  • Eating Whatever I Catch while fishing and biking the BEACH! We head out to go saltwater fishing from the surf in North Florida with a mission - eat whatever I catch. What kind of fish would be around the surf and in the saltwater like this during this time of the year?? We attempt to catch clean and cook whatever we hook into.. I did not expect for this to happen..

Florida has a lot of bowfin that are pretty tasty but there are also american shad running the st john's river if you wanna try those! They are supposed to be called the king of fish and used to be eaten a lot back in the day. Bowfin are good eating too but you need to cook them right after you dispatch and clean them. They last forever out of the water at least. Gar is good eating too and we got some nice ones! If all else fails pinfish and croakers are good eating, you can catch em with small hooks and tiny pieces of peeled shrimp. I gut em, scale em, and fry em up whole after cutting some slits in the meat for the seasoning. Just like you do small bluegill.

Love the video, the reason it tasted bad was, you need to fillet out the shark right away, they pee through their skin! The pee has no where to go after they are dead, it gets trapped in the meat, that’s why it tasted bitter!

Apart from filleting it right away you also need to wash it properly either with vinegar or vodka. Let it soak for a little bit then put some lime or lemon on it for like two minutes then you season and then you cook it trust me you will wanna eat it again 😅

Hey Firststate, loved the video! I think you should try the shark again! But next time, you’ll want to clean your shark almost immediately. Sharks urinate through their skin and gills, so after they die their urinary functions break down and they begin to release ammonia. I believe that begins around 45 minutes after death but the sooner you clean it the better. I had a similar experience on my first try but another fisherman I met told me to try cleaning it sooner and that made a big difference in my opinion. I especially like shark pan fried with cajun seasoning and lemon. Hope you give it another go!

Forgot to add, sharks arent sought after for consumption due to their mercury rates, however the vast majority of the mercury resides in the lower meat around the belly, you can normally see the difference in the meat as well I believe. Its not lethal, but not recommended in excess

Depends how long you left the shark before prepping it, it can affect the taste- it's generally a good idea to clean them out ASAP after catching them as they can release ammonia through their meat if left too long- that could be the odd taste you commented on at the end there. Tight lines as ever mate, keep up the good work.

Best way to fry fish is just plain corn starch and a squeeze of lemon at the end. The corn starch gets your fish crispier than anything else and the squeeze of lemon removes all fishy that might be left. Keep it simple 🌽 🍋 🐟

Sounds weird . But fillet decently quickly after caught , put meat fillets in a bowl add whole milk to bowl , with Tony’s (seasoning) , garlic salt and some Lemon juice .. let it soak in that for atleast 4 hours , but better over night . Then pat dry fillets and re season with whatever you like (garlic salt , Tony’s , and lemon pepper ) little pieces of butter , throw thick fillets on a bbq pit … taste GREAT , especially smaller black tips

when the reel ended up in the sand i cried you can hear it grinding like 2 seconds after. other than that good video love the content :)
Also I would recommend getting longer sections of PVC from the hardware store (cut them in like 4.5 ft sections) and cut one end at an angle, you can put them into the sand easier by just putting your mouth on the other end and sucking the air in from the inside of the sand spike. There's some goo UA-cam videos about it online, the metal ones are good but i would use them more for rocky beaches etc. The longer pvc ones might be harder to carry on the bike but if youre taking the truck it would be perfect
