourse her pet parrot-
This is one lucky bird! He finally gets the loving home that he deserves : )

I wish more people in the world were as responsible owning a pet as you.

I come across this video from time to time and always watch it when I do. My family has a cockatiel that we found injured in our backyard. She’s our first ever (surprise) bird baby, but all worked out and she’s been with us 9 years. When I heard that this birdy was a rescue it just made me so happy.

Seeing your video made my day! I really miss that happiness. When I was around 28 my mom got a Quaker parrot for her, my dad and myself. Long story short, it was the greatest unexpected experience I will probably ever have. Unfortunately, when was 31 my mom passed...my dad & I kept loving our "Greenjeans" for another good 3 years, then sadly he got real sick and we had to..put him down. That bird dying was the most tragic thing to ever happen to me. Anyways, I wont go on & on...just could not help wanting to share because, like I said, your vid made me remember that awesome feeling of companionship. I don't usually comment this hard, but I'm 41 now and still truly miss my bird. Educating people before they commit is absolutely mandatory. We loved our parrot, but we ultimately lost him due to our neglect of being well educated about the proper diet and enforcing it throughout his lifetime, not just most of the time. Thanks for your time and keeping your bird happy and healthy.
I completely understand. I am the owner of the bird in this video btw. I also had a family pet, a quaker parrot too. We had him for 2 or 3 years only... I was about 14 yrs old when he flew away (my baby brother brought him outside by accident) and I cried and cried. I still have his feather and a diary entry detailing my brokenness about losing him. We lived in Orlando at that time and went to Miami a few years later and I heard my parrot's "chirp" while laying on the beach. Looked up and there were hundreds of Quakers parrots in a tree. It made me happy. Maybe he made it to Miami and lived many years more free with his own flock. I am 40 today and still miss him and think my teen years wouldve been so much easier had he not flown away. but that's a selfish thought. Birds should be wild and free... Also, my parents also fed him sunflower seeds only so he likely had fatty liver disease. We also didnt know better with no internet at the time and bird diet is so misunderstood ... I'm so happy things are different now, or changing. I hope you can rescue a bird if your life can fit the responsibility. Have a nice day, fellow bird lover :)
PS: I was also so young when my mom passed away - I was only 26, she was 54. I'm glad you had Greenjeans to help you through the initial years of heavy grief. The great thing about pet birds is they have potential to live way longer than most other pets like dogs and cats. I'm sure next go around you have with a pet bird you will feed it properly and it will live a very long time!
0:13 oh my, what a heartwarming sight!! I did not know parrots do that! He is just adorable!!!! Wish you another 8 years and more with him!!
