- Hello Friends,
Welcome Back... In this video, I have made UPS for Router. This UPS will work up to 9 Hrs continuously. No worry about the power cut. Every day I am using it. I am very happy with this UPS. I am using it for Online classes, Work From Home, Ect... Follow the instructions and make it simple.
Note: (Please Be Safe)
* Please be careful with 18650 Batteries. It May Blast/Fire/Harm You.
* Solder the batteries after watching this video fully.
* Ensure you are soldering correctly and don't overheat the batteries while soldering.
* I Don't Have Spot welding so I soldered.
This is so stupid, the batteries have voltage of 12.6v when full charged , you have only 12v Input to charge and above that you used a diode which has a voltage drop maybe 1v so you ended using like 60% of the batteries Capacity, till here all good you might get away with it but calling it a ups without even a relay to switch betwee battery and city line is just ridiculous..
😅
The BMS he used is fine for 12v. It would work fine. However his design doesn’t have automatic switchover when the power goes out, you have to do it manually which sucks
Sir Mara BMS 11.5 se oupar nai charger krta Kya problem ho Sakti hai
I agree with you. Without a switching relay, this device should not be called a UPS.
After he adds the relay, he still need to figure out what to do with the delay caused by the capacitor inside the power adapter (charger). A few milliseconds delay with turn off and disconnect the wifi router.
@@tajwarshah6264There is no need for a relay as the batteries will instantly take over supplying current to the LM2596 ensuring no interruption. Where there is a possible issue is that the LM2596 is purely a step-down 'buck' converter and will cause a drop in output voltage when the main 12v supply goes off. It will probably still work because the router will itself be regulating the voltage down to 9v,5v and or 3.3v, otherwise a buck-boost converter would be a better choice of output module.
Why do we need a diode right after the 12V input? To prevent ad-dc adapter from being damaged by power from battery? Or when main grid is off to prevent electricity to flow to the adapter and save battery capacity? Thanks!
oneway flow for need diod
Man you have two mistakes in this project, first you used a Switch after the Boost converter and second you used a diode that will drop the charging voltage down 0.5 so you will have to change them at 13v
Yes, both are correct. But it will work properly, and it will sometimes take to charge the battery with help of BMS. Diode is only to avoid reverse current. If you have any other option to avoid reverse current, you can use it. Thanks for your comment.
No need Batteries are fully charged. Boost Module will keep the output at desired voltage.
12 volt diode 4007 is getting very hot
Remove it
This might seem like a good idea but in practice there are multiple flaws with this design, first of a BMS isn't supposed to control charging so you risk damaging either the input powersupply or the batteries but connection it straight to the batteries. The batteries will also never be able to reach full charge anyway as they're fully charged at 12.6V which is more than the 12V input not even accounting for the voltage drop across the diode. At best the battery might get charged to 50%. Finally the out put is connected to a step-down module which in all fairness does make sense for the router in the video, but the vast majority of routers are powered by 12V which this setup can't handle and the comments are full of people not realizing this (you'd need a boost converter/step-up regulator for this).
Please do not try this at home, it lacks safety and won't work for most applications there are other resources on how to do this in a much more appropriate way available online.
@@@
Sir, Can you recommend a better design ? it will be good if the circuit if do 5V backup.
@@sanjaybatra6593 use S2 BMS
part list would have made it nice to shop for what you used to build the UPS
what is the use of buck-boost converter here? Why can't there just be a battery, which is being charged by input dc connector while the dc connector still provide power to the load and when power goes off, the battery will provide the power to the load? Anyone please reply.
I used buck-boost converter because I need 9v only. Usage of BMS is to protect the battery for overvoltage and low voltage. It will charge the battery too, once the battery is full the power supply will be cut to the battery, and it will go to output directly.
Salam Sir,
I've watched your video and made same power bank accordingly to the wiring but I'm facing issue.
Router specs : 12V 1Amps
UPS made 12V but I've used XL6009 as i think that it should give constant output voltages even input fluctuates o/p remains same.
Now my issue,
When my power bank is fully discharged and when the power from adopter is again arrived my router doesn't turn on properly as its power led blinks continuously and remain like that (Not turning on my router) until I turn my router off for once and turn it back on. what could be the issue.
One more thing what is the purpose of diode on the output as 1N4007 has a voltage drop of almost 1V which is already drooping on the I/P also while charging the battery and supplying the router at the same time which leads to lower voltages 11v which I think could be issue as there are two loads one is battery that's completely drained out it needs to be charged and the other is router which also need voltages of its requirement ( but that router voltages can be maintained through Step up converter as it will give constant O/P Voltages but not current).
Could it be possible that I try same voltage higher amps adapter so that as it need initial torque when it's charging the battery and the router at the same time as my charger that comes with the router is of 12v & 1Amps it's designed accordingly to the router.
What are your thoughts on this kindly guide me through this problem thanks.
Regards,
Usama Zaib
You just remove the 1N4007 Diode and try. If the problem is continuing, use LM7812 input from XL6009 and increase the voltage more than 13v.
@@MrAKsTime That diode option I've tried already it doesn't work I'll check that lm 7812 option and one more question that you've missed is that the reason of diode on the output.
@@MrAKsTime But according to the datasheet of XL 6009 it says that it's Min input can be i think 3/5 V there should not be any issues for this module to boost those voltages as batteries are giving 12 V even when it's discharged that bms property is that at almost 6-7 V it cut off so 6-7 V it should be no issue for this module to boost those voltages as it is made for this purpose.
@@MrAKsTime The XL6009 DC-DC Buck Boost Converter Module has an input voltage range of 3V to 32V, and an output voltage range of 5V to 35V.
I've checked it through the internet.
Bro please make an ups for wifi router with multiple output ports. By the way nice explanation and editing. keep it up bro
if we don't change the plug , there will be no direct connection between the router and the main current. the batteries will give the current 24/7 , which is not a good idea
The router will run on battery 24/7 but the problem is when there is a power cut + the battery is also dry in a few min, you will not able to use the internet. It will create unwanted tension.
The main purpose of this module is to use the internet without any interruption even powercut.

Yes. If you have doubt. Watch video in youtube regarding this But i am sure.

You need a LI-ION charge controller board placed before the BMS. An economical option is a module board based on the CN3722 chip, which supports an input range between 40 and 12 volts. This way you can use a commercial 24 volt input transformer. The BMS protects the battery against internal overloads and external anomalies, but it alone is not capable of managing the battery charge.
For the step down output module, I would choose a variant with an integrated voltmeter, since it has protection against inverted voltage at both ends.

Apakah bisa bms 2 s dicharger dengan charger hp 5 volt ditambah step up menjadi 8.4 volt, caranya bagaimana?
You need 9v charger to charge this 2s 18650 BMS and or you need step-up booster module XL6009 to increase the voltage from 5v to 9v.
So the BCM Balanced 12v, must use the charge adapter lower 12,5v to charge, if higher ( ex: 13v) BCM Balanced will cut-off cause UPS doesn't work?
Hi, whata the difference between 3s 20A or 3s 10A. How does this matter on BMS
3s 10A will support up-to 10ampere current, same as 20A.
What if you just skip this module and use the battery connected to the power supply. Current will be drown from the power supply, the battery will be fully loaded. When there is the outage battery will be used. Whta is the advantage of this module? Voltage regulator can be used to produce stable 12V. My router works fine for input voltage 9-24 so it has the regulator build-in.
Se colleghi direttamente le batterie al litio ad un alimentatore senza limitazione di corrente oppure di tensione la corrente potrebbe diventare eccessiva e tale da danneggiare le batterie o addirittura farle esplodere.
agree, a cheap power bank could be used to power the router, the problem is they switch off then power consumption is too low
Please is it available 4v 18650 battery? I got 3.7v only.Thanks & Regards..
Yes, 18650 battery BMS is available for 4v. and you need to use XL6009 to step up the output voltage as per your router.
What should I do, if I want a dual output of 12v - one for router and other for optical fiber switch.
Take two wire from output but increase the battery capacity or number of batteries.
dude, that battery is not fully charged. When you put a diode, the voltage drops. Not enough to charge the batteries.
Okay, just increase the diode value from 1amp to 2A or 3A diode.

XL6009 will reduce the back-up time. I hope we can avoid using it. What do you think. What will happed if we dont use XL6009. Is it neccessary ?
Or you can use LM7812 regulator to get constant output voltage, but you need more than 12v output to use this. Or try with xl6009 first, and monitor the battery life. Then decide.
@@MrAKsTime We cannot use LM7812 as we do not have more input voltage. The Nokia adapter hardly give 12.08V.

It will charge. No need separate charger.
Do I need to add a diode in output, which diode should I need to use 4007 or 5048 and I can i use 12v 10amp power supply to charge battery will it be safe
1. For Output - what is the router ampere. If it is 1a or 1.5a, you can use 4007.
2. 10A is not required to charge the battery. 1 or 2 amps is enough.
thanks for the awesome video bro .. just 1 question on diode .. will the diode get heat up .. could u please check once? is there any alternative for diode?
No, It won't get heat.

I’m sure this was posted with the best intentions and although it might work it’s not really ideal. Few things to note:
If using a 3S battery, the battery voltage will discharge from 12.6V to about 9V. So it is not supplying the constant 12V as the factory power supply does.
Lithium ion batteries need to be charged with some sort of constant current. I’m not quite sure how this circuit achieves this.
I’d say the concept is there but lacking attention to the finer details.
it will charge the battery with constant current using the BMS
A BMS is not a charger and does not control constant current or constant voltage.
