Thank you for the tips!!! I’ve always felt like the only one struggling with thin curly hair - I’m glad I’m not the only one. Your hair gives me hope that I can revive my routine and make my hair cute again! You have beautiful curls! I love how you’ve accepted the type of curls you have and aren’t trying to make them something they’re not.
Having fine low-density curly hair it's the ultimate beauty struggle. I have tons of products sitting unused in my cabinet because everything seems to make my hair heavy or dirty, even when using the smallest amounts. I have reached the point of no applying any styling product and leaving my hair "breath" with just a little bit of serum after washing and conditioning. No curl cream, no mousse, no gel... Nothing!
I had to use all mines, I still have bottles from 3 years ago, because I bought stuffs like crazy and I did not know that my hair easily weighs down haha, plus I did the co-wash and non-sulfate method, dear lord! my scalp was burning and itching during months, and with the gels I got dandruff. Now I just limit to 1 product and that's it, no mouuse, no gel.
I have a ton of products that didn't work as well. I feel like most brands assume if you have curly hair then heavy butters and oils are good. Or coconut oil! My skin and hair hate coconut oil. It's in too many products!
@@valbakke yes very true. My hair hates products with Shea Butters in it. So the Shea Moisture line is out for me. I do better with a light leave-in, mousse', and flaxseed gel.
I noticed how my hair looks thinner when I use the Denman brush to define my curls. Last wash day I used my brush to distribute my leave in and then broke up the clumps with my fingers. It worked really well for me.
So much info! Thanks Gena. I have such fine hair that it is very difficult to deal with. The last haircut I got I asked for a blunt bob. The stylist really did not want to do that. She was very resistant, but after years of my hair looking even more stringy layers, I finally decided for a blunt cut. It looks so much better.
Girl, you just sum up my 9 years of curly hair studying. This video is AMAZING. Even my hair being a 2c/3a, your video totally suits it. Congratz!!! I hope more thin curlies watch this and stop buying the wrong products and start to getting to know better proper hair without comparing it to others 🤍
Oh my god thank you so much for explaining the difference between fine and low density and how they aren’t the same. It drives me crazy I can never find videos on actual fine hair they’re all just low density thick hair. I’m a hair stylist trying to figure out my fine low density curls. I had dreadlocks for 7 years and just took them out. I will be subbing I love you 😍🙌🏻
Wow where have I been that I’m just seeing your page? In my teen yrs I had a head full of hair but as I got older my hair density went down. I’m so glad I have found this page. Thank you.
Great tips! Its very refreshing to see people celebrate their natural texture. One of the toughest struggles is finding a stylist who understands the complexity of textured hair. There is a great need, for more textured hair education, prior to licensing.
I've heard alot about Innersense, and I've researched but they are so expensive. I work 2 and 3 jobs to make ends meet, and I was wondering if you have a video about more affordable curly products for fine, thin, curly hair that really work that will help with dry scalp and frizz control that really do work.
I tried Innersence and even though their product says for fine hair it weighs it down. I use their conditioner but not on my roots because it weighs my hair down. I have a full bottle after 3years bc I only use a pea size pump.I like their leave in though and a dry foam shampoo.
I can recommend something that works really well for me. It’s the Got2B Be Twisted Air Dry Curl Foam. I can get it for $4.99 on Target’s website, or for about $6 a can on eBay (I bought a lot of 6 cans for $32 not too long ago). This mousse leaves me with load of gorgeous waves and volume , it’s light with no butters or oils in it but it holds so well and keeps curls/waves really defined! I do recommend layering it over a smidgen of leave in or a wave defining cream of your hair is dry or damaged, or else it can be a bit drying since it doesn’t have oils or butters in it.
wow i feel so not alone about my fine curly hair, i thought i wouldn’t ever be able to take care of it since products can be super heavy. you give me hope! thank you for this video !
Thank You so much for the video! I've spent so much time watching different videos, looking for someone with hair similar to minę and useful tips! You video has helped me understand the type of my hair and how not to overweigh it ! I am looking forward to watching your other videos 😄
Can’t wait! I’m still experimenting but get closer to my customised holy grail product list thanks to you and in the long run will be saving money and time! You look so pretty and love your curls ! Are you of Italian ethnicity? I’m half italian but on my mum’s side it’s scots /irish. Our curl type is often found in Eire or Italy ( Mediterranean) I’m just curious? Also I think I might get the hair strand test - I’m curious! 🤔❤️
I really enjoyed watching your video. It has taken me my whole life, (I am 57) to find someone with my hair type! My hair is just underneath my bra strap but I think I still have less hair than you 😀 Maybe my texture is fine as oppose to yours, hence being so "little". Not even enough to do layers as I got older. No more styling upside down for me. Thanks for that tip, and all the other useful ones 🥰
I noticed so many CG influencers call their hair fine or low-density, but when I compare their hair to mine, it seems like they have a lot more to work with. If I gather all my hair, my ponytail is only as thick as my finger and my hair gets extremely tangled and difficult to work with when soaking wet, so many of the styling tips out there do not work for me. Water is just too heavy for my hair.
They have such thick hair calling it thin that idk what my hair is anymore it makes me feel insecure. I can only achieve volume if I sacrifice definition but those girls can have both.
Yes 100 % best tip Gena, I Love damp styling upright so much for volume 💚💛. I am also medium to course hair and low density. I love creams, and my hair loves heavy products. These products are formulated for my hairs texture. I help with the look of my hair density like you with damp styling. If I use light products formulated for fine hair textures my hair is fluffy, dry, less defined and just doesn't last. It took some time but I have been learning my hairs and the uniqueness that they are lol.
Ah I wish I'd found u and these videos a couple of months ago when I started accepting my curls. Would have saves a lot of $$. U have the same hair as I do and now I know I need a cut and some lighter products. THANK YOU♥
This is my first time to watch your videos and I am very impressed. You explain everything so well. I subscribed I look forward to watching your other videos.
Love your channel and appreciate someone with similar hair as it's rare online considering so many have the kinkier course dry curls with their own set of issues as well no doubt. I've had fine but alot of it hair most of my life and never knew low density was a thing. Exact same story as you, in teens I had a much tighter curl and thicker hair, pure comedy with all the junk food and etc in those days yet in my late 20s as well eating super clean and very healthy lifestyle for years it got thinner and more loose in a wave/curl like yours. Nice to hear I'm not alone as I was always baffled by this simply per age never made sense to me. Se la vie!
ive struugled for years with my thin, low density hair. normal shampoo is way too harsh, cleansing conditioners too heavy and left residue and my curls were almost gone and messy . i was at my wits end, nothing seemed to work. my hair ended up poofy, frizzy , dry, thin and fly away not matter what i did…… until i saw a post online saying that when you apply conditioner you should do it while hair is soaking wet. so iwith my head down so that products went on to underside of my hair i cleansed with cleansing conditioner (normal shamppoi just too harsh), then applied conditioner when really soaking wet and really squeezed the water and conditioner in to my hair. i then rinsed it off and added some castor oil hair product squeezed in to the ends. it looked awful while drying , took ages to dry but once dry it was like different hair, moist , defined bouncy neat curls , no frizz and it looked thick. it was the way i was washing it in the shower rather than the curly hair products.
Thank you very much this was a very informative video. we almost have the same type of hair. I recently went natural and curly so your videos are a big help for my transition ....thank you
Hi Gena Marie.. I love your name! 😍 I am Amy-Marie.. I have a hyphen. Anyway, we have very similar hair. I have really enjoyed watching you and your videos. Ty so much for making such phenomenal videos. I look forward to your new ones but for now I’m plugging away at all your fantastic videos and tips!! 💖☺️💞🥰
so i’m a natural blonde which means i have very fine hair but it’s also medium-high density but the ends are bleached because i used to do fashion colors a lot so basically it’s extremely difficult because if i use too much moisture my hair gets very weighed down but if i use too little it gets very dry and frizzy
My curly hair is so thin it goes pin straight when water runs through it. See how you can see her curls when the waters running down... ye mine just looks like straight hair....
I read in a previous post of yours that you recommended long layers. It was in the video/post to avoid triangle hair, but I see here you recommended avoiding layers completely. What is your final stance? I'm gonna get a cut soon and I'm at a loss of what to ask for TT
All of these things that you are saying are true. You have just a little bit more hair than I do but everything that you have said I do and it does work.:)

Sometimes I find people with the low-density/fine mix but they have higher-porosity and those products still aren't friends with my hair. Thanks so much!!
I was styling upside down and within an hour the back of my crown always looked like I had been laying on it all day. If I diffuse upright I do not have that problem.
I just came across your channel..and I'm obsessed. I've finally found someone to help with my super thin hair 😩 but question...I looked into mymanebio and they're closing 😩 is there another thing similar ?
My hair is very thin and my churla just kind of straighten/fallout/elongate throughout the day and I am really starting to give up on it. It used to be curlier/stay curly and I’ve tried so many things. Does anyone have tips? Edit: stopped using heat on it since 2015 (maybe three times a year).
I’m trying to avoid tearing my very fine hair and grow a lot more length and since I started using modern shampoos again my hair has been getting frizzyer and more frizzy.
I have low density hair, when I wash and condition my hair, it just seem to disappear into thinness. I am a 3A/3B hair and I struggle to get volume into my hair. If I am not careful and try too hard, I would end up with a hair full of frizz , instead of gaining some volume.
My hair is tearing because I don’t have access to the herbs for my wonderful and inexpensive, homemade formula I used to make. It’s so soothing and easy to use! I miss it very much.
I have been looking for a curl-friendly absorbent towel drape for the shoulders for wet curly styling. Can you specify if the shoulder towel you use in this video is the RePear towel…or is there a product you can recommend? Thank you!
Thank you for this I totally relate to everything! My main problem is finding a curly hair hairdresser? Would you ever recommend letting a normal hairdresser wash and blow dry straight so they can then cut it or any advice here would be appreciated! Not had a haircut for 12 months now really need one.
I have low density fine hair from hair loss due to hypothyroidism. My hair is also bleached from highlights. It’s just below shoulder length, and I just had an inch cut off the ends, she put a few very light layers in it but nothing crazy. I struggle with my curls/waves looking stringy like ramen noodles. I know you said that bigger curls clumps are not good but my 2c spirals don’t want to clump together 😣 I’m thinking it’s maybe due to the damage from the bleach highlights, my sections underneath have lovely spirals and bigger clumps but on the upper sections it’s a struggle 😥 if anyone has advice I’m all ears, thank you Edited to add - I naturally have 2c waves and some spirals, my damaged areas are 2b.
Great video! How many times per week do you wash your hair? I have low density fine 3b 3c curly hair. I wash my hair 2 times per week but sometimes I wonder if it's too much for my fine hair.
Hi Gena. Thanks for the tips. I am new in this curly gurl world.. started transitioning.. Any recommendations on protein rich deep conditioner. I am also facing a lot of wet frizz, any suggestions on this.. 😘
Hi Gena. Would you recommend the ouidad gel strong hold, red bottle, to thin medium density hair. 2A to 2C pattern? I live on lima Peru where humidity is high?
I struggle so much. Currently I am realizing my hair now no longer likes aloe. It doesn't like glycerin. I am having a hell of a time finding product. I have hair loss on the top front and have to wear most of my hair parted that way to cover it. I show a lot of scalp. I alsp have layers but was always told I need them because all yhe weight is in the bottom and it pulls my roots down. So I don't know what to do.
The opposite of most of these tips :) Opt for strong hold gels and mousse to tame frizz. A good curly haircut and layers can make the world of difference!
Gurl GET YOUR HORMONES CHECKED ASAP!!!!! Losing half your hair in a decade is NOT normal & even if it is hereditary, it's a symptom of a hereditary hormonal issue. Your iodine and iron levels are probably close to non-existent, get your thyroid checked at least immediately! This is actually a really, really serious symptoms. And if anyone watching this is dealing with that much hair loss that quickly that hasn't just given birth to a child, you need to get to a doctor IMMEDIATELY.
Personally, I like an explanation because I need to understand things before shelling out money and/or time on products and/or routines. I appreciate the effort she puts in.

Same here. I was always getting layers, but since I got more blunt cuts my hair looks way more fuller

Great video! How many times per week do you wash your hair? I have low density fine 3b 3c curly hair. I wash my hair 2 times per week but sometimes I wonder if it's too much for my fine hair.
I do about 2x a week. I clarify or shampoo on the weekend and deep condition. Then around wed or thur i will co-wash or use a low-poo.
Thank you so much for responding 💓
I get flash drying from products with aloe.
Hi Gena. Thanks for the tips. I am new in this curly gurl world.. started transitioning.. Any recommendations on protein rich deep conditioner. I am also facing a lot of wet frizz, any suggestions on this.. 😘
I'll have a video up this week on preventing wet frizz!
Here is a deep condition with protein from Shea Moisture: rstyle.me/+R1_0_8WRu8UKOVTDw23L_g
Waiting for the video.. Thanks 😊
Do you guys recommend shea moisture products for fine curly hair? If yes, which line?
blue one
Hi Gena. Would you recommend the ouidad gel strong hold, red bottle, to thin medium density hair. 2A to 2C pattern? I live on lima Peru where humidity is high?
Medium porosity
Yes, if you like strong hold! It holds up the best in humidity.
heyo! Do you list any references for your information? Thank you :)
how long should i keep the deep conditioner in my hair before i wash it?
Depends on the product, so good to read the label. Usually 15-30 min max.
Can you recommend a clarifying shampoo or treatment?
Sure! These are my favs.

i shampoo my hair every 4 days once. if not it starts to stink and weigh down
Super helpful
I used olaplex 3 I didn’t see that kind of a difference I’m so frustrated with my hair
Are you sure you aren't medium density?
So I measured my ponytail and it says 8 centimeters, in inches its 3,15.. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Medium density :)
I have been using Hair Thickness Maximizer fibers (Amazon) to cover my scalp/thin areas. It is working for me.
If you have dry hair do you still need to clarify?
Yes if you use products that buildup
I can't find the video on your hair analysis. I ordered one a while back I have already sent in my sample but I'm still waiting for my results.
Whoops, I forgot to link it in the description. Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/-uk96ErgSM4/v-deo.html
Thanks
My curls become sticky the next day after applying product
lmao i didnt know i had high density hair! i always thought it was thin
I hv opposite hair I mean high volume thick hair. What can I do to hv low volume. because it is very heavy and unmanaged. Please suggest something
The opposite of most of these tips :) Opt for strong hold gels and mousse to tame frizz. A good curly haircut and layers can make the world of difference!
@@GenaMarie hair cut is not advisable because they fly more and cannot clip them
Ask a professional hairdresser for the best advice
You're so beautiful 🥺 ❤
My hair is low density, fine and wavy😭
Gurl GET YOUR HORMONES CHECKED ASAP!!!!! Losing half your hair in a decade is NOT normal & even if it is hereditary, it's a symptom of a hereditary hormonal issue. Your iodine and iron levels are probably close to non-existent, get your thyroid checked at least immediately! This is actually a really, really serious symptoms. And if anyone watching this is dealing with that much hair loss that quickly that hasn't just given birth to a child, you need to get to a doctor IMMEDIATELY.
I have think wavy curly hair
i want thick curly hair🙁no wonder , ima stop getting layers😂
I’m from United Kingdom
wow i really thought oils were good for my type of hair
They’re beneficial at certain times for all. But for fine hair can weight it down
Your knowledge is very deep and clear i like it so i watched all your vedios. But you tend to say same facts in all of ur vedios over and over again.
She is talking too much rather showing the methods
Personally, I like an explanation because I need to understand things before shelling out money and/or time on products and/or routines. I appreciate the effort she puts in.
