- Today on Classics AB, I am going to show you how to quickly and easily remove & install a steering wheel on a 2003-2007 Silverado, Sierra, Suburban, Escalade, Yukon, etc. Should be about the same steps for any early 2000s GMC / Chevy Truck or SUV. This is one of those projects that almost any one should be able to accomplish with two basic tools. As with any project, even simple ones, take your time, use your brain, and everything should work out just fine for you. On this project just make sure to disconnect that battery!!

Excellent video!
Thanks buddy!!
You didn't even have to use a puller. Your my new hero. I will be pulling a 05 Colorado steering wheel tomorrow, leather is eatin up. Thanks for your help.
Good luck! Just go beast mode and it should come off after a bit, you could see my struggle for a minute lol.
Little trick for easier wheel removal.
Take the nut off 75% like he says, sit in the seat, put both feet up against floor pan, pull as hard as you can while wiggling the wheel. Pops off instantly
Again, make sure you don’t take that nut off completely otherwise you’ll be replacing teeth.
Yep, definitely keep the nut on there before you go ape on it, or your face is gonna have a bad day lol 😂
Appreciate you so much, struggling almost a hour at the LKQ parts junkyard with my dad 😂😂 we went to UA-cam and found your video 🙏🏻🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
LKQ parts yards are fun places! I'm glad that it helped out, I appreciate you watching!
Thanks man great vid! Had trouble taking off my turn signal to get replaced so now I have to take off the steering wheel 😮💨
Thank you for watching, good luck fixing your ride!
Thanks for the excellent video! I (all 130# of me) was able to do it. Mine was also stuck like yours.
Glad that it helped out!! Thanks for watching.
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER , you're welcome. I was repairing my turn signal arm (common GMC problem of high beams coming on with right turn signal; was able to repair rather than replace thanks to another helpful UA-camr), when my T20 bit fell down the column. I thought I was up a creek, but was able to fish it out with a magnet tool once I got the steering wheel off.
putting a caddy wheel in my tahoe, thanks man! this helped a lot
I have thought of doing the exact same thing in my silverado lol, thank you for watching, best of luck!
Damn I’m gonna buy a replacement for mine now that I know I can do the swap myself, thanks
Best of luck!! Ebay or a local pick n pull typically have some for cheap!
Thanks
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! for the upload. A little knowledge can help so much!
Very glad it helped out! Best of luck on your project.
SAVED ME AN ADDITIONAL $200 FOR INSTALLMENT. THANKS
Hey brother just btw I think 13/16 is closer to 21mm. Great helpful video !!
Nice catch! Thank you for watching!
THANK my FRIEND
Thanks for watching, hope it helped!
Good Job. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Thanks, you saved me.
Heck ya man, glad it helped.
Everything went well but the truck won’t start now, it acts like it wants to start but doesn’t. Did I mess up some sort of anti theft mechanism? I have a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe.
Hmm I haven't run into that scenario yet. Did you unhook the battery when you swapped the wheels? All I can think of is maybe when you pulled the old wheel off it pulled on a wire, or an ignition fuse blew, or if you somehow tripped a code and it thinks the airbag has deployed already and it's like a safety thing....is there a check engine light on or anything?
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER Sorry for the late reply. I'm not really sure how I fixed it but I did. I had unhooked the battery so I did the whole process again and it is fine. I had walked away for a couple hours so maybe it reset.
@@keithdodson7223 Awesome man, glad to hear that it's working for ya.
Hi, just picked me up a classic Silverado 07 with the steering wheel not centering correctly to the wheels, could I take the steering wheel of and just align it that way or is there something that forces it to go in a specific way?
You should be able to straighten your wheels then remove the steering wheel and reattach it straight/centered to match if that's what your asking. Good luck, congrats on the "new" Silverado!
Where did you order this steering wheel from because I'll try to look everywhere I can't find one for mines is a 04 Chevy Tahoe LT they keep showing me still will cover not the actual steering wheel... 👀
Thank you for watching. I got mine from the suburban I took my motor from, but if I needed another I would grab one from a pick and pull junkyard or they have them available on ebaymotors. Good luck!
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER ok thank you
Will someone tell me how to replace the steering wheel control buttons on a 2005 Hummer H2 please?
Not sure, haven't worked on one. I'd think it'd be easier to just buy a new steering wheel at a pick n pull.
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER that is an option. Who performed a half-ass repair by super gluing the damaged connector and leads back together to plug inside the back of the bottom left steering wheel buttons. I had to disconnect the battery, remove the airbag, remove the horn button spring, and remove the torx bit bolts which were holding brackets in order to give me slack from the tight short wiring harness to have enough room to work. All of the buttons on the steering wheel are working except for they do not illuminate. When I replace the buttons for ones that illuminate I splice repair the damaged wire leads and terminal connector. If that doesn't work I'll buy you steering wheel off eBay minus the airbag with one that has good fully working buttons and wiring.
Edit, not Who, I. I'm using an inaccurate voice to text program. Lol
realistically if my airbag was deployed years ago, the wheel should be easier to take off?
It might be a little easier, it would be the same process though, make sure your battery is disconnected! Best of luck!
Awesome video
Thank you!
So my steering wheel has too much play. I've replaced entire front end. The t25 bolts won't stay tight. Would you say I need to replace steering wheel? I replaced gear box as well. I can't find the name of what to fix. Please help 🙏
Hmm lots of unknowns with you replacing everything, did you get a new steering coupler (rag joint)? That can give you some play if it's old & worn or torn up.
Chevrolet cruze 08 steering wheel will apply to a silverado 00 ?
You know that is a good question, honestly I don't know. I just googled a pic and it's a cool looking steering wheel. Let me know if it works please!
U did say 7/8 right if i don't have a 21 milli?
You can give that a try, it's not gonna fit perfect as it will be slightly larger, but you could probably get it done, if you start marring up the nut though stop and just get the right size (that's how I build my tool collection one project at a time lol). I'd also maybe try a 9/16 socket if you have one that size. Best of luck on your project!
i like u sir ❤
Thank you for watching!
I mean steering wheel on GMC SAFARI 2008 MODEL
Thank you for watching, I am not quite sure what you are asking though.
My steering wheel was stuckkk
I feel ya, you could see me struggling with mine too, they just get "time welded" on there, hope you got it swapped out how you wanted!
