  • Four weeks ago with the help of hubby we moved 8 self wicking tubs to another location , north side of the green house, in preparation for building two large new garden beds. The self wicking tubs I made myself about 4 years ago and will be used to grow herbs in as I’ve found them too small to grow larger vegetables like tomatoes, zucchini & cucumber in successfully without feeding them constantly with a liquid fertilizer & paying attention to the soil which I tend not to do. They perform well with herbs so I’ll keep them for that. They are good for keeping water up to the plants during the hotter months which was useful as we can get very hot dry days here during summer… 35-40C days!!!
I did contemplate on whether to install a drip irrigation system to the new garden beds but I’m not so sure I want to spend that sort of money on them. It’s easy for me to water every morning as I do my morning chores and besides I enjoy watering my vegetable patch, it gives me time to appreciate the beauty of the garden & check in on how the veggies are going.
