I was extremely surprised by the news at the end of Feather's passing. I thought this was the beginning of a lifelong relationship for them, given the long lifespan of cockatoos. They had such a beautiful bond.😔💔
Not only did you give Feather a proper life before she ‘flew the coop’, you taught Sofia how to be a loving human to animals. She may only recollect Feather from photos and stories when she herself is an adult, but the love, compassion, joy, empathy, and trust that they shared will positively guide her decisions and actions for the rest of her days. Well done, Mum and Dad❣️❣️
Flew the coop, means to have escaped. Wish people would learn what phrases actually mean, before ignorantly writing things out of context, such as this. Pity that only the bare minimum have a decent command of the English language, nowadays.
Feather had spent 15 years alone in a cage in that basement, with no toys, stimuli, or other birds. She was rescued by this family at age 52 and lived 3 1/2 beautiful years with them. RIP Beautiful Feather 🙏🙏🙏
I was hoping the feather would live a long long time with this little girl to take care of her after her mother could no longer do it. It makes me so upset that evil humans take the lives away from innocent animals and torture them like that because that was pure torture I can't even imagine solitary confinement for an innocent being like this so full of love. I'm with you Janice. You said exactly what I wanted to say. I was so sad at the end that she passed away. I don't know why so many humans mistreat beautiful animals. @@janice369
I wouldn't be sad. Feather left the past behind and lived in the moment. People should rehome the pets they no longer are willing or able to care for,not lock them away. Please if anyone has a pet they are neglecting, please don't leave them to wither and die. Find a home where they will be loved or find someone who can help you do that. Pets are a commitment.
Sadly being kept in a basement likely didn't help poor Feather. They are generally, dank, musty places with little to no daylight. So glad he was put in touch with this loving woman and her sweet little girl. It would seem that his last 3 years were his best 3 years. RIP gorgeous Feather.
@@GODDESS1966 My takeaway is that you have an overactive imagination. Just because YOU have a dank musty uninhabitable basement doesnt mean everyone else does. This video was so great, so heartwarming. And then BAM ... "in loving memory of Feather" ???????? It would be nice to the people who watched this video and felt so touched to be given just a tiny explation of what happened to Feather. Watching the video, I was telling myself "oh it's great, these birds live a very long time, that little girl will not suffer the pain of loosing it like it could be with dogs that don't live very long. I was imagining that little girl in the future - at 20 years, still having that wonderfull bird and then ... BAM ! Could we have a minimum information on what happened ? I hope your little girl has gone through that loss without too much pain.
Most likely some type of illness. Yes these birds are very long lived. 60-70yrs... many outlive their owners, esp if the owner was an adult at the time of acquisition. But birds, as with many "wild" species that haven't undergone decades of selective breeding by humans, are very good at hiding outward signs of serious illness. It's a survival mechanism to help avoid being targeted by predators. As a result, seriously ill birds often aren't taken to a vet until it's way too late.

Such a beautiful story & bond Feather and Sophia had! So glad that for the last 3 or so years of her life, Feather got to experience what a truely loving, caring and welcoming family is! You made us fall in love with Feather and her relationship with your daughter. And no you say that Feather has passed away?! 😢 What a lovely bird she was; and what a lovely relationship, too. 🥰🥰❤
I am so touched and impressed by your story. I’m also as ignorant as I am fascinated by parrots, only very recently aware they can join a family via rescue. If you monitor comments or any viewers wish to respond, 2 questions. First, how can a passionate, dedicated animal lover and lifelong adopter like myself, but one who knows nothing about parrots, learn “enough” to seriously consider and qualify for welcoming a bird in need of new “family.” My children are long out of my home…Second, my only interaction with a bird/Cockatoo just like Feather, was at a resort where a man walked around the property introducing his bird to guests. It took me forever to get the confidence to allow the bird to walk up my arm and it spent about 20 minutes “playing” remarkably gently with my neck. I was astonished at its delicate touch especially given my eyes and lips were mere inches . It was until sometime after the visit that I realized the bird had “eaten?” 3 or 4 of the 5 or 6 rhinestones spaced inches apart on my navy bathing-suit’s collar. That only upped my surprise at its finesse and, of course, worry for its belly. Being so close to such an impressive animal I had even more respect for its powerful beak and claws, which left me wondering then and now in the case of your daughter, how can you “know” such a bird is going to be gentle? I have dogs and one is an angel but, still, he’s 85 pounds with rather big teeth. He’s very tolerant with children but I never forget he s a dog as well as my baby so I watch like a hawk though I admit I did not watch that carefully with my own children because he was their “brother” as they grew up together. I’m sooooo sincerely interested in learning and if I can’t adopt eventually for some reason, I’ll support rescue efforts. It’s especially heartening to learn of people welcoming these abandoned birds into their families. I am already grateful just knowing good folks and good birds are finding and loving each other later in life. curious in case I don’t ever master enough to adopt…how could you know Feather, with her powerful beak and claws, would not harm your daughter?
It must have been devastating for Sophia to lose Feather. What an amazing bond! If Feather had come to them at a young age, it could have been a bond for life. But at least Feather got a really great final 3 years...
