It's like this EVERY time. Extremely misbehaving kids have poor parents with poor parenting skills. The parents don't have to be nasty either; they can be sweet, but they can still have poor parenting skills.
My brother and SIL is like this with my nephew. They're lovely people, but if he starts tantruming because he wants something, they give in and give it to him. Now he is past the toddler stage, but still tantrums nonstop. It's a nightmare to go out with them, because if he doesn't get his way he just screams and cries at the top of his voice. Purely because they never stuck with telling him "no". He is so used to getting what he wants, he can't handle it when he suddenly doesn't get what he wants. It's honestly sad watching them struggle with him.

What was scary when the dad pushed the child was that he froze on the ground, expecting more. Yes, intervention was needed, but that demonstrated that the child expected more violence. And the fact Dad lied? He's not being truthful about how we he treats the kids behind mom's back, which is very scary.
He could have gently but firmly lifted him off of his sister and talked to him about that not being proper behavior. Lots of parents lift, not shove.

Frank minyon definitely fits into that category. He was basically bullying his seven-year-old son during homework time and not giving him any love or encouragement.
I think the worst thing about that father's behavior toward his son is when the son was crying because he was not getting any love or encouragement from his own father the father was expecting him not to show emotion.
That man was probably one of those "macho, old school men" who thought that boys and men should be tough and basically bottle up their emotions.

I would be divorced in 2 seconds if my partner ever treated my kids like that. He would be out of my house so fast.
