I was privileged to work with the guy. I will never forget looking out from the stage at Earls Court in 1978 to see the stage lights reflecting off the first 10 rows of the audience with their eyes and mouths wide open, totally in awe. And that was just the first song, Warzawa. Stunning stage presence. Genius and a sadly missed friend.
Nice! You are so fortunate. He was not only a musical genius, but also a perfect gentleman, and very funny!
Just a normal but not a normal bloke. Approachable, with a good sense of humor. You could just imagine going with David to a local pub and having a pint or two and chewing over music. In fact, a devoted fan parked outside his apartment block, thinking that he might get a view of David. This guy was an ardent fan and had followed David internationally to his concerts. When David found out he went downstairs, knocked on the car window, invited the guy back to his flat, where they danced to tracks on his new album while the guy gave David feedback about what he thought. The guy stated it was simply incredible. This is how David was. He was talented, but he was totally human and generous. He had a lot of issues in his initial married life, but in the end it all turned out ok. His musical talent was astonishing. I remember him in his Ziggy Stardust days way back in the 70's. That was a magical time. It is just a great pity he could not carry the Spiders with him. Mick Ronson too went out with liver cancer, same as David. I miss David. We will probably never see his like again. But look what he left us. Never to be forgotten. The best.
Daivd is my life long idol. Thanks for sharing this to keep me close. Starman my alltime favourite.
My bad - David my hero.
yeah. sure. :/
the way he sort of does an impression of his younger self when he sings Ziggy Stardust is mindblowing. His older voice is so rich and deep but he could thin it out and de-age it so easily
Thanks to Moby for calling in and requesting a fantastic version of Sound And Vision
I come back to this vid sometimes and realize over again how powerful this guy was, full on magic
Yea bowie was the real deal outstanding
DAVID IS/WAS SIMPLY THE BEST
😮@@marlenesullivan3113
you can see how happy he was when 5:15 was requested, a song he told numerous times on stage he loved playing
You can tell he just enjoys interacting and talking with people. He has such a positive spirit. It's a shame he had to struggle with so much emotional turmoil it is personal life. I just learned that the song "Ashes to Ashes" off the "Scary Monsters" album was about him and his struggle with drug addiction. Maybe that's what made him such a great artist--not the drugs but having to struggle and fight to stay saying everyday. You can tell from those phone requests that he's very down to earth, personable, sensitive, and has a great sense of humor.
This is the irony of a very young listener asking for Ashes to Ashes, and Bowie saying, "OK Georgie." What an incredibly kind guy, who is clearly shocked at the kid's choice but also respectful of his favorite song, that appeals to him on his level. His reaction, his patience and his creativity all show what an incredible person he was. RIP>
I absolutely love how David had the ability to make each song sound different/new again..
What a loss to the world 💘🕊️
Inolvidable. Te querremos siempre.

I wish I’d had seen him live..:)
Lucky 🍀 you!!
At 1:01:36 Bowie makes this wonderful, understated, acknowledgement of the aging process ... memory isn't quite what it used to be; eyes aren't quite what they used to be. And he actually invited this revealing bit. Aside from being an extraordinary artist, Bowie was also a wise and gracious man. He is deeply missed ...
I remember seeing this show with my wife from our wedding bed. Afterwards, we had our own love by request. My Lord, 21 years have passed!
David Bowie made my life worth living when I was a sad mixed-up kid. I idolized the man! And he quickly became my favorite artist of all time! Had the great pleasure of seeing him 4 times in concert. He is sadly missed.
love this performance. he looks like he is just enjoying himself so much and that makes it extra special.
What an amazing performer, such a legacy he’s given us and sorely missed!
Such a good looking, polite, charming, talented man he was. I miss him daily and I will miss him the rest of my life.
I'm with you on that one everyday
Absolutely
Absolutely 😅😅🎉🎉❤
Despite his obvious greatness, Bowie had always been surrounded by the best musicians
The way planets gravitate toward their sun.
why 'despite'.....solid reasoning maybe
Who would turn down an invite from Bowie to go on the road for a tour?
I really love how Bowie treats each caller with respect and humor. And he's very honest about being a father, and answering the Mark McEwen's questions about the creative process. (songwriting). The drummer here is fabulous! Just right for each song. I really like the whole band. This performance - the entire thing - is something I return to regularly.
That's Sterling Campbell on drums and the amazing Reeves Gabriels leading the band on guitar. Sterling was with Soul Asylum for a while back in the 90's and Reeves came in for the first Tin Machine record, which is one of my favorite albums of all-time.
The man is a legend, one of a kind ❤
The guy was incredibly hypnotic to watch live .. as a life long Bowie fan I feel privileged to have seen him live twice .Both highlights of my life .Iv just introduced my 2 year old grandson to Bowie. He now sings starman and tells me .Nanna ..Bowie ... starman .🥰
2021 and Im still excited to watch David Bowie´s performance.

I’m glad Uncle Phil was there to mention how stoned he was on Soul Train

The most beautiful eyes and smile I've ever seen.
So agree!
I love the way he mimics his 1970's voice on Starman and Ziggy Stardust, that higher thinner pitch, and broad South London A's he had then, perfectly reproduced. Cool!
Same!! Love it
Holy fuck! That transition from slow darkness to fucking pure energy in Let's Dance was brilliant!

thank you !
Yes, but my favorite is Hero ( B. Ino in Berlin with David) Berlin Walls never exsist enymore ..we got it
One of a best time of my life 77/78/79/80th We went to David Bowie shows everywhere with my friend Dominique as She was so crazy of Him. ❤ Me too with another dimension.
I love his voice & all🔥
David is so romantic and a real gentleman Thank you for your Love•
Oh ! 😢 RIP🎇 🌠🌹 miss you)💞
Only a legend like Bowie can play a blistering set like this and could still have played another three brilliant sets with completely different songs.
Hard to go wrong with Slick and Garson on your team...
I wish I was fortunate enough to see him live
I would have requested The Laughing Gnome, just to scare him. Then I would have let him off the hook and asked for The Man Who Sold The World.
His was the last concert I saw in Toronto on both nights. He was amazing, a treasure. Miss him but his incredible work lasts forever until the end of time.
George picked a great song. Best version of Ashes to Ashes I have heard. Great solos.
Oh man what a legend
This version of Heroes is simply everything great about rock and roll, defined. It doesn't get any better than this.
Fantastic , Wonderful Mr. David Bowie ! I love your songs !
I worked on this show. I had installed and operated some small robotic cameras hidden on stage. It was a great thrill.
awesome! did you have any opportunity to speak with Bowie or the band?
@@haskna I did not have a conversation with him. I was on stage during a sound check, standing 15' behind him. You can't help but sing along to his music. He stopped singing, turned his head in my direction, I had an "oh shit moment", and then he continued. I wouldn't trade that mistake for anything. (I was singing on stage with David Bowie!!). ha ha... That really happened.
Ron Travisano, I'll bet. Wish I had been there. Good for you. I would have loved to have the opportunity to make Bowie a bit (well not mad), but have the look in his eyes to tell you the be quiet! Very cool. Bowie is one if not my fav musician ever. If not the most fav. Just to have him nail you with his eyes would have blown me away.I would have fell over. Good for you. Love that story. Thanks for sharing.
@@nickavisa that WAS an awesome moment. Good for you.
That's amazing. I saw Bowie at the Freddie tribute gig in 1992 and also with Tin Machine. He was magical and such a funny guy.
I still remember my 20-year-me watching this show with my mum in my room. There was a girl who called and we shared the same name and were from the same country... she even said she had loved him since Labyrinth, just like me! I miss David so much!!!
My son came to see me tonight. We are on here watching Bowie. He has never seen this before! This is great!
Well I watched this originally when it came out, amazing, I'm in tears here, he was .....stood alone......thank you dear GOD for letting me live on this earth the same time as this great man did.....amen....
Fondest memories when ziggy stardust was on midnite special singing major Tom my dad just got home working 2cd shift ,took one look at the tv and asked “what the hell is that” 😂
L♡VE DAVID-WHY DO WE LOOSE
ALL THE GREATEST SINGERS?🚶♂️🎶
THIS VIDEO IS PRICELESS. THX
Thanks for Mr.David Bowie 🎵🎶👍🏻🙏🙏🙏♾️😉😊🎵🎶
I love so David when he laught
It's amazing how absolutely gracious David Bowie is. He is so kind to his audience, and to the host. He was especially kind and clever with the people who called in to make requests. Such a great personality. I have no idea what he was like behind the stage or in the studio. But I think in the long run, he was an artist who was so dedicated to his work. So passionate about his work. He appears to be one of those people who was not going to let anything stop him from creating and performing no matter what. What a spirit!
"We can be safer just for 1 day" David Bowie.
I miss him....
Such a relaxed performance that night. He was so gentle and kind soul ♥
What a wonderful variation on Let's Dance!! The slow and tender opening was a beautiful and unexpected treat!!
Rock music was made for David Bowie. Heathen is one of my favourite Bowie albums , and I have them all . This is a great concert.
Oh, yeah. Heathen is also one of my favorites, too. Thank you for the call out. What a performance.
My heart still grieves 4 and a half months later. His beautiful voice and persona is silenced, his memories are still here thank God.
4 years later, same

My heart grieves today, and it's been four years. At the same time, I am grateful I have been living while David was making his fantastic music.
Watching in 2021, 5 years gone: wishing it weren't so
Happy Birthday David, The Prettiest Star
Great show, Bowie was amazing his music will live on forever.
54:37 what a humble soul.. missing more in 2020 rest in peace
7/21/21 Me as well.
Live by Request 2002 is warmly Feeling every time Me or we would seeing😊😉♾️🙏🙏🙏👍🏻🎶🎵
1:04:10 I just noticed the drummer quietly dying in the background as David turns down a marriage proposal lol.
That girl is my hero lol, the actual guts to semi propose to David live on the phone haha. Kudos to her. I hope she found someone as wonderful as him.
I got chills so many times watching this! Like the girl from Capistrano, I too was blessed to see him in concert as Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders, Santa Monica Civic '72, and again as the Thin White Duke. He was amazing then and he's amazing here as well. He gave each song its due, didn't rush through anything, just played and sang them as they were meant to be sung.
Now you and Freddie will be together making music up in heaven looking down on all of us! Deeply loved and missed forever!
What a wonderful night. I hope little George got his a return call.
I think so.
love so much DAVID BOWIE
this whole thing is so cute
Slip Away Lyrics:
Oogie waits for just another day
Drags his bones
To see the Yankees play
Bones Boy talks and flickers gray
Oh, they slip away
Once a time
They nearly might have been
Bones and Oogie on a silver screen
No one knew what they could do
Except for me and you
They slip away
They slip away
Don't forget
To keep your head warm
Twinkle twinkle Uncle Floyd
Watching all the world
And war torn
How I wonder where you are
Oo-o
Sailing over
Coney Island
Twinkle twinkle Uncle Floyd
We were dumb
But you were fun, boy
How I wonder where you are
Oo-o
Oogie knew there's never ever time
Some of us will always stay behind
Down in space it's always 1982
The joke we always knew
Oo-oo
What'sa matter with you
C'mon, let's go
Slip away
Oo-o
Don't forget
To keep your head warm
Twinkle twinkle Uncle Floyd
Watching all the world
And war torn
How I wonder where you are
Oo-o
Sailing over
Coney Island
Twinkle twinkle Uncle Floyd
We were dumb
But you were fun, boy
How I wonder where you are
Oo-o
Sailing"
What a masterpiece.
God how I miss you David! You are one of a kind, as only the best were. How I wonder where you are, Oo-o. :(
It's fun seeing a young audience enjoying the performance of this legend.
Can't stop watching this month after month....!!!
You know whats crazy mark mcewan was my highschool drama substitute teacher, hes reason why im watching this video. I had the honor to have many thorough talks with him about his conversations with bowie, george harrison, garth brooks, anyone you can think of. Absolute legend and amazing person
I will always love you David thank you for everything rest in peace my Starman ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨♥️
Love "Slip Away" from the Heathens LP. Love all of Bowie. He just kept us all entertained for years and years. What a loss. RIP David. I love you.
David always did choose truly great musicians as his backing band; but this band must be something else to have such a repertoire when the caller could choose any bloody track Mr Bowie ever recorded. Great stuff.
Fantastic drummer
Why did Mark play bass on Ashes to ashes? Sure Gail could have handled it
Absolutely 👍👍
Disagree except for creative Mike Garson. They're all just too robotic, session player types.
@@nija1976 You know not of what you speak. First of all, do you think for even a nano second that David would settle for "robotic session player types"? You don't know who any of them are, outside of Garson. The guitar stage right was Earl Slick. He was the one who played on Station to Station on both the album and song, and the one who came up with that amazing guitar solo on the song S2S. The guitarist in the middle was Mark Plati. He he's a multi instrumentalist, producer and was the band leader. He worked with David from 1997 to 2002. The guitarist on stage left is Gerry Leonard. He worked with David from 2000 to 2004 and then again on The Next Day, as did Earl Slick. The bassist was Gail Ann Dorsey. She worked with David from '95 to 2004, and then on The Next Day. The drummer was Sterling Campbell and he worked with David from '99 to '04 and then on The Next Day. Ever heard the saying, "Better to keep one's mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"? Keep your mouth shut when you don't know WTF you're talking about.
Being a pretty straight laced guy from the 50's, Bowie seemed a little out there. In the early 70's, my girlfriend loved Bowie. Had to have tickets for the concert in San Diego in the mid 70's. Great show. I became a huge fan.
1:25:48 rip to the fallen soldiers that will never get the context of *meme school*
You can’t tell me he was saying mime school.
the funny thing is that mime and meme come from the same etimology wich is mimema (imitated thing)
@@greasyboy737 Yes he was.
Bowie was the first major-label artist to have his music available for download. He also had his own ISP, BowieNet, no joke.
@@joelglanton6531 No shit? Wow very good info to know. Thx for the that.
Oh Star man, how we miss you!
The rock and roll chameleon never disappoints . Each song done to perfection like a concert on to itself
I remember requesting the same song as Moby, except I didn't get on the air. They took Moby's call instead. I was waiting in the cue. It's seems this was yesterday when I watched this TV special.
Il es toujours présent dans mes pensées. Je l'adoration bien ses composition était vraiment narurel et d'un charme irrésistible pour le grand respect envers la FEMME . ❤
I just love it when Moby calls in. And the 5 yr old caller "George". Very sweet stuff.
💖💖💖Bowie never die, because he live in our hearts!!!!
So many songs. This man was legendary. And being able to perform them all with such skill, and always a little different. It's never exactly like the recording, that's what I love the most about Bowie.
Yo también vuelvo a este video de vez en cuando ..
Me sorprende que nunca me canse de admirarle ..
Me hipnotiza tanto! I
Gracias, infinitas graciassss
What a charming and kind man♥️
Such a gracious being
David Bowie was a brilliant artist who managed to leave an indelible legacy for everyone who is still here on this big blue marble to continue to enjoy well after he boarded his spaceship to a new destination
Amo la sua musica...il suo sorriso...la sua disponibilità.....grande show...grande Bowie...love forever
20 yrs ago...so happy and healthy. brilliant performer. still missed.
A exceptional human being and artist. So glad i was alive for his time with us. He could be it all at such a high level. I wish there was a complete recording of his performance as the Elephant Man. This made me smile and cry. I miss this Starman so.
The music is great and the added jokes Bowie pulls off in between just by his talking to the people on the phone is such an added bonus!
Great demonstration of humanity.
Excellent support band, especially the rhythm section.
A shame they kicked into Ashes to Ashes before David could have a conversation with 5-year old George.
I wonder if he ever got to call George back?
Thank you for sharing.
I always smile while watching this concert. it is so warm and Bowie is so cute))
Rip David 🙏 a legend now and forever 🙏
Makes me feel better that Bowie has lyrics on stage for songs that he wrote. He was something....

I can’t believe this was the 90’s!! I’m still mourning his tripping the mortal coil. Cheers to you Star Man

Ademas de gran musico , gran dote de bailarin !! Capooo
"5:15 The Angels Have Gone" is such a great underrated song
Godamm! How did he leave us? RIP it up David Jones.
We die , any moment on god giving day. Peace love any day no war we die
Remember watching this when it came out. Bowie has such iconic songs that will last forever. Heathen had some really good songs but by this time Bowie didn't get much airtime anymore. Have to admit selfishly I missed his other worldly characters of the 70s and the more simpler acoustic songs even though his music remained top notch his whole career.
You’ll always be loved and remembered David.
😮mon bé bé tu nous manque
You Are Still The Man David Bowie
Awww I wish I had been there or rung in, Love him so much ... RIP David
Me too. :((((
David Bowie: Um dos mais geniais artistas da história (ator, compositor, cantor, performer, pintor...). Bowie é um Gigante. E que apresentação maravilhosa de Bowie e sua banda. E Bowie ainda esbanja simpatia. Bowie faz muita falta.
David Bowie: One of the most brilliant artists in history (actor, composer, singer, performer, painter...). Bowie is a Giant. And what a wonderful performance by Bowie and his band. And Bowie still oozes sympathy. Bowie is sorely missed.
DEFINITLY WHAT I WANT TO SEE ON TV.
