    Great information
    Much appreciated.
    Any thoughts on using electricians gloves when working on diy stuff?

      I would always make sure the power is off when making installations and repairs and it won't matter if you wear gloves or not.

    I am working a job with just a little electrical redo and I found what I call split bolts or split lugs that I’ve seen used for grounding in the place of wire nuts with about a half a roll each of electrical tape 🤔😶. Pretty sure that’s what an idiots work looks like. You are WAY good my friend.

    Is there any issue if the bare copper ground wires touch each other within the box? Is this only a concern with the black hot wire?

      @brettleybuilt  4 місяці тому +1

      No issues with the copper wires touching each other. They should be wire nutted together anyway. The black and white wires are current carrying wires which is why they have coating and can't touch anything they aren't supposed to.

    So glad I have found your channel. The knowledge you are passing on is great. Recently purchased a home that has a small 20x20 out building that i plan on making my shop. it only has a direct burry line right now that is on a 20amp breaker. I m going to put a 60 amp circut out there and had a few questions i was hoping you could help answer. when i go to bury wire for 60amp how do i know what wire to get and can i get 2 30 amp breakers to make it work? I should say, 60 amp i think will be enough because it will be just lights, outlets to power saws and so on but dont intend to have multiple saws on at once though. Again appreciate your videos a ton, love your teaching style, the way you tie everything back to pictures really helps me out. i was nervous to start this project, kinda still am but feel much more confident now. thanks Tom

      For the wire, 6AWG is used for 60 amp circuits. I would upgrade to 4AWG for your application just because of the length of wire you may have to use from you home service entry panel to your garage. Definitely install a sub panel in your garage. Use underground service entry wire to go from you home service entry panel to your sub panel. The sub panel will allow you use the different sized breakers to power lights, outlets, or larger devices is you need to install a larger breaker for something.

      I would recommend going to an electrical supply store for your materials and have them help you get the exact materials you need.

    So the other day my wife turned the overhead lights on in the kitchen and we could hear sizzling and turned it off. When I opened the box up the wires for that switch apparently stucked into the switch, never seen that kind before. So off to Lowe's. And then I got looking at the wires they were all black except one wire had white tape on it. So the first time I turned on the power the switch was in the off position but on so I moved wires around and it worked fine

      Electricians will put different colors of tape on wires to denote that they are being used for a different purpose than the color of the wire jacket. That is the kind of garbage I wish they would stop.

      @@brettleybuilt i had never seen a switch that the wires plugged in and of course one fell out.

    What did you think of the light that had three different light sections on it? I was thinking of getting some of them for my garage but was afraid they would not put out all that much light from a 10 ft height.

    • @brettleybuilt

      They are plenty bright. I was going to put the long led light fixtures in, but I am going to stock with the three light light fixtures.
