Very good info. I would also like to note that there should be a small clip that goes on the steering shaft after the bolt for the steering wheel. This is basically a safety measure to ensure that if the bolt ever comes loose, the steering wheel can not come completly off and cause you to lose control of your steering.
Oh yes , now I remember, I had to replace a couple of these back in the 80's after my Monte Carlo was stolen and on my neighbors El camino , Thanks for the refresher , iv'e got to replace a key on an 89 gmc sierrea
I'm going to be replacing mine, on my 1982 Chevy citation along with the ignition switch next week and I needed a refresh course myself, been 30 years since I've done this. 👍
I like the woman talking, actually, it gives the vid character and context. And it's rad she has the knowledge she does!! Great vid, super helpful, thanks!
Ha, I see everyone complaining about a woman talking. I watched the entire thing on mute and got what I needed. Then I read the comments, funny. His video is so good you don't need the sound.
By far the best video. Thanks for having a female to point out stuff females might focus on. I too ended up taking it apart again. I saw a comment describing her as "thinks she's a mechanic..." while so many subtleties were explained in your dialogue. That being said, it still takes someone with experience to be able to use only this video. Don't quit your day job because the camera work could have been more detailed. Every time you dropped the camera or pointed it on the face to show conversation and took the action out of the frame, we had a big debate about stuff that happened in that moment. Great knowing where the stuff goes but all we see are fingers. In more than one place we would have been better with the camera on your chest. And one minute the blinker was stuck in one spot and the picture cut to it clicking. The adjustment, no matter how tedious and time consuming would have been nice to see. I can't just turn on and off my phone and its fixed. That blinker should have been included. I don't know exactly how the piece went in because I couldn't see from the angle next to you, then covered by fingers and finally cut out of the video totally. Still, by far far far the best video I have seen on this ignition replacement. Thanks.
of the several hundred videos on youtube with bad info, blocked cam shots or guys showing how not to do it, this is the best video out there. Thanks for posting, but I do have a question. I didn't see you out the spring and little pin for the horn back in. Does she not have a horn?
I have this problem on mine as in when I stick it in the key on the ignition switch it doesn’t make the noise they supposed to make or whenever you twist the key forward do you think that might be the problem why my truck don’t turn on I have checked my alternator my wires for my computer my battery and everything has power Like it supposed to so my last thing that I think it is might be the ignition switch because I get power to my lights as in headlights and my sunroof
I know this is a chevy, I own three; but lost my keys for my 87 ford. I have just popped the ears off getting ready to drill when I looked at the new lock and thought " why not try the new keys." I inserted key and sob it worked, but changed lock because it looked like crap. So try the new keys first, might work. If does go get dups cut and take the lock back.
I have a 1989 Chevrolet 1 ton. It has a new battery new starter new alternator but when I turn the key it doesn't crank I cannot figure out what it is.
This is actually called the ignition lock cylinder not the ignition switch. The ignition switch is an electrical module that tells the starter and your accessories to turn on. It could be that also. My 93 S10 shut off in the middle of traffic and I think the problem is both of those.
@@_xcursion_5392 when I turn the key to the on position the dash lights and all the power comes on but when I turn it to crank it doesn't crank doesn't even try. It has a new battery and new starter. the parts store told me it could be a starter relay problem.
When my truck died on me the radio was still playing but the key wouldn’t turn to the run position. And my starter, alternator, battery and all relays are new so. I’m replacing this tomorrow I’ll let you know the results
I replaced lock switch and power switch on a 1985 S10 Truck and it still want start with key the guy I bought it from had a wire running from starter and battery and then inside to start.. and one with help?
hey great video can you help me with my 88 s10 I got it as a running parts truck but it doesn't have any keys and someone has already busted it up and pulled the wires out so I don't know what goes where how can I hotwire it to move it around my yard
QuadracerDays get a diagram and run your wires to where they need to go. It is a very simple ignition system. If you can’t get a diagram then message me and I can possibly send you one
What I watched video to find out the color code not watch a bunch of screwing and jabbering. Would have been to simple to just say green wire red wire blue black does whatever.
I guess they are all the same on 80s and 90s GM cars and trucks, I went through the Chilton manual book before looking at some of the videos and they all the same
Steering column looks broken around the ignition switch, also it would have been a better video if that woman had stopped talking.. very informative anyway thanks
Midiman Rodriguez Hey ola te tengo una pregunta, Probablemente me puedas dar informacion, el para meter los cambios la controladora o sea la ke muebe los cambios esta atascada no kiere moverse ya removi el steering wheel and then after right there I don't know what I have to do it can you please give me a little help to find out if you mine somebody thank you thank you so much you can contact me 702-807 4381
Dont need to watch you do a bunch of screwing. Show the wiring system to the switch. What wires gore to the switch so l can figure out how to eliminate the colume switch.
Not a good job at all! This guy creates more work for himself every step of the way and then half asses it the whole time! It's not as difficult as he makes it out to be... SMH
had a locksmith come by this morning to put a new lock cylinder in a 92 checy c1500.. said he didnt have the special tools needed. thanks for the vid

This video is great and very informative. Also nice to see you’re in Denver! Thanks for sharing!

I like the woman talking, actually, it gives the vid character and context. And it's rad she has the knowledge she does!! Great vid, super helpful, thanks!
Very helpful video. It helped me do it on an older gm car. Almost the same except the release tab was different. Thanks for the information.
Thanks for posting this video! Very helpful!
Ha, I see everyone complaining about a woman talking. I watched the entire thing on mute and got what I needed. Then I read the comments, funny. His video is so good you don't need the sound.

Check your fuses and make sure nothing is draining your battery.
I have 88 Chevy 1500 and the pushrod keeps popping out no compression when I turn key ?
I know this is an older video. How do you change out the high and low dimmer switch tied to the turn signal switch
I just redid that followed your steps but now my headlights are on high beam how do I get them back to low beam
Figure it out?
My truck has a metal rod on that came disconnected from the white plastic piece inside the wheel and I'm not sure where it connects to
Exelent vídeo that truck is like mine i had thesame problem thanks a lot
Manuel Flores What was yours doing that you have to change it bro

In my 1992 sonoma SLE there is a plastic piece that fell out and have no idea how it goes back together
I think is for the high beam
Nice video would have been better without that woman talking outside of the truck but none the less solid video man.
I had someone steel and break my ignition switch on my S10 2000 pickup how do you change that
Can u put a steering wheel back on wo a compress tool
Yeah but its awkward.
First replacing a cylinder key switch would have been the best video but that woman would not stop talking
Muy buen video ! Aun asi no puedo hacer que el la llave encienda mi troca ! Por alguna razon
I'm guessing that would be the same way on my 1993 Burban.
I guess they are all the same on 80s and 90s GM cars and trucks, I went through the Chilton manual book before looking at some of the videos and they all the same
"1000 diffent keys" there's actually only like 32 different cuts for the older chevys.
perhaps unplug the battery.
Steering column looks broken around the ignition switch, also it would have been a better video if that woman had stopped talking.. very informative anyway thanks
Talk about blue balls, video got trimmed a little short at the end 🤪
