You left at the very most important thing of how you stretched out the wires to remove the first big plastic neck that’s hanging down to expose everything
hi thanks for getting back to me still watching your videos. after taking the steering column apart i found the lock pin spring broken and wedged between the switch rack making it hard to turn. my question is what is the purpose of the lock pin spring and do i need to reinstall the new one that came with the swtch rack or can i just leave it out.. thank you, hope to hear back soon....
I doubt but hope youll see this and respond but that little rack and gear for the ignition. Is that the same on the non tilt wheel trucks i think mines broken but i dont want to pull it apart and be looking for the wrong thing
My column is giving me trouble. I recently replaced my steering column. It cranked by key no probem before. But new column will not crank it up for sum reason. The key and column seems to work in all positions but when I turnkey and the way forward it dosent crank the starter. So I have hooked a switch push button to crank my car when key is forward. I would really love to crank my car by key again because the push button stuff gets annoying. Any ideas on any problems that might ve causing this? Thanks alot john
Mr. John, when I go to slide the mid section off the steering shaft I don't have enough wire slack to get it to hang out of the way like your is. My tilt is loose so I got to go deep to tighten it.
In your video @ 5:55 that part that moves when you turn that key what is that called? The problem when I turn the key to turn on the truck, the key doesn't retract back to its normal position like its suppose to. I have to manually move it back so it won't keep trying to start after its started.
Jose the return spring is built into the ignition switch mounted on the top center of the column shaft under the dash. The spring must be broken or the switch is wore out and hanging up. Most likely have to replace that switch to get the key to return to the run position after starting. That switch is also adjustable. The holes for the screws that hold the switch to the column are slotted so you can adjust the position of it.
Great videos. Very easy to follow. Really appreciate it. But the link for the 4th video seems to be for another series because it starts after you've already removed the ignition cylinder, which is where video 3 left off. Is your 4th video possibly under a different title that I could find? Thanks again for your help.

I believe you can leave it out. It will just not lock the steering wheel into position when the key is turned off.

I would think they would be the same so go for it
This has been a big help. Thanks for the upload.
This guy helped me out. Love the self criticism. Where did the dude go?

On the 86 and lower square bodies
Where the hells column vid 4?

Jason I imagine you will have to go under the dash then and unplug that harness to get the slack you need. I just got lucky I guess.
Thanks for the quick reply
What would cause me to have to lift up on the steering wheel in order to start the truck? Nuetral safety switch?
Sorry been busy. If your column is loose my guess is pulling up on the wheel takes the slack out of the mechanisms controlling the ignition switch.
I got it. Had to take the bracket under the dash loose and unplug the steering column harness. Thanks for the help.

??????????? Everything I need to know appears to be contained in the non-existent fourth video.

Yikes. I'll take a look at a column I have in the garage today and try to help you out.
