Agreed! Vegan leather should be termed plant base NOT PU leather which smells of petroleum. They should make it a law to name it properly. Don’t use faux leather, but put PU leather or plant-based leather like made from cactus or mango skin.

Wash leather with proper soap made from rendered beef tallow, and reapply this lanolin + wax mix as needed. If you want to understand how durable leather is, check out equestrian gear and electrician gear (their favored holsters are leather because leather is durable and can be cleaned and waterproofed many times).

It’s fairly general knowledge that words that end in -ette are not really what they pretend to be. Ex. A kitchenette is not a real full kitchen. A Rockette is sadly not a rock. A Corvette is not associated with corvée. Personally I think that terms like leatherette and vegan leather are misleading. Just call it what it is. In the case of leatherette, call it plastic. Plus companies will still describe something as leather and then list 100% PU or whatever in tiny print hidden in the description.
