I did this and they worked. The bottom left one was the hardest. The others came out pretty easy, those tools are the trick.

Just replaced mine last night. I had to swap them this way as I am embarrassed to say this, but I couldn’t get the airbag clips apart. I had every intention of taking the steering wheel off and just doing it the right way but I didn’t want to break those air bag retention clips and cause a bigger problem. Twenty year old clips tend to not be very forgiving if they have never been apart before. And yeah, the bottom left is the pain in the ass as there is next to no give in the wire harness. Probably spent 20 mins on it alone. Top two were done in 10 minutes combined. I already had the pick tools, got them free at HF, ITC member. Got the SWC buttons off of Amazon, along with a couple other switches and parts. Truck looks a lot better now without the peeling buttons.

There should be a wiring harness at the bottom of the steering collum that you can pull slack to those wires. Sometimes it has wire ties or taped to other wires just snip the holder and easily pull the wires that feeds the buttons on the steering wheel.
I’m assuming you’re talking about under the dash on the steering column??

Yeah the little pick hook tools are a must for this job just became becareful cause if you touch the wire with the metal hook u will blow the fuse under the dash
Can you wrap electrical tape around the pick so it doesn't blow a fuse?
I'm sure u could but its always a good thing to just unhook the battery just in case
Could you please tell me if you can put a steering wheel with controls in place of one that does not?
Yes is possible but very expensive and you would need a whole new harness and the dealer to flash the system. It can me don't but it will cost an arm and a leg plus a ton of time

My steering wheel controls work but none of them light up, they’re still the old original ones, do you think some new ones will solve the issue? Maybe a fuse idk
Yeah could be a fuse. I have a video on that also in my videos

Good haven't had an issue since I put these in

Yeah its a escalade cluster
I installed new ones they are not working and don't light up any ideas what might be wrong
So when you push the button. It won't turn through radio up or down ect?

@@coryc3224 did u touch any of the metal with the hooks? Could of blown a fuse if they were all working before. Did u disconnect the batteries before u did this job?
The old ones stop working and that's why I replaced them

If thr buttons work but the light doesn't. I have a video on where the fuse is at for that under the dash. Mine went out too and I found that fuse and fixed it and now they light up
@@rikkidiesel i think they got old and burned out (Trailblazer) & a power surge killed the LEDs (Envoy)
@bandittweintraub try getting new switch's. If the buttons work like Turning the radio up and down but don't light up check the fuse
